The E. John Staba, Ph.D. Papers (1946-2006) Collection No. 20 Abstract The Staba Papers were donated by Emil John Staba in 2009. The collection primarily consists of reports, correspondences, conference brochures, publications, teaching materials, and research notes. Other materials include resumes, awards, certifications, clippings, application, evaluations, and directories. The papers as a whole contain items from 1946 to 2006; the bulk of the material is from the period between 1980 and 2000. Although the collection spans Staba s entire professional career, most of the materials are directly related to Staba s positions at the University of Nebraska and the University of Minnesota. Staba organized his materials before sending them to the Lloyd Library and Museum and much of the organization reflects that scheme. Biographical Sketch Emil John Staba was born on May 16, 1928, in New York City, New York. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy in 1952 from St. John s University and his M.S. in Pharmacognosy in 1954 from Duquesne University. Staba was awarded his Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy in 1957 from the University of Connecticut. Between 1957 and 1965, Staba served as Assistant Professor of Pharmacognosy and, later, as Professor and Chairman of the Pharmacognosy Department at the University of Nebraska. From 1968 to 1982, Staba acted as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pharmacognosy at the University of Minnesota. Staba retired from his position as Professor of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Minnesota in 1995. During his retirement years, Staba performed consultation work with industry, government, and educational institutions through his firm Plants Personified. Over the course of his professional career, Staba actively participated in several pharmaceutical organizations, engaged in multiple research projects for national and international organizations, and received numerous awards and fellowships.
