Dear Potential Sponsor, TED.com is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering ideas in the fields of technology, entertainment and design. In an effort to further the spread of ideas, TED.com licenses TEDx conferences, which are independently organized events created to facilitate ideas worth spreading in communities. Our fifth annual event at the University of Florida was in the spring of 2014, and was a fantastic success. With help from our sponsors, we can continue to improve on those successes, and hold TEDxUF events for years to come. As a follow-up to our greatly successful 2014 event, we are currently seeking support for our TEDxUF 2015 event - the sixth university-wide TEDx event to be held at the University of Florida. The theme of the conference is Break Through. Through storytelling, speakers will share actionable principles related to progress in their field. This inclusive event aims to spark collaboration and the development of ideas among a variety of departments on campus. Some past TEDxUF supporters include the University of Florida Student Government, the Office of the Provost, the Bob Graham Center, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Honors College. Due to last year s success, we are doubling our capacity by hosting our event at the University of Florida s Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, on March 21, 2015. Costs are estimated at $33,190 USD, with a current estimated funding gap of $13,690 USD. Benefits include (but are not limited to): university exposure throughout TED.com, inspiration of attendees and online viewers to pursue ideas, and several networking opportunities for faculty, students, alumni, and community memebers. In addition to ourselves, our team includes faculty advisors: Jamie Kraft, Executive Director, UF Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Tiphanie Raffegeau, Ph.D. Student, Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. The team is complemented by a number of well organized and highly capable graduate, staff, and undergraduate students. We can plan this event from start to finish, but without the support from our sponsors, we would not be able to realize the successes this event is capable of generating. All contributions are greatly appreciated and will be recognized appropriately. More details about TED.com, TEDx, TEDxUF, the event, and sponsorship are provided in the following pages. About TED, TEDx and TEDxUF TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gorfon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: the TED conference takes place every spring in Vancouver, Canada (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Whistler, Canada), and TEDGlobal is held each summer, this year in Rio de Janero, Brazil TED s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily; the new TED Conversations, enabling broad conversations among TED fans; and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxUF, where x = independently organized TED event. At TEDxUF, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. 4
