LION KING, Jr. CREW PACKET CHECKLIST FOR CREW SIGN-UP FOR Lion King, Jr. Please be sure to bring the following materials from this packet, completed and signed, to the crew sign-up in the WJHS auditorium on Monday December 14th: 1. Application form (all 3 pages), completed and signed; 2. Signed Photo Release; and 3. Check made out to Youth Connection for $200.(Applications will not be accepted without) If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Karen Funari at karenfunari@yahoo.com or 847-254-2224, or director Robert E Bierie, at bbierie@comcast.net

Dear Parents and Guardians, Lion King, Jr Youth Connection is delighted to announce this year s Theatre Experience at Wilmette Junior High. This program provides WJHS students who are interested in performing or in the technical aspects of theatre with an opportunity to work on the production of a live musical theatre performance, all in the comfort of Wilmette Junior High School. This spring, Youth Connection is presenting the musical Lion King, Jr. at WJHS. The musical will be performed on Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 3rd at 2:00 in the WJHS auditorium. We are fortunate to have a professional guest director, Robert E. Bierie, returning to WJHS to direct the show this year. Mr. Bierie is a popular veteran of North Shore theatre and served as the Artistic Director of the Wilmette Children s Theatre for 17 years. This opportunity for WJHS students to participate, either on stage or backstage, in a live theatre performance is sponsored by Youth Connection. Youth Connection is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to offer social, service and educational opportunities to Wilmette-area 5 th through 8 th graders, and to provide experiences that encourage kids to participate, grow and have fun in a safe, inclusive environment. AUDITIONS/CREW SIGN-UP The crew sign-up for the show will take place in the school lobby and auditorium after school on Monday December 14th. Auditions for the cast will be in the auditorium after school on Monday December 14th and Tuesday, December 15 th (sign up outside the DEN for just one of these dates). Callbacks for actors will take place in the auditorium after school on Thursday, December 17th. Although there will be auditions in order to cast the show, all students interested in performing in the cast (or participating on the crew) will be allowed to participate! Students may sign-up for an audition time on the bulletin board outside the DEN at WJHS. For information about what to prepare for the auditions, please see the Lion King, Jr. link on the Youth Connection web site. There is a form to fill out and the director, Robert Bierie, will send you rehearsal information based on the role(s) you would like to audition for (www.youthconnectionwilmette.org). No prior theatre experience is needed to participate! Due to the nature and new availability of this show, the CREW will be building/creating all the costumes and set with our set designers and costumer. The CREW will start rehearsals at the same date as the cast, January 4th, 2016.

REHEARSALS All rehearsals will take place at WJHS. Page 3 of the attached application lists all of the rehearsal dates that your child is expected to attend. Participants must commit to attending all of the scheduled rehearsals. We will try to work around important conflicts, to the extent feasible. Please be aware that students having more than three (3) unexcused absences from scheduled rehearsals may lose their role. After the play has been cast, a more detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed showing the breakdown of scenes/characters/crew that will be rehearsing on a given day. It is possible that not all cast members and crew members will be needed for every rehearsal, but in making this commitment they should be prepared to attend on all days set forth in the attached application. PARTICIPATION FEES The budget for this production of Lion King, Jr comes in part from student participation fees. The fee for participating in the show is $275 for cast members and $200 for crew members and is due at the time of the audition/crew sign-up on January 12th and 13th. Please make checks payable to Youth Connection. The cost of the cast/crew t-shirt is included in the participation fee. Please be aware that role shopping (or auditioning for multiple, time-conflicted productions at the same time in order to determine a student s best casting) is very disruptive to all productions and is strongly discouraged. To discourage role shopping, a student may be prohibited from participating in call backs if his or her participation fee has not been paid. If payment of the participation fee creates any kind of problem/issue, please contact Karen Funari at karenfunari@yahoo.com or at 847-254-2224. REFUNDS If a child decides not, or is unable, to participate in the show and provides email notice of this decision to the director (Bob Bierie at bbierie@comcast.net ) or Karen Funari on or before December 28th, then the family of the child will be entitled to a refund of 100% of the participation fee paid. Please be aware that, if a child decides not, or is unable, to participate in the show after Monday, December 28th, the participation fee will not be refunded. EXPECTATIONS 1. During rehearsals and performances, all students are expected to comply with, and will be bound by, the terms of the WJHS Student Handbook. 2. Students are expected to be on time and prepared to work.

3. If you choose to join us in the show, barring extreme circumstances, we do expect you to honor your commitment to the show, regardless of the final casting. Our goal is to create the best possible experience for every student! 4. If a student has a break during rehearsal and is not required onstage or in the music room, the student must be in the DEN, in Homework Club or Homework Assistance, or sitting in the auditorium. If a student remains in the auditorium, they must not be disruptive to those rehearsing. 5. No food or drinks (other than water) are permitted in the auditorium. 6. Students may not use their cell phones while they are rehearsing. Students may use their cell phones while they are not rehearsing, provided that they do not talk on their phones while inside the auditorium. 7. We must respect each other. Civility to all is required of all participants. REMOVAL FROM THE SHOW A student participant may be removed from the show for any of the following reasons: 1. Continued failure to stop disruptive behavior. 2. A violation of the school s policies with respect to drugs, alcohol and/or violence. 3. Endangering another participant or a professional. 4. Unscheduled absence from more than three (3) rehearsals for which he/she is scheduled, in the absence of illness or a family emergency (to be considered on a case-by-case basis). If you have any questions about the production or this programming, please feel free to contact Karen Funari at karenfunari@yahoo.com or at 847-254-2224 The spring musical is a time-honored tradition at WJHS, and Lion King, Jr is sure to be a wonderful hit. We think this is going to be a great show. We hope you will join us! Youth Connection
