The ACE Program (Afterschool Classroom Enrichment) is a program sponsored by IPSF (Irvine Public Schools Foundation) in cooperation with the Irvine Unified School District. These classes are offered right after school hours on the Turtle Rock campus for nominal fees. IPSF selects contractors who teach all types of classes ranging from athletics to academics to arts. The student will build a solid foundation in arithmetic as well as develop skills of problem-solving, analytical thinking and creative thinking. Our young scientists will explore all sorts of new experiments as they discover engineering by building and battling LEGO motorized jousters and racing custom LEGO cars, learn all about the wonders of water and even how to make it defy-gravity. Create a cloud in a bottle, giant bouncy bubbles that you can hold in your hand and even make magnetic slime. Each experiment will provide fantastic opportunities for learning and fun. It's an exciting format for learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring. It's the fast, fun way to get kids into tennis and keep them playing. Designed for the beginner and intermediate student; past students welcome. All equipment is provided. Time: 1:45-2:45 p.m. Location: Upper Courts # of Meetings: 7 SOCCER $157 Our classes are designed to help students enjoy and love soccer, all while working on their fitness. Classes are taught by experienced coaches who know how to teach skills in a fun and appropriately challenging way. During this one-hour class, players will learn the following skills: kicking, dribbling, goalkeeping, passing and ball control. There will be drills where the instructor teaches and/or improves individual skills and then scrimmages where players put those skills to use. This soccer class will be fun and is designed for students of any grade and skill level. Then join this exciting class where students will storyboard their idea, then design, create and animate their own clay character. The process starts with building an armature or Skeleton for the character. Then all layers of clay are applied until the character is ready for the camera. Students will utilize ipods to make their characters come to life. After the filming is complete, they will choose their music and supply the voice-over. Using code and lots of creativity, students will create animated stories and amazing 2D games. Then, learn the art of game design by creating your own versions of Nintendo classics, like Super Mario and Zelda. Students will then use MIT App Inventor, an application development program originally created by Google and MIT to develop their own custom apps. The program has an intuitive graphical drag and drop interface which allows students to easily create applications for mobile devices. Students will learn to design and develop real, downloadable apps while continuing to learn fundamentals of computer programming and software development. The programming concepts learned transfer to traditional languages such as Python, Java or C#. Each project introduces new concepts that are both engaging and educational. All equipment provided. The fun part is that students choose the theme! Perhaps it s a favorite movie, book or folktale. Maybe it s the Olympics or geography. We can even do yoga for sports like soccer and basketball. This class will encompass all of the cool things you see on the local news. Learn all about creating stories, reporting, speaking the news, as well as using cool equipment to make a broadcast (online) program to be shown at Turtle Rock. Students will learn how to speak on camera and the importance of articulation and voice volume, developing good pacing and optimal eye contact. Students will learn to use digital video cameras and good camera techniques. Computers will be used to create green screen effects in the full production of a school news program. Finally, strong teamwork will be used so that reports, anchors, and crew members work together to create broadcast news programs to be shown at the school. Provider: Movies By Kids Grades: 3-6 Wed. Kids explore ancient civilizations, go on quests, meet characters from different eras, and collaborate as a team to build amazing themed projects straight from the pages of their textbooks. Students will race LEGO Pod Racers from Tatooine, create motorized Sandcrawlers to search for droids, maneuver Speeder Bikes through trees and control AT-AT s on Hoth as they help each side in the battle between the Rebels and the Empire. Come join us in a Hands-on adventure in the study of comparative anatomy of many animal groupings and their unique characteristics. Dissect a different species each class section and learn how living things relate to one another. We will start with the earthworm and learn how it is a distant relative to man. We will dissect a giant grasshopper and learn about insects, the most numerous living creatures on Earth with and estimated 100 million Arthropoda per acre in some areas. We will study the invertebrates such as the crayfish and their special abilities of breathing underwater. We will also dissect frogs and investigate how their anatomy might look very different on the outside but are mini humans on the inside. After ACE class, promptly pick up your student from the ACE class location. Grade 1-3 students must be signed out from ACE class unless the student s profile at www.ipsfacademy.org indicates student s Transportation as responsible for themselves. CDC students: Please also report directly to the ACE class location. Do not check in at CDC prior to ACE class. After ACE, students will be escorted to the CDC. Be sure to notify the CDC you have enrolled your student in ACE.!! If we have space in classes after the registration period, we may accept additional students. HOW TO REGISTER: 1. Login at www.ipsfacademy.org Please use Chrome or Safari as your browser; older versions of Internet Explorer are not supported. 2. If you have not created a User Email/- Password account, you will need to create one for yourself. Click Create An Account. Once you have successfully created a parent profile, you will be directed to login. 3. Click on Add a Student to create profiles for each of your students if one does not already exist. For existing students, verify profiles are up to date including grade, homeroom and transportation. 4. Click Register for Classes. 5. Select the desired class(es) and checkout. 6. Once you have checked out, you will receive an email confirmation listing your student s class enrollment. REFUNDS: Tuition is nonrefundable unless the class is cancelled by the ACE coordinator. If your child registers late, misses classes or withdraws before the end of the session, you are still obligated for the full fees for that session. You are eligible for a prorated tuition refund or credit only if your child withdraws due to serious illness or injury, corroborated by a note from your doctor. All refunds are subject to a $25 non-refundable program fee. Please be advised that refunds may take up to one month to process. FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS: Receipts for programs attended by your child are available on request after completion of the programs. CLASS AGE LIMITS: In order to develop classes suitable for a particular age range, we specify age limits in the brochure. CLASS CONFIRMATIONS: Class Confirmations are emailed upon successful completion of enrollment. Please add webmaster@ipsf.net to your email address book. CLASS CANCELLATIONS: We do our best to accommodate all students who sign up for ACE classes. In order to keep class fees as low as possible, we must set a minimum enrollment number for each class to cover the class expenses. If the minimum enrollment is not met, the ACE Program reserves the right to cancel the class and return all registration fees. You will be notified of any cancellations before the first scheduled day of class. TRANSPORTATION: Getting students to and from class is the responsibility of parents. In the first week of classes, ACE site monitors will attempt to locate registered students who are not present in their class. After that week, however, we expect that the students will know where they should go. If your child has difficulty remembering to go to class, you might want to escort him/her or contact another child in the class so your child has a buddy to provide a reminder about class. ACE students must be picked up immediately after class. Arranging pick-up is the responsibility of parents. School staff, ACE instructors and ACE volunteer monitors are not responsible for your child after class. If you are late picking your student up two times, your student will be removed from the program and there are no refunds. SNACKS: Your child is always welcome to bring a personal snack. Please do not send any snacks containing peanut or tree nut products. Please contact the school site ACE coordinator immediately if your child has severe food allergies. CONTINUING CLASSES: Unless noted otherwise in the brochure, students in continuing classes must submit a registration form and payment for each session. CONDUCT: Normal classroom conduct is expected of all ACE students and we generally have very few problems with the behavior of our students. Children displaying unacceptable behavior will be issued a one-time Behavior Citation that will have to be signed by a parent before the student can continue the class. If a second citation is necessary, the child will be dismissed without refund. SCHOLARSHIPS: A limited number of 50% - 75% scholarships are available for all classes based on need. The work is easy taking roll, assisting any children who need help, occasionally helping with classroom set up and clean up, and randomly checking on each class a few times during the class period.
