Lesson: Bullying Scenarios Length: _20-30 Age or Grade Intended: 3rd Academic Standard(s): 3.4.3 Suggest nonviolent strategies to manage conflict. Performance Objective(s): Given a real-life scenario, the student will identify possible choices to consider when being teased about physical appearance. Assessment: Properly filling out vocabulary sheet Providing correct responses to scenario handout Check list of students names for participation Advance Preparation by Teacher: Make handouts; vocabulary and scenarios Procedure: Introduction/Motivation: 1. Read the book Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell to the class. 2. Have a student summarize the book. How would you summarize this story? (Bloom comprehension) 3. Talk about the meaning of the book as a class. What is the theme of the book? (Bloom- Analysis) How could you use this story s message when working with classmates? (Bloom Application) 4. Encourage the students to use the word bullying. 5. Talk about how someone can be different. 6. It is alright to be different no matter how you look. Step-by-Step Plan: 1. Provide real-life scenarios for the class to decide if the student acted appropriately or not. Can you provide another way of how the students should act? (Bloom Synthesis) 2. Introduce the vocabulary terms to the class. 3. Pass out the list of words 4. Read the words out loud to the class 5. Have the students determine what the words mean as a class. 6. Have the students write the definition on the paper (Gardner Verbal-Linguistic) 7. Have the definition on the bored so they can copy 8. Hand out the handout that has multiple scenarios 9. Have the students individually complete the handout

Closure: 1. Partner up the students and have them pick a scenario and act it out to the class. (Gardner- Bodily-Kinesthetic; Interpersonal) 2. Only allow three or four acts for time management. 3. Ask the class if each scenario was properly acted. When will you be able to use these scenarios at school and home? (Bloom Application) Adaptations/Enrichment: LD Have a print out to the vocabulary with definitions to give to these students Autism Allow this student to tell scenarios and not act out Self-Reflection: Did the students find the meaning of the book? Could the students relate the book to real-life? Where they able to come up with real solutions to the scenarios? How did the students respond to acting the scenarios? Was it taken seriously? Did the students connect personally?

Name: VOCABULARY ELEMENTARY BULLYING PREVENTION Bullying Bullying happens when a person or a group, that is physically or verbally more powerful, persists in treating another person, or group, disrespectfully. Bullying is unwanted and unwelcomed behavior and can happen physically, verbally, through gesture, and in written form. Put-downs or Insults Negative, disrespectful comments or behavior directed at another person or group of people. Bystander A person who happens to observe the bullying behavior Target The person the bullying action is aimed towards. Buddy or ally A person who takes action in a bullying situation. The action may be to comfort the target, get adult help, or say something to the bully to try to stop the bullying behavior. Respect To treat another kindly, with patience and care. Active Listening To carefully listen to another while looking at them. Understanding Differences To know and understand that each person is special in their own way.
