The winning research deals with the steel corrosion in reinforced concrete, one of the main reasons that lead to the deterioration of concrete structures in Saudi Arabia, where chloride ions attack the protective thin layer of reinforcing steel (thickness of about 10 nanometers) and lead to rapid degradation. This is one of the most complex phenomena in terms of knowledge and control is still the traditional methods

are not able to find effective solutions to them. This research contributes to the transfer and settlement of nanotechnology and highlights the role of Saudi Arabia and King Saud University in research that relies on this cutting-edge technology which will have a positive impact on the development and support of research based on this technology.
