Welcome to Saimaa University of Applied Sciences! The Saimaa University of Applied Sciences (Saimaa UAS) is an institute of higher education in Southeastern Finland. We offer degrees in five fields. Degree Programmes in Mechanical Engineering, International Business, Tourism and Hospitality Management and Nursing are conducted entirely in English. another in Imatra. Lappeenranta campus is situated next to Lappeenranta University of Technology. Our vision is to be the most international institution of higher education in Finland in 2025. We produce registered nurses who are professionals in supporting individuals, families and communities in multiple fields of expertise. The nursing studies are based on a personal study plan, which allows you to build your own career path. The education in Degree Programme in Nursing is highly esteemed and meets the strict quality requirements set in the EU legislation - A Bachelor of Health Care is a Registered Nurse. The students in this degree programme are offered a broad range of learning environments. Skills and knowledge are acquired as much as possible in a natural context to familiarize them with multiprofessional competences. We also utilize an online learning environment, which allows flexibility in the studies. Good relations to different partners both inside and outside the university are integral to our programme. Among external interest groups, clinical placements for students are central. We offer simulation learning and e-learning possibilities. Our wide international network also offers both students and teachers the opportunity for exchange and other forms of co-operation. Graduates from this programme may work as registered nurse in hospital environment, homecare and other kind of experts in social- and healthcare in Finland, Europe or around the world. 9

We produce experts to fit the requirements of the local and global industry, as well as business life. Our Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology prepares students for international mechanical engineering careers, especially in the fields of machine and automation design, production planning and research and development. The students of the international groups come from different parts of the world. Lectures, exercises, team and laboratory works are an essential part of the learning process. To facilitate adaptation to the new learning environment and processes, we will have a consultation with every student about his or her orientation. On that basis we make each student a personalised curriculum. After students have passed the certain number of credits, they have a possibility to take a student exchange in some of our partner universities abroad. During this period, they can complete a double degree. They also have the opportunity to practise in new working environments and establish contacts. Graduates from this programme may work as technological experts, managers, designers, developers and sales engineers in metal and forest industries, automation and information technology in Finland, Europe or around the world. 11

The programme will give you professional competence within broad scope of international business, versatile problem-solving and social skills needed in a multicultural environment, as well as tools for communicating the solutions. Foreign languages, different cultures and global business operations form an essential part of the programme. International Business students may choose whether they want to deepen their expertise in management and leadership marketing or supply chain management. The content of the studies is continuously updated together with the potential employers to meet labor market needs. Many courses are completed in joint workplace projects where you will learn hands-on skills along with theoretical knowledge. The International Business study programme includes a semester long study period at one of our partner institutions. The Saimaa University of Applied Sciences has over 40 partner institutions and universities around the world, e.g. in Germany, France, Russia, China, Malaysia and USA. 13

For more information: www.saimia.fi/en-fi Get a solid base for a successful career The Degree Programme in Tourism and Hospitality Management offers you a wide range of studies that prepare you to meet and manage today s clients high demands for high-class and innovative services. You will learn how to design hotel, restaurant and touristic services, how to manage a business and how to be a successful leader. Sales and marketing skills are also needed, as well as intercultural communication and versatile language skills. The courses are carried out using diverse learning methods from lecturers and group works to project-based studies in our own restaurant and in co-operation with local companies. Online learning is also a part of everyday teaching methods. Studies are carried out entirely in English and they include compulsory period-long studies or placement abroad. The graduates from the degree programme will work as experts or middle managers in hotel, restaurant and tourist sector. They can be employed on different management, planning and development duties such as reception managers, restaurant managers, hotel sales managers, area managers in restaurant chains or destination developers. However, to be an effective manager, practical, operational expertise is essential. This particular aspect is accomplished through the compulsory placement period. 15
