Experience: Virtual Travel Digital Path Introduction Content Organization This guide explores the digital content on myworldgeography.com and look at how it allows students to connect, experience, and understand their world. All of the resources teachers need to assign content and monitor and track student progress are found online in the Teacher Center. After logging in, click Browse Content on the Programs channel. Use the View by menu to change how the content is organized. In the Table of Contents, click the plus signs or folder titles to expand the sections. myworld Geography Resources myworld Geography Tests The myworld Geography Resources folder contains Spanish resources, Teacher Help, Student Help, and more. In the myworld Geography Resources folder is a Quick Reference guide for 21st Century Skills. This provides a summary of the thirty-six skills found in the 21st Century Skills Tutor course. The myworld Geography Tests section contains all assessments organized by core concepts and chapter. 1
Core Concepts Assessments The Core Concepts assessments are organized by part. For example, there are four assessment resources for Part 1: Tools of Geography. Chapter Assessments Core Concepts Units The Chapter Assessments contain the same test types found in the Core Concepts Assessment section. Find a copy of the test and section quizzes that correspond to each section in the student edition. In the Core Concepts section, within the Resources folder, find links to the Student Edition etexts and the Online Student Journals, which can be downloaded. Below Core Concepts, find folders that organize the content by unit and chapter. The Resources folder for each unit contains etext chapter pages for the specific unit. 2
Chapters Digital Lessons Here is an overview of the content inside a typical chapter. For example, this is the chapter on Brazil. Select Preview from the Options menu to open the lesson. There are three tabs: Destination Welcome, Itinerary, and Project Builder. On the right, there are four Lesson Tool icons. Lesson Tools The Tracker Tool stores all the images, videos, audio, and notes collected while On Assignment. Next is the Visual Glossary that pairs English and Spanish definitions with images or animations in the program. Infoplease.com provides access to a comprehensive encyclopedia, almanac, atlas, dictionary, and thesaurus. The DK reference provides maps and information about a variety of topics, such as people, economics, and resources from countries all over the world. 3
Destination Welcome The Destination Welcome tab contains the activities for the In-Flight Movie, On Assignment, Overview, and the Language Lesson. Students watch the In-Flight Movie to begin their journey in myworld Geography and preview some of the key geographical features of the region. Each chapter takes students on a journey to a new part of the world. Each new journey begins with On Assignment where students are introduced to a teen ambassador who acts as a host to represent that region. The ambassadors share their personal stories and guide students through the content. The cultural Overview takes students on a video tour of the region that reinforces important geographical and cultural information. Students are able to share a lifelike experience that helps them retain facts and better connect to the Essential Question and the enduring understandings of each chapter. In the Language Lesson, the international teen ambassador shares common native-language phrases. Students listen and practice these phrases to feel a connection to each teen. Itinerary Project Builder The Itinerary tab contains the mystory Video, Active Atlas, Culture Close-up, Data Discovery, Places to Know, and in some chapters Timeline. Throughout their journey, students gather images, audio, and video as they complete activities using the Tracker. At the end of their journey, students transfer their understanding of the Essential Question by using the Project Builder to create an end-of-chapter project, such as a slide-show presentation or an online article. 4
Chapter Resources Connect to the Essential Question Audio Review Each chapter s resource section includes Connect to the Essential Question, Audio Review, Spanish Audio Review, and Hip Hop Geography. Connect to the Essential Question is the activity in the Student Journal that helps students connect mystory to the Essential Question. The Audio Review, which comes in both English and Spanish, is a summary of the entire chapter, including History and Today. Click Print Lyrics to download a copy of the audio script. Hip Hop Geography Lecture Notes Professional Development Prodcasts Online Student Edition Online Student Journal Hip Hop Geography provides rap songs that students can listen to, which contain interesting facts and Key Terms about the country or region they are studying. Click Print Lyrics to download a copy of the tunes. Lecture Notes is a presentation tool that is interactive whiteboardready. Click the icon to download a PowerPoint version that can be customized to use in the myworld Geography classroom. The Professional Development Podcasts focus on how the Essential Question for the chapter and the end of chapter activity work together to emphasize the Understanding by Design framework found in myworld Geography. The Online Student Edition, in both English and Spanish, provides an immediate link to the Chapter Opener and to sections in the chapter. These sections include Chapter Atlas, History, and Today in both English and Spanish.
