Admission Policy Eligibility Criteria: Top 1,50,000 candidates, from all categories, based on their JEE(Main) scores Admission Criteria: Category wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced) subject to condition that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates of their Boards in applicable categories.

Admission Procedure Break-up of 1,50,000 candidates qualified for appearing JEE (Advanced)- 2013 is : Category Percentage Number CML 50.5% 75,750 OBC 27.0% 40,500 SC 15.0% 22,500 ST 7.5% 11,250 -- 3% of the candidates selected within each category are from PwD (Persons with Disability) sub-category.

No tie-break mechanism was applied There was a bunching of candidates at the cut-off marks for each category, and as a result, Total number of eligible candidates : 1,52,351 Total number of registered candidates: 1,26,749

Examination Pattern No change in syllabus and examination pattern from JEE- 2012. To avoid implementation difficulties, eligibility criteria for 2012 pass out was modified as 60% marks in their 12th Board or equivalent (55% for SC/ST/PD candidates). This one time exception was done with the approval of the IIT Council.

Preparatory Courses These were allotted to ST category candidates who had qualified to join the preparatory programme. Preparatory programme also has 98 PwD sub-category candidates.

Preparatory Seats Allotted at IIT Kanpur Category GEPD OBCPD SCPD STPD ST Total Seats 02 02 01 02 03 10 Based on the decision of the JAB, IIT Varanasi has agreed to include students admitted in preparatory course against vacant seats in IIT Kanpur. On successful completion of the preparatory course, these students will be admitted to the 1st year undergraduate programme of the courses allotted to them at IIT Kanpur.
