On is occasion e ideas immediately present in my mind relate to quality. Bo in my personal journey and in e journey of, I have noticed at despite all considerations, quality matters. If we consistentlypursue quality processes in our administrative, educational and research endeavors, it will result in desired effects. 'Quality Education' has become a catchword precisely because of e deficiencies of educational institutions. Various stakeholders be it parents or employers are worried at e falling standards of education in our country may not only impact e personal career of our students but also our nation building enterprise. This is so because e quality of education imparted in our educational institutions ultimately determine e standards of our industrial, social, cultural, and oer fields. An acceptance of deficient standards in education is indeed dangerous as it will eventually mean at e same deficiency will show up in every oer field. Quality is not an abstract metaphysical idea it is a material effect and hence measurable. It is not enough to adopt quality policies in all our practices, it is necessary at we submit ourselves to quality audits periodically so at we take a look at ourselves in e mirror. But importantly, we must develop an impatience and intolerance toward any compromise on quality in all our activities. Quality is not merely an inherent aspect of what we do but is connected to our ability to change and respond to changes as well. Education is a field at needs to constantly evolve and re-form itself. Especially when faced wi accelerated changes and revolutionary transformations in production, technology, and social relations, it becomes imperative at educational institutes adapt rapidly. Each time we see e world changing, we must reinvent ourselves in order to position ourselves as vanguards. Anoer aspect of quality and change is innovation. That is anoer value we must adopt. Wheer in teaching or in research, we must commit ourselves to innovation. If we set out wi e firm belief at every little act of ours can, even slightly, be improved en we realize e everydayness of innovation. Furer, we must try and institutionalize innovation so at we have e right environment for inculcating innovative attitude among our students. Wi ese oughts on quality and innovation, I convey my greetings to all e readers of The Chronicle. May God bless is great institution of ours. Dr. R J Barnabas Page 2
