First Certificate in English (FCE.) (UCLES) Third level of the Cambridge Main Suite Exams (Upper intermediate Level) This course is for adult students who are of an upper intermediate to advanced level. They now wish to focus on increasing their accuracy and general competence in English and to prepare for an externally validated examination the Cambridge First Certificate in English. The main aims of these courses are to develop and practise the language and skills necessary to do well in the First Certificate in English examination. The courses include work on the essential skills of English - reading, writing, listening and speaking. They contain work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Students will: learn and use new vocabulary especially phrasal verbs and transformation improve fluency and accuracy in speaking. By the end of the course they should feel confident about their pronunciation and be able to communicate effectively in situations reflected in the oral component of the examination develop listening skills so that they can understand extended spoken texts and manage the variety of tasks required in the examination read and respond to different text types improve accuracy in writing. By the end of the course they should be able to write a variety of clear and accurate texts required by the examination thoroughly revise areas of grammar including tenses, conditionals, passives, gerund and infinitive structures and patterns in English develop examination skills and strategies

Certificate of Advanced English (CAE), (UCLES) Fourth Stage of the Cambridge Main Suite Exams This course is designed to prepare students for the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, which is held in June and December each year. A qualification at CAE level is recognised by most universities in the UK as an appropriate language qualification for overseas students. It can also be used as evidence for employers and educational establishments that students have attained The main aim of this course is to develop the necessary skills to pass and do well in the Certificate in Advanced English test. The course includes work on the five papers of the CAE exam. Participants will learn: how to write both formal and informal transactional letters with regard to register and appropriate content how to write other genres such as articles, leaflets, reports, narratives, descriptive and opinion essays how to read and interpret a variety of text types and to complete various tasks such as matching, completing gaps and multiple choice questions grammar: modals; conditionals; review of all tenses; reported speech; future tenses; wishes; complex clauses and inversion in order to prepare students for the Use of English paper vocabulary: phrasal verbs; word formation; metaphorical language; forceful language how to perform well in the sections of the oral test how to deal with the sections of the listening paper exam strategies through exam practice tests

It can also be used as evidence for employers and educational establishments that students have attained a standard of English approaching native speaker level. Participants will learn: grammar: complex clauses; aspect; modals; emphasis; variants of common patterns discursive essays; descriptive genre; awareness of style and formality reading, summarising and analysing long texts; appreciating style vocabulary: phrasal verbs; idioms and expressions not covered at other levels how to perform well in the sections of the oral test how to deal with the sections of the listening paper

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (UCLES) Preparation for IELTS: in either Academic or General Training. Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking This course is designed to prepare students for the General Training version of the IELTS test. IELTS is often required for those who intend to take a vocational course and for emigration purposes to Australia, New Zealand or Canada. The main aim of this course is to orientate participants to the expectations of the test and to give intensive practice in the skills required to perform well in each paper. The course includes work on the four papers of the IELTS test. how to write letters accurately and appropriately how to plan, organise and write an opinion essay how to read and interpret a variety of text types at speed and complete various tasks such as matching, completing notes and multiple-choice questions how to perform well in the sections of the speaking test including giving a short talk how to deal with the sections of the listening paper including the short lecture

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) For Academic Purposes DURATION Twice a week for ten weeks This course is for students who are already competent users of English. They wish to develop their command of English in a more academic context. General English Beginner Elementary Pre-Intermediate Intermediate Upper-Intermediate Advanced Beginners Learn and use simple everyday vocabulary, Learn basic English grammar, Develop confidence in speaking and pronunciation, Improve reading skills, Become better able to write correct English and find mistakes, Revise basic grammar covered at lower levels and then add new, more complex patterns and tenses, Develop a broad range of English vocabulary and vocabulary learning strategies. Intermediate Students at this level can communicate in basic everyday situations. They wish to expand their vocabulary and develop a greater knowledge of essential grammar so they can communicate with more confidence. The main aims of these courses are to ensure that students get a firm understanding of basic tenses, increase their vocabulary and develop skills and language for dealing with everyday situations. The courses include work on the essential skills of English - reading, writing, listening and speaking. They contain work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Students will: learn and use a wider range of vocabulary learn basic English grammar, and patterns and tenses that are more complicated develop confidence in speaking and pronunciation improve reading skills become better at understanding English spoken by native speakers become better able to write correct English and find mistakes become more confident in using English in a wide range of everyday situations

Upper Intermediate Students at this level are already competent users of English in everyday situations. They wish to further improve their command of their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in general contexts. The main aims of these courses are to revise and build on existing English language skills and to improve both accuracy and fluency in the Language. The courses include work on the essential skills of English - reading, writing, listening and speaking. They also contain work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation and follow a task-based approach. Students will: learn to build vocabulary in an organised way improve fluency and accuracy in speaking through a task-based approach. By the end of the course they should feel confident about their pronunciation and be able to communicate effectively in many situations develop listening skills so that they can understand extended spoken texts improve accuracy in writing. By the end of the course they should have developed an awareness of a variety of genres improve grammatical accuracy, especially with modals, complex clauses, aspect and tense, hypothesising and reporting

Advanced This course is a comprehensive English Language course, which encourages students to analyse the systems of English in use, and to expose them to a variety of challenging and interesting listening and reading activities. This course will stimulate the students into giving their own opinions and participating in discussions and role-plays. This is a course with an extensive practice of the four language skills. Grammar, vocabulary and study skills are also key features. These courses are structured to improve language skills in the following areas: Develop your accuracy and range of complex grammar structures. Improve your speaking skills in terms of fluency and pronunciation. Develop your awareness and competence when reading and writing in a variety of genres. Extend your vocabulary in a range of themes.

Conversation Skills -Pre-intermediate -Intermediate These courses are for adult learners who feel the need to develop more confidence and fluency in their speaking and who want to spend extra time on improving their speaking skills in English. This course aims to improve students' communication skills and to increase their confidence and fluency in speaking. Courses are offered at the following levels: -Pre-intermediate -Intermediate The Pre-intermediate, Intermediate courses will include: free conversation and discussion practicing and writing dialogues pronunciation practice key expressions for conversation a formal talk to a group of classmates solving a mystery by sharing information drama In this course, students will be expected to give their opinions, and comment on the opinions of others. They are also expected to give a short presentation to the class.
