THURSDAY 8:30-10:00AM General Session () Holding Fast to Christ Who Holds Fast to You (Hebrews 4:14-16) We are called to hold fast (cling) to our profession in Christ at all times including challenging and discouraging times by trusting that He holds us fast to Himself through His priestly sacrifice, heavenly intercession, divine person, and high priestly sympathy. Because Christ meets all our needs and holds us fast to Himself, we may come freely to God s throne to find daily mercy and grace to help us in every need. Our perfect, sinless, God-man High Priest is more than sufficient to meet all our needs personally and in our families! 10:30-11:30AM Get Real! Are you convinced that every homeschooling family except yours is great? Do you believe the lie that others are more organized, better prepared, have smarter kids, are wiser parents, and have a child in the national spelling bee? Well, let me set the record straight...that s not the way it is! The truth is most moms feel inadequate. Homeschooling moms fear that they re letting their kids down, and not only in their education. They feel like their house is out of control, their children are beasts, and the sizzle has left their marriages. Join us as we unleash the power in being REAL. You ll never be the same again. Barbara West New to Homeschooling Track, Part 1 of 4 See page 8 for description. This track requires attendees to RSVP. Ballistic Homeschooling Find out why Thomas Jefferson wrote at a standing desk, how a whiteboard can turn on a light bulb, and why your son does the things he does. Boys and girls really do learn differently! Make school more fun for everyone and equip your boy with the learning he needs for manhood. Katherine Dang The Biblical Origin, Purpose, and Principles of Each and Every Subject In the source, origin, and first principles of each subject taught and learned are the foundation, life, intent, and reason of education. Whether teaching botany, history, or literature, come discover these defining principles and how they can transform your child s education. Equipped to Love Everyone knows they ought to love others, but not everyone knows how. The greatest hindrance to building a legacy of God s love is the spirit of idolatry. Idolatry is the world s counterfeit to God s kind of love. In this message, Norm gives practical insight into one of the most challenging goals of families loving relationships. Marriages and parent/child relationships may be healed and strengthened as a result of these truths. Dr. Heath Lambert Help and Hope: Christians and Counseling Did you know that biblical counseling is actually discipleship? The Bible calls every Christian to engage in the work of counseling, and this session will show you where to begin. Learn from an overview of the different Christian approaches to counseling, and find out how biblical counseling is different than integrative counseling. Kevin Swanson Catching the Vision for Homeschooling Through High School...and Beyond Some homeschool parents lack confidence and lose steam when their children reach high school. Can the homeschool high school be as successful as or better than a typical classroom education? Here Kevin Swanson outlines the basic constituents of a successful homeschool high school, encouraging parents to build on the foundation already laid. He focuses parents on their child s calling, and makes an important distinction between two tracks, the corporate track and the entrepreneurial track, pointing out the strong points and weak points of each. Wise planning when your child is 12 or 13 years old is critical for success in those teen years. 24

HOMESCHOOLING FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP CURRICULUM FAIR WORLDVIEW FELLOWSHIP ENCOURAGEMENT RockyMountainHomeschoolConference.com THURSDAY Vendor G3 Shari McMinn What is the Homeschool Guidebook and Why is it an Essential Resource for Homeschooling in Colorado Join project editor Shari McMinn in an informative overview of the content and purpose of this new CHEC resource. A must attend for newbie and veteran home educators alike. Homeschooling a Resistant Child: Diagnosis and Strategies Are daily battles over academics with one or more resistant children wearing you out? Often, a child will seem quite agreeable until you try to teach him or her something. Then the body language kicks in, sour expressions emerge, stubbornness sets in, and a general pathetic weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth begin. Chronic resistance to academics means something. We need to get at the root causes in order to turn this daily duel into progressive energy that will result in a pleasant lifetime of eagerness to learn. There are basically nine reasons for academic resistance, and if you can successfully target which one you re dealing with, you ll be able to achieve some pretty wonderful results. You ll have the joy of seeing the resistance melt away. 1:00-2:00PM Bringing the Gospel to our Children The most important message that you will ever communicate to your children is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Learn the importance of their need for the Gospel, the message of the Gospel with its eight major doctrines, the best means for communicating the Gospel, and practical applications of the Gospel to their lives and your own. Jenny Galanek New to Homeschooling Track, Part 2 of 4 See page 8 for description. This track requires attendees to RSVP. Passing the Baton It makes no sense to pour our lives into homeschooling only to stumble at the finish line. We ve got to pass the baton of Christian adulthood to our children and it can t happen overnight. Hal and Melanie talk about this critical time in our children s lives and how to transition from the benevolent dictator our 11-year-old needs to the trusted advisor of our adult children. Let s all finish well and prepare our sons and daughters to be servants of the Most High! Mountain Building: Geological Apologetics There is more to building a solid worldview than having a right catechism of creation. Our culture is on the move to destroy biblical faith. This is no more apparent than in the treatment of the book of Genesis. Part of the solution for our kids is in knowing what the Bible says and how it explains the physical earth around them. Learn about evidence for the Flood and the truth of the Bible with every step you take! I Will Be With You: The Most Powerful Words You Can Speak No words provide more hope to any child (young or old) than the most powerful words God has spoken to mankind, I will be with you and never leave you. You ll be encouraged as you see the heart of God in the Scriptures and learn how you can instill hope in the hearts of your children and spouse. The Four Language Arts When asked, What are the language arts? people may respond by listing numerous subjects: spelling, phonics, grammar, penmanship, copying, dictation, narration, and composition. But actually it s much simpler! No matter your family s curriculum style, there are really only four core language arts: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Attending well to the first two makes teaching the latter two so much easier. Come prepared to have your educational paradigm adjusted, your load lightened, and your commitment to excellence renewed as you focus on the most important things in the limited time you have. Developing a Plan for High School: Sample Four-Year Plans How do you plan a program for your high school homeschooler? What subjects do you teach and when? Do you follow a basic high school plan, a general college prep plan, or a rigorous college prep plan? How do you evaluate credits? Determine grades for a course? What about the need for a transcript and diploma? If you are just beginning to think about homeschooling during the high school years, this seminar will help you organize your thoughts and begin laying the groundwork for a viable four-year plan. THURSDAY Twelve Optimal Ways to Trigger the Brain With Any Subject Matter Discover the fastest route and the shortest distance for mastering new information. Innovative, jaw-dropping methods useful for any home educator. Tips that even teachers wish they had learned in their education majors, but didn t. Come learn simple teacher secrets gained only by years and years of experience in the trenches with children who don t get it. Just watch you ll be so fired up about gaining this bag of tricks, you ll start using them tomorrow! 2:15-3:15PM Raising Real Men In spite of what the culture is telling us, boys and girls are different. Have you ever had a war break out in the middle of a play date or had a single math lesson take three hours? Then, you re probably raising boys! If the world seems intent on gender-bending and forcing our sons into a feminized mold, Hal and Melanie, parents of six boys, explain the biblical way out and a better way to turn wild little dirt-lovers into strong Christian men! New to Homeschooling Track, Part 3 of 4 See page 8 for description. This track requires attendees to RSVP. What to Do When Your Plan Doesn t Go According to Plan We like things nice and neat, orderly, and with a predictable outcome, but most of the time OUR plans don t come together as we hoped. Instead, our plans often fall apart, disintegrate right before our eyes, and leave us dumbfounded and stunned. How many homeschooling parents have been sold a bullet-proof plan, only to look back a year (or five years) later with tears in their eyes because the plan didn t come together? Join Todd as he takes an honest and humorous look at plans, why they fall apart, and what to do when they have. Katherine Dang Home: The First Divine Sphere of Government The strength of a nation lies in the strength of its families, for it is God who has established it to be so. Reasoning from the Scriptures, one sees clearly how all the good and evil existing in nations and governments begins in the home. The Profound Influence of Music on Life Music has become such an ever-present influence in our daily lives that we seldom stop to consider what effect it has on us. But we must. As we have changed over the last 100 years from being music makers to music consumers, we have gradually lost control over, and even awareness of, our auditory environment. In what way is music beneficial to our bodies and minds? In what circumstances can it actually be harmful? Solid scientific research provides some astounding answers to such questions indeed, facts that must not be ignored by today s parents and children. Dr. Heath Lambert The Bible and Anxiety The Bible has real and practical things to say about anxiety. This session will examine anxiety from a biblical perspective and offer practical ways people can overcome this problem. High School Transcript Clinic: Practical Help and Tips Creating a high school transcript is easy yet a vital part of your child s high school records. In this interactive, practical seminar you ll create a transcript that can be used as a pattern when designing your own. We ll guide you through transcript essentials, evaluation of credit, grading guidelines and scales, and calculation of grade point averages (GPA s). In addition, you ll receive sample transcripts depicting other formats for you to consider. Biblical Principles of Communication for the Family Loving God and loving each other are what make up relationships, and relationships should be built on edifying communication. No one can build us up, or tear us down, more than those that we love the most. In this workshop, we will examine how to hear and understand each other as a family in a safe place so that we can build each other up. 26

HOMESCHOOLING FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP CURRICULUM FAIR WORLDVIEW FELLOWSHIP ENCOURAGEMENT RockyMountainHomeschoolConference.com THURSDAY 3:30-4:30PM mined by few. In this talk, we will learn how good biographies push us toward godliness and their importance in the life of every Christian family. The Two Most Common Homeschooling Academic Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them A growing number of homeschoolers are facing one or the other of two extremes. Many are not schooling at all unschooling letting lots of other things take priority not tending to business finding it difficult to be disciplined in the area of academics. On the other end are some who are making academics their god forcing their children to study works by ungodly individuals (just because they re in vogue) and obsessing about achievement and traditional formal college routes not caring if these academics are Christian-based or not. The objective of this workshop is to help you find your balance and how to avoid the two major pitfalls of home education. Come learn how to know if you re in academic idolatry or falling short in the fundamentals of home education. Find out what the normal pursuit of general knowledge is NOT good for and examine the marks of a truly biblical education. Stephen Craig New to Homeschooling Track, Part 4 of 4 See page 8 for description. This track requires attendees to RSVP. Overcoming Obstacles to Competence in Composition Paradoxically, writing is one of the most important academic skills a student must acquire, while at the same time being one of the most complex of all human brain functions. For children who struggle with language and written expression, breaking that complexity into the smallest possible steps is absolutely vital in order to avoid overwhelming them and is necessary to make meaningful progress. In this very practical workshop, Andrew will lead you through the first steps of this process while explaining exactly how it can be adjusted for students of any age or aptitude even those who are still learning to form letters and spell basic words. Hugh Fitzpatrick Why Your Children Should Read Christian Biographies and Why You Should Too We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, and an important task of the Christian life is to become acquainted with these witnesses. Christian biographies are a gold mine available to all home educators but What s a Mom to Do with Teenage Sons? Blossoming young men can be very challenging to a mother. What s a mom to do with her son s seeming disrespect? How should she correct him? Does there come a time when a mom can no longer tell her son what to do? Wives have similar questions about relating to their husbands. What s a mom or wife to do? Norm provides answers to these questions and more. Michael Farris Constitutional Literacy: It s for You and Your Children Michael Farris discusses the importance of knowing the content and purpose of the founding documents of our country, and how that can impact our interpretation of issues today. Charting Your Way Through High School for College, Workforce, or Military Preparing your teens for their post-graduation goals requires advance planning. This seminar provides a time line and checklist to ensure that important items are not overlooked! For parents of college-bound teens, discover tips for the application and financial aid process. For parents of teens headed directly into the workforce, explore job hunting and workplace skills. For parents of teens interested in a military career, learn about the military s homeschool enlistment policy and tips for applying to the service academies. Math You Understand With a unique and humorous approach, Steve demonstrates how to use hands-on manipulatives to illustrate important math concepts such as algebra, place value, exponents, regrouping (carrying and borrowing), double digit multiplication, fractions, and factoring. HOMESCHOOLING FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP CURRICULUM FAIR WORLDVIEW FELLOWSHIP ENCOURAGEMENT RockyMountainHomeschoolConference.com FRIDAY 8:30-10:00AM General Session () Michael Farris Why We Should Have Hope in the Midst of Hard Times We live in daunting times with many challenges before us challenges of cultural pressure, personal loss and pain, and emotional affliction. Yet we serve a God who enables us to overcome. Michael Farris will deliver a message of hope and encouragement for homeschoolers and the body of Christ. 10:30-11:30AM Tearing Down the Walls Wouldn t you love to know how to tear down the walls that divide you and someone you love? In Norm s message you ll learn how to use God s power and the Gospel to tear down those walls that hinder loving relationships. Helping Our Children Discern God s Will This session first answers the question, Why should we seek to know and do God s will for our lives? It then addresses how we can discover God s will, focusing on the role of Scripture, the role of providence, the role of our gifts and desires, the role of others how and when we should seek their counsel, and the role of prayer. Dr. Heath Lambert The Bible, Homosexuality, and Transgenderism: Help and Hope for Families Dealing with Sexual Identity Issues This session will give an overview of the different Christian approaches to homosexuality and argue for a biblical way to help people struggling with same-sex attraction to change. Dr. Lambert s practical and biblical advice will also help Christians understand why gender dysphoria occurs and how we can help people who are struggling with transgenderism. Bridget Mosley Huh? Improve Working Memory So Your Child Can Learn More Easily Researchers tell us working memory is a better predictor of academic success than IQ. In fact, comprehension differences between good and poor readers are largely due to differences in working memory capacity. In math, even simple calculations require a strong working memory. Thankfully, God has wired our children s brains so that, with practice, they can grow this key brain skill. You ll learn fun and easy ways to use games and apps to strengthen your child s working memory so that they can be more successful in all academic areas. The Power of a Focused Mother You can spot the difference in the children of a focused mother a mile off! Today s mothers are distracted by many noble uses of their time. But while she is preoccupied, her children are the silent losers. These losses are deep and irretrievable. This session will show you how to raise your conviction and sharpen your aim, so that your children will end up a cut above the pack. The impact of focused motherhood is huge and blessed. Mom, come to this workshop to see how your influence is greater than you know. A House NOT Divided You ve heard the verses and caught the vision, but what can you do to get your children on your team? Stop the bickering and rivalry and begin making memories! In this idea-packed workshop, Hal and Melanie share how to tear down obstacles and build up family unity in fun, memorable ways. Essential Skills for Successful Teens: Study and Time Management The high school years are a prime opportunity to equip your teens with skills they will need for future success. If your teen is headed to college, the workforce, or the military, they will benefit from study and time management skills. This session provides parents with ideas to incorporate these skills into high school coursework and lists resources to help teens cultivate these essential skills. Let Your Kids Pick Up the Rocks Let s face it, homeschooling can be messy! And to top it off, sometimes our kids are interested in things that don t interest us (and are downright dirty!). Patrick s practical message is an encouragement for those facing this dilemma (all of us!) and gives hope going forward. INFO I 2017 PROGRAM 29

FRIDAY Expo G5 Shari McMinn What is the Homeschool Guidebook and Why is it an Essential Resource for Homeschooling in Colorado Join project editor Shari McMinn in an informative overview of the content and purpose of this new CHEC resource. A must attend for newbie and veteran home educators alike. 1:00-2:00PM Michael Farris The Coming Attack on Homeschooling from the Legal Elites The first and second wave of attacks on homeschooling in the early days were essentially based on lies. You won t succeed academically. We proved them wrong. Your kids won t be socialized. And we proved them wrong again. The third wave is fundamentally different. It accuses: you will teach your kids that Christianity is the only true religion. This attack is true. Michael Farris examines the newest anti-homeschooling strategy of the legal elites, explains how it will impact us today and tomorrow, and outlines a plan of action. Irresistible Parenting A pandemic has struck homeschooling families across the country with full force. Homeschooled children of well-meaning, God-fearing parents have graduated and now hate homeschooling, their parents, and anything to do with God. Some fatalists say, Well, that s the chance you take with children. You do your best and then spin the wheel. Others say, Obviously, there must be a flaw in our teaching model. Still others shrug their shoulders, cross their fingers, and press on. There s a better way. Come be encouraged as Todd explains the reasons for the pandemic and gives you hope with one sure-fire way to get your children to LOVE homeschooling, you, and everything you hold dear. Dr. Heath Lambert Pornography and the Grace to Change This session provides biblical and practical ways to keep our children away from the snare of pornography, as well as instructions to help those who are already trapped in its grip to find freedom. Jason Churchill Ensuring They Know the Reason for Their Hope You ve taught them from their earliest years the truth that God exists and that the Bible is His Word. Yet as our children grow and their minds develop, they begin to ask tough questions like, How do you know that s true? This is natural, for we all seek to know the reason for our hope. Can we give them that reason when they ask? More importantly, is there a way to train them now so that they will always be prepared to have the answers when the tough questions come? This session will prepare you to both give answers now and equip them to give answers in the future. Reaching the Reluctant Writer Many children really do not like to write. Why? This workshop will answer that basic question and teach a specific and successful method of separating the complex process of writing into the smallest possible steps, making it possible for even the most reluctant writer to produce short but complete compositions. Your child will be proud and motivated to write again. Results guaranteed! How to Get Started Having Regular Times of Family Worship After many years of trying, God helped the Demmes make studying God s Word a daily part of their home. In this session Steve relates the ingredients for a doable plan of family worship. He also shares obstacles he wrestled with to lead his family in this crucial area. The College Admission Process: The Homeschooled Student s Guide You are not only your child s teacher, you are also his guidance counselor! Find out how to maneuver through the entire college admissions process, from narrowing down the selection of colleges to filling out college applications, applying for financial aid, and asking the right questions that will help you discern whether your child is spiritually, academically, and emotionally prepared for college. 30

HOMESCHOOLING FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP CURRICULUM FAIR WORLDVIEW FELLOWSHIP ENCOURAGEMENT RockyMountainHomeschoolConference.com FRIDAY Katherine Dang Teenagers or Youth? The teenager is a Frankenstein from the laboratories of modern psychology. The teenage mentality is sustained through the use of the arts, film, entertainment, and literature, and it has subtly permeated into the homes, churches, and educational institutions of America with destructive consequences to the home and family. Returning to the guiding Scriptural principles concerning the education of youth is the antidote to the poison of the teenage syndrome. 2:15-3:15PM Rebuilding Your Educational Paradigm Escaping the conveyor belt approach of institutional education by which most of us were shaped isn t easy, but it has to be done. For many parents, our greatest handicap as teachers is our own education but it need not be so. In this inspiring and empowering session, you will not only come to understand the nature and purpose of today s educational system as it was originally conceived and designed, but you will also see a shining alternative path that develops true thinkers, leaders, and communicators so desperately needed in today s world. Preparing Teens for Christ-Centered Relationships Navigating your teens in their relationships with the opposite sex can be a very blessed and faith-building season if you know how to prepare your teens for Christ-centered relationships. Norm unpacks eight Scriptures that specifically relate to young adults and walking with Christ in guy/girl relationships before marriage. Parenting Preteens It may come as a surprise, but the years from 9 to 12 can be some of the most challenging of all. Long before peach fuzz or body changes, you have to cope with distractedness, tears, outbursts of anger and the Nobody loves me blues. But somebody s got to be the adult around here! Learn how to survive the preteen years and make the teen years great. Bridget Mosley Ferocious Readers: 3 Simple Ways to Help Your Children Devour Books Reading is like Miracle-Gro for academic success. For example, it builds vocabulary like nothing else can. So let s draw our children into the amazing world of the written word! We ll cover three key strategies that help readers of all levels: making movies, increasing reading speed, and bolstering a sense of story. Top-Notch Home Management Strategies Come and discover super tips that you wish a whole string of grandmothers had passed down to you. Renee will share scores of techniques to make getting through your school day and home life easier, more productive, and happier. Save time save energy reduce stress. Seeing Fractions is Understanding Fractions Four-fifths of Americans don t understand fractions! With one clear, handson model, Steve demonstrates how to perform the basic operations as well as understanding equivalent fractions, reducing fractions, and mixed numbers. The grand finale is how to convert a fraction to a decimal to a percent. Preparing Your Teen for Life The high school years present an opportune time to develop skills young adults will utilize the rest of their lives. Learn about the importance of teaching finance, health care, car ownership, job preparation, spiritual principles, and more. All of these areas will benefit your teens when they take that giant step into independence and adulthood. A list of suggested resources will be provided. The Geology of Colorado from a Biblical Perspective Garden of the Gods. The Collegiate Peaks. Black Canyon. Steamboat Springs. Colorado is filled with geologic marvels. Come discover, perhaps for the first time, the geology of your own state using the book of Genesis as a framework. INFO I 2017 PROGRAM 31

FRIDAY 3:30-4:30PM Benham Brothers Living Among Lions: Thriving Like Daniel in Today s Babylon The same rising tide of evil that makes cowards run makes champions rise. As cultural pressure to conform increases, followers of Jesus must remain steadfast. In this session, Jason and David Benham will equip you with key biblical principles on how to thrive like Daniel in today s Babylon. It s a Matter of Identity: Leading Your Children to Know Who They Are One of the most powerful things you can do for your children is help them understand why they do what they do. Everything they do is a matter of identity. Of course the most important goal is to help them discover their identity in Christ. In this session, you ll discover four identity principles that explain how people live each day. Handling Peer Pressure This workshop addresses peer pressure both from inside and outside of our families. It provides ten ways to keep negative peer pressure at bay and then provides several ways on how to become strong for the Lord, thereby becoming a source of positive peer pressure. Jason Churchill Tools and Tactics to Counter the Culture As homeschoolers we are able to protect our children from the world s godless ideas for now. Yet one day, whether sooner or later, they will encounter that culture and its intellectual assault on Christianity. They will be challenged by the world s way of thinking and its vain philosophies. How well we prepare them now will determine how well they will be able to respond when confronted. This session will give you practical tools and tactics to prepare your children for their future encounters with the world s philosophies. Shining Armor A Son s Battle for Purity Most purity resources these days focus on girls, but purity tends to be a much larger problem for young men, and many parents seem hopelessly naive about the battles their sons are facing. Today s young men grow up with challenges to their purity on every side. In a time when over 90% of teens have been exposed to Internet pornography, how can we teach our boys to keep their way pure? What can we do when temptation is lurking on friends phones and beckons just a click away? How can we give them a biblical context for sexuality from their toddler years to adulthood? Come hear the parents of six sons give you frank, practical advice on raising your son to be a virtuous knight. Expo F-1 An Unbeatable Team In the sometimes bleak and harsh world of homeschooling, husbands and wives need each other to make it through. So, if you ve homeschooled for over 10 years, are new to the game, or are about to toss in the towel, you need to join us. And in case you are a dad and think you re off the hook, you re not! You re needed most of all! We promise that you ll laugh, be encouraged, and be challenged in YOUR distinct role on the Homeschool TEAM. Daniel Craig The Power of Mentorship: Secrets to a Truly Higher Education This session is a must hear for parents and students alike.
