Annual Liaison Survey How would you characterize students roles in your school s career development program? The students are more passive rather than active learners which we would like to change. There is also a disconnect between the first two years and their transition to the clinical campuses Semi-involved Very low involvement at the moment. Students are very much partners in this process. They are very proactive in identifying needs and putting pieces in place --sometimes it is up to us to catch up. Other times they consult with us first about a unified approach. We look to students for their ideas and their needs so that what we are offering is going to satisfy that. They are very active in organizing different events to discover different specialties et they participate well in different type of activities Students play an active role in our career development program. As second year students, they serve as career specialty interest group coordinators. Through all 4 years students are involved in various weeklong programs that introduce students to specialties (primary care week, surgery week, women's health week, etc.) as well as conferences and symposia (minority health conference, health care symposium, etc.). Finally, as upper classmen, students serve as mentors and advisors serving on various panels and providing informal advising through our advising program. Students vary in their level of involvement. Those seeking highly competitive residencies or students who have had academic challenges are most active.
Annual Liaison Survey If there were one thing you'd like to add to your institution's CiM/career advising and planning program what would it be? More and protected time in the curriculum/career course More mentors Better connection with Advisory Deans/more faculty involvement More alumni involvement/ More outreach to alumni for their own careers Improved faculty development More student involvement More structure to program MSAR for residency More workshops interviewing came up multiple times
