Teachers at The Woodlands School hold high expectations for all students. The Woodlands School is also a regional centre for the education of approximately 360 gifted students. Enhanced Grade 9 French is designed for French Immersion students and those with advanced French language skills, both written and oral. The senior Physical Education courses may be run as co-ed courses. ARTS AND CULTURE SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR (SHSM) The Arts and Culture SHSM is a specialized program that incorporates the disciplines of Visual Art, Digital Media, Drama, Music, Social Studies, Cultural Studies, and Business. This program assists students in their transition from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college, university, or the workplace. The Arts and Culture program consists of a bundle of 8 credits, including 2 co-op credits. It also includes contextualized learning activities, sector-recognized certifications and training courses, experiential and reach ahead experiences related to chosen post-secondary pathways. In order to complete an SHSM in Arts and Culture, students must: 1. Complete a bundle of 8 specific courses (see chart below); 2. Complete Sector Certifications and/or training programs; 3. Participate in experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector (e.g. co-op work experience, job shadowing, job twinning); 4. Learn and document the industry Essential Skills and work habits using the Ontario Skills Passport; 5. Gain Reach Ahead experience connected to the student s post-secondary plans.
