The Masonic family includes Masons, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners, National Sojourners, Knights Templar, Eastern Star, White Shrine, DeMolay, Rainbow for Girls and Job's Daughters, to name just a few. This scholarship program is one way in which Masons of the local Lodge continue their long historical support of public education. Several scholarships will be offered valued at up to $4000 over four years of college. Students at the following High Schools are eligible: Merced, Atwater, Golden Valley, El Capitan, Buhach, Dos Palos, Los Banos. Application MUST be made in the following packet with documents in the following order. YOU MUST COMPILE ALL THESE DOCUMENTS IN ORDER IN AN EASY TO READ PACKAGE FASTENED WITH ONE STAPLE IN THE UPPER LEFT CORNER. FAILURE TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS WILL CALL YOUR APPLICATION INTO QUESTION AND MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. A) The attached two page application and activity sheet, along with additional pages if needed for activities. B) A copy of your High School transcript. A photocopy is acceptable, but applicants awarded a scholarship may be required to provide a certified copy. Please do NOT leave the transcript in the envelope. C) The attached endorsement page, filled out completely. This substitutes for letters of recommendation. Please do NOT submit letters. D)An essay of NOT MORE THAN THREE PAGES, hand written or printed in a legible font and double spaced. This may be your generic application essay, but it is recommended that you submit an essay written particularly for this application. Do NOT submit both. Make the members of the committee understand yourself, your thoughts, your aspirations and plans, what you have done and are doing that advances those aspirations, the greatest influences on you, and how this scholarship would directly affect your life. Do not just list again all of your academic and community accomplishments, but if some particular activity or individual has been a great influence on you, you could mention that. Write well, thoughtfully, and to the point. The essay is the most important part of the application and carries the most weight in the scoring. This application will be read by a committee of Masons consisting of men from all walks of life, lifestyles and occupations. They all share a belief in a Supreme Being and are dedicated to the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. They will have broad discretion to apply subjective criteria to selection of scholarship recipients.. AVID SCHOLARSHIP: Some scholarships will be reserved for students who have participated in the AVID program for at least 2 years, have the recommendation of the AVID teacher as the first one on the endorsement page, and plan to attend a California Community College or State University. If you meet these qualifications be sure that your activities page shows AVID as the first entry. Your application will automatically be considered for the AVID award as well as the regular awards. You do not need to submit a separate application.
