Vide paper read second, the EX IV Section, Pareeksha Bhavan has pointed out some anomalies in the Syllabus of Adib i Fazil Preliminary implemented with effect from 2016 Admission and also indicated that the detailed Syllabus of Part II - Paper I & Paper II English is not provided. Vide paper read third, the Chairman, Board of Studies in Urdu and Persian forwarded the Corrected Version of the Syllabus of Adib i Fazil Preliminary incorporating the Syllabus of English Papers. Vide paper read fourth, the Vice Chancellor has given orders to replace the Adib i Fazil Preliminary Syllabus 2016 admission already uploaded in the website vide reference cited first with the Corrected version of the Syllabus forwarded by the Chairman vide reference cited third. Sanction has therefore been accorded for implementing the Corrected Version of Syllabus of Adib i Fazil Preliminary,in the University with effect from 2016 admission. The School of Distance Education shall follow the regulations framed here in for Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary course under the above faculty with effect from 2016 Admission. The Duration of Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course shall be two years. The above resolution of the Board of Studies was approved by the Faculty of Language and Literature at its Meeting held on 19.01.2016 vide paper read second. Vide paper read third, the Academic Council at its meeting held on 20.01.2016 approved the Minutes of the Meeting of the Faculty of Language and Literature held on 19.01.2016. 2 UNIVERSITY OF CALICUT Regulations for Adib i Fazil(Urdu) Preliminary Course (With effect from 2016 admission and onwards) 1. TITLE 1.1 These regulations shall be called Calicut University Regulations for Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course under Indirect Grading system effect from 2016 Admission. 2. SCOPE, APPLICATION & COMMENCEMENT 2.1 The regulations provided herein shall apply to the Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course under the Faculty of Languages and Literature Conducted by the Calicut University, for the admissions commencing from 2016, with effect from the academic year 2016 2017. 2.2 The School of Distance Education/Private Education shall follow the regulations framed here in for Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary course under the above faculty with effect from 2016 Admission. 2.3 This Scheme and Syllabus of Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course may be followed by the university for Regular mode as and when necessary. 2.3.1 The Board of Studies(Urdu) will decide the criteria for Internal assessment for regular mode as and when necessary. 3. DURATION. The Duration of Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course shall be two years. ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSION 4.1 Candidates for the Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course examination shall be required to have passed or acquired eligibility for higher studies in SSLC examination or any other equivalent examination recognized by the university/competent authority. 5.2 The criteria for selection of students to the course and regulations regarding the reservation of seats shall be as per the rules framed by the Government/University from the time to time. 6. Course of Study The Course shall comprise the study of the following subjects: Part I. Malayalam

Evaluation. (1) Evaluation shall be carried out under Indirect Grading System a) For the successful completion of the Course and award of the Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary course Certificate, a student must score a minimum of 35% marks separately for Part I, Part II and Part III. b) A student shall be declared to have passed the examination in a paper if he/she obtains minimum 30% marks in that paper. c) A student is required to pass all papers of Part I, Part II and Part III inorder to be declared as passed the Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary course. d) A student who desires for re appearing/ improving the performance in a paper of the first year/second year, he/she can appear for the re examination in the subsequent year /Examination on registering for re examination.

4 8) Pass Condition a) Appearance for the External Examination (EE) is compulsory and no Mark/Grade shall be awarded to a candidate if he/ she absent from EE b) Minimum for a pass in each Part including first year and second year is 35% Marks for External Examination. c) If a candidate is absent from the external examination he/she has to reappear the same absented papers. e) Minimum 35% grade is required for successful completion of Part I,II&III separately. f) The mark minimum for a pass in a paper shall be fixed 30%. g) The minimum marks for a pass in a paper or a group shall be fixed or changed as per the university direction time to time. 9) Improvement/ Re appearance: a) There shall be One improvement chance for each paper in order to secure a higher grade or as per the University rules. b) Improvement Chance can be availed during the course or within a year after the course. c) A student who secures a lower mark than pass mark in a particular paper is permitted to register for re examination within 14 days after the publication of the result or within a minimum period decided by the University for improving the performance if he/she desires so and can appear for the examination in the subsequent chance. d) If a candidate fails to appear for the re examination for improvement after registration, or if there is no change/rising the mark after availing the improvement chance, the mark secured in the first appearance will be retained. e) There shall not be more than one improvement chance for a paper. 10. Moderation: a) Moderation may be awarded subject to a maximum of 5 % in a paper of external in the first appearance. b) For a course concerned, the maximum of moderation awarded as per the university rules.

5 10) Revaluation: Revaluations are applicable as per the University rules/norms a) Students can apply for photocopies of answer scripts of external examinations. Applications for photocopies/scrutiny/ revaluation should be submitted within 15 days of publication of results or as per the university rules. The fee for this shall be as decided by the university, time to time 11). Continuation of the Course A Candidate who has been registered for the examination at the end of the first year shall be permitted to continue the course of the study in the second year class irrespective of the results of the first year examinations. 12) Transitory Provision Not withstanding anything contained in these regulations. The Vice Chancellor shall for a period of two years from the date of coming in to force of these regulations have the power to provide by order, modifications as may be necessary. The Board shall also decide to use grade system instead of marking as and when necessary, if marking systems are out of use or as per instructions from the University. 13) Repeal The regulations now in force in so far as they are applicable to Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course offered by the School of Distance Education/Private study and to the extend they are inconsistent with these regulations are here by repealed. In the case of any inconsistency between the existing regulation and the new regulations relating to Adib i Fazil(Urdu) Preliminary Course in their application the later shall prevail. 14. 7 The Malayalam Syllabus/Reader/Units in Higher Secondary Course (12 th Standard) of Govt. of Kerala, Dept. of Education shall be followed for Adib i Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary Course Part I, Paper II Malayalam in time to time. Syllabus of PART II Paper I English (for First Year) Total Marks : 100 External Assessment : 100 Duration of the Examination : 03 Hours Course Code : AFUP EN 01 Title of the Paper : Prose, Grammar and Composition OBJECTIVES The course aims to develop English language and communication skills of first year learners of Adib I Fazil (Urdu) Preliminary. The course is divided into three modules: the first module consists of a number of prose lessons, the second module discusses functional aspects of grammar with tasks for practice and third module on composition deals with how language needs to be used appropriately in an accepted form to communicate in writing. The first module on prose aims at acquainting the learner with the power of the word and the experience of reading. The second module is to familiarize the learners with the rules of grammar and usage that underpin the patterns of language use. As the learner proceeds by practicing structures as directed he/she will be able to produce language fluently, easily and accurately. The third module is designed to take the learners through a series of tasks in composition, enabling him/her to negotiate writing tasks of everyday life. Module I : Prose 1.
