Please look around you in the Wilmington area for a likely high traffic area for a new location for the Gallery. Email me or someone else on the Location Search Committee ( list is below ) and let us know if you see a spot worth exploring. Also, we are committed to growing our membership in both the WAA and the Gallery and are looking for new members for each. Please ask your fellow artists to join the WAA. Ask people you know who would like to learn about art to join. An invitation may be what s missing that would make a big difference to someone who wants to learn to express themselves visually. If you are not currently on a committee or are not doing much on the committee you are on, please join another committee or ask around to see what needs to be done that you might help with. Our new web site is coming soon. You will be proud of the new image we are projecting. We will have new conveniences on the website which will make being a member easier and fun! You will also have greater exposure for your art to the public eventually. Thank you, all of you, for what you make available for artists in the Cape Fear region. You are really appreciated. Committee reports continues GALLERY REPORT Kathleen McLeod Committee Chairperson kmcleod1950@hotmail.com The Wilmington Art Gallery 616 Castle St. Wilmington, N.C. 28401 910-343-4370 A decision has been made to close the Wilmington Art Association Gallery on Castle St. and to re-open it at another location. The input of the WAA members is vital at this time so that an effective business plan for the gallery can be developed and implemented. You will find a survey attached with this newsletter. I have sent the Survey in Word format so you may email your responses to Kathleen ( kmcleod1950@hotmail.com ) or you may mail the survey to her at: Kathleen McLeod 1818 Vincennes Pl. Wilmington, N.C. 28405. Instructions are on the last page of this email for those of you that may need assistance with emailing the completed word document back to Kathleen. *COMMUNITY RELATIONS REPORT Erika Lawrence Committee Chairperson erika7law@aol.com OUTREACH SPECIAL EVENT AT THE GALLERY Laney High School Art Competition Please come and support our talented Laney High School students this Friday at their Opening Night Reception and exhibition of their art work. This is our first WAA Outreach to the Community for this year. We are running it as the Special Event for the Gallery for March. This is a student Art Competition within Laney High only for this year and hopefully extending the invitation to the rest of the High Schools in the coming years. Both 2D pottery and iron work along with 3D art work and photography will be exhibited. Awards will be given in both categories. Reception: Friday, February 25th Time: 6PM-8PM Award Presentation: 7PM We look forward to seeing you this Friday as we celebrate all of our young and talented artist. The March newsletter was published after the reception, however, the information was in the February newsletter. Art of the Camellia Show Everyone who participated in the Art of the Camellia show is asked to try to pick up their art work from the Gallery by this Friday. * PUBLICITY REPORT Gordon Webb and Steve Logan Committee Chairpersons Gordon Webb (webb@ithaca.edu ) Steve Logan (loganartstudio@gmail.com ) The publicity team wants to help promote your W.A.A. event... and to do so effectively we need LOTS of lead time. On top of the advanced notice required by most mass media outlets is the time required for us to prepare and distribute your information. This means we need the details of your event at least six weeks prior to the event. Think of it this way: if you have an event starting March 15 -- we needed to know about it by today (February 2). That's the way it works... we're all volunteers and need to schedule W.A.A. business around our own personal schedules. It also helps to have your detailed information in writing -- preferably on our "publicity request form" (attached to this newsletterl). Almost everything is handled through electronically these days and this streamlines our work -- allowing us to cut-and-paste, rewrite and get the information out quickly. Please don't assume ANYTHING... even regular events, like the Spring Show require a publicity plan -- and the sooner we know what you need, the better. Thanks from your publicity "co-chairs," Gordon C. Webb Steve Logan webb@ithaca.edu loganartstudio@gmail.com Page 4 of 6
