Workshop for Young Researchers on Comparative Social Security and Social Protection Research Graz, 2nd 7th of May 2011 Dear professor, From the 2 nd until the 7 th of May 2011 the Austrian section of the European Institute of Social Security together with the secretariat general of the EISS will organise its Workshop for Young Researchers in Graz (Austria). The Workshop for Young Researchers is intended for researchers with at least one year of research experience in the field of social security and social protection in the broadest sense of the word. The Workshop offers 'young' researchers with different academic backgrounds a forum for discussing their research topic and used methodology. At the same time professors with different disciplinary backgrounds lecture on comparative research methodology when researching social security and social protection. During a one-week Workshop the participants are introduced into the methodology of comparative social security research looking at social security from different disciplinary angles: namely from a statistical, a legal, a sociological, and an economic angle. Experienced social security professors from all over Europe give lectures and open the discussions with the students on their work. The main focus of the Workshop is however the participants work; participants present their research, their used methodology and problems/findings are being discussed in group. To that end every prospective participant is asked to send in a paper of approx. 10 pages summarizing his research topic and used methodology as well as the issues he/she would like to discuss with fellow participants. Every person who is admitted will also have to prepare a critical analysis and comments upon the presentation paper of one other participant. At the end of the week an exercise on writing a project proposal will be made. The registration fee (including accommodation with breakfast (5 nights (Sunday to Friday), excursion and farewell dinner) is 450,00 EUR for non-eiss members* and 350,00 Euro for EISS-members. The fee has to be paid beforehand. An invoice is send after the acceptance of the application. All researchers interested in joining this Workshop week for Young Researchers are invited to apply for admission by sending in the application form to the address below no later than by the 15 th of February 2011. The number of participants * will not exceed 25 persons. Decisions on admission will be notified before the 10 th of March 2011; in case of admission, the participant will have to send in his/her presentation paper at the latest by 10 th of April 2011.
