Vet Veterinary Assistant Training Program We are pleased to announce we are working with Gilroy Veterinary Hospital (GVH) to enrich your experience in Veterinary Medicine. In Partnership with Boston Reed College Program Summary: As a Veterinary Assistant you will help the Veterinarian or the Veterinarian Technician in their daily tasks. You will feed, water, and examine pets for signs of illness, disease, or injury; and clean and disinfect cages and work areas, as well as sterilize laboratory and surgical equipment in laboratories, animal hospitals and clinics. This course combines 35-hours of classroom instruction with a 24-hour externship to provide you with a complete learning experience. (Total 59 Hours). Dr. Greg Martinez of GVH states, this is an excellent course for anyone looking to prepare for the veterinary field, whether you're looking to gain more personal knowledge or if you're looking to develop skills for working in the field. This preparation is appropriate for clinics, hospitals or even venues such as research labs or the large local animal husbandry field. High school graduates or adult students who may be thinking about Vet School eventually should consider this class as a first step on their career ladder.'' Course Fee: $1,099.00 includes books, consumable supplies, externship, and course completion certificate. Financial Assistance: Students with a need for financial assistance may contact Boston Reed College partner loans at (800) 201-1141. Community Job Survey: Starting pay $10 15 per hour. Pet owners are becoming more affluent and more willing to pay for advanced veterinary care because many of them consider their pet to be part of the family. This growing affluence and view of pets will continue to increase the demand for veterinary care and cause the field to grow faster than average through 2018. Certification: Upon successful completion graduates will receive a certificate. Schedule: Classes are conveniently scheduled on Saturdays afternoons. Externship: Externships coordinated by Boston Reed College directly. Prior to placement, students will need to show proof of computer proficiency and submit a resume. Pre-requisites: 18 years of age or older HS diploma or GED Proficiency in keyboarding & basic understanding of computing and word processing Command of English Language (pre-assessment given on first day of class) Internet access, printing capabilities & working email address. No veterinary office work experience required. According to the US Dept. of Labor the need for Veterinary Assistants is expected to grow faster than average by 2018 This is a not-for-credit program.
