Welcome Millfield is a school alive with the creative arts and this calendar sets out our extensive and diverse programme for the year ahead. Most events are open to all parents, pupils and the public but some have limited access. To avoid disappointment please check seat availability via the contacts below. Not to be missed. 18 September 2014 Tennis Centre House Song 6.30pm / Free admission to all All pupils participate in the House Song competition. Each house grouping presents a massed choir and chamber choir piece to the whole school and parents. A wonderful evening that demonstrates the strength of house spirit that pervades Millfield life. An evening that is often the highlight of a pupil s year!

All pupils are invited to audition and the selected acts perform on the following nights. Planned collaborations include Year 9 pupils and Art Scholars joining forces with Millfield Prep School. 14 October 2014 The Egg Theatre, Bath Shakespeare Schools Festival Performance 7.00pm / Tickets from 7-9 from theatreroyal.org.uk/the-egg Millfield is once again proud to be part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival. This national festival brings Shakespeare alive with fantastic opportunities. Prompted by his childhood drawings, which show a playful approach to the monsters of the imagination, his earlier self is revisited and explored within the urban, contemporary scene. 6 November 2014 Foyer

Travelling French Production: Erreur d identité 7.00pm / Pupils only By Onatti Productions A more formal concert occasion featuring some of the most accomplished young musicians in the Millfield Senior School community. This hilarious play is set in a rundown hotel in France, miles from anywhere. A man arrives at the hotel but the owners are convinced he is an escaped fugitive they read about in the newspaper. They call the police but nerves get the better of them and they try to apprehend the man themselves. In the struggle they accidently knock him out. 18 November 2014 Wells Cathedral Eucharist 10 November 2014 Remembrance A Service in Wells Cathedral celebrating the Water of Life in music and word. A commemoration of the start of the First World War featuring a new composition for Camerata and other creative art scholars.

Also a Saturday matinee performance at 2.00pm on 29 November. Our big production in the Autumn Term is a full-length major play, showcasing our pupils acting talent. Expect impressive visuals and spellbinding performances! The second of this year s International Concerts features this exciting young quartet.

A more formal concert occasion featuring some of the most accomplished young musicians in the Millfield Senior School community. a new piece for the first time. Tea and cakes are served. The French play gives pupils the opportunity to practise both their creative and linguistic skills by putting on a performance of an authentic work entirely in French. Tea and Dance Driving rhythms played on a myriad of instruments from this outstanding percussion ensemble. 2.00pm / Free admission to all A showcase of our vast array of dance classes and their preparations ahead of the Dance Show in March.

1 February 2015 2 February 2015 3 February 2015 5 February 2015 Atkinson Gallery Street Parish Church Fashion Show A2 Drama Performance Inspired by the fashion trends for Summer 2015, pupils in the Art department will exhibit collections designed and produced with the school s fashion designer Lizzie Brittain during evening workshops in the Fine Arts Centre. These will include our BTEC Art & Design pupils and Art Scholars, and a selection of pupil work will be displayed in the Atkinson Gallery. A more formal concert occasion featuring some of the most accomplished young musicians in the Millfield Senior School community. 6.30pm / Free admission to all The A2 Drama Performances is an evening of breathtaking theatre. A2 pupils demonstrate their expertise and invention at the culmination of their two year course. The productions are a diverse mix of styles, Commedia, Physical, Verbatim and Naturalism. They are always exhilarating and demonstrate the tremendous imaginations of the young directors and actors, giving them an opportunity to show their wonderful creativity and performance abilities. 6-7 February 2015 3 February 2015 Wells Cathedral Candlemass Funny Bones Sketch Show Choral Eucharist for the Feast of Candlemass, including a beautiful candlelit procession around the empty nave of Wells Cathedral. An evening of classic and original comedy sketches performed by our older pupils. Expect high energy and big laughs!

13 February 2015 11.30am / Free admission to all A more formal concert occasion featuring some of the most accomplished young musicians from Nine at Millfield. 1 March 2015 Fine Arts Centre MA & Other Post Graduates: Art Scholars Workshop 23 February - 28 March 2015 Atkinson Gallery MA & Other Post Graduates Free admission to all Proudly maintaining its ethos of promoting the next generation of artists, the Atkinson Gallery showcases the work of students who express particularly fresh, innovative ideas. The MA and Other Post Graduates exhibition reflects the talent and wide range of work being produced in art schools today, and is never shy of prompting debate. 4-7 March 2015 Dance Show but early booking advised Over one hundred pupils will be taking part in this celebration of dance. They will be performing a wide range of styles including Tap, Contemporary, Hip-hop, Street, Ballet and Modern. We look forward to having the opportunity to thrill you with a sparkling evening performance. 11.00am-3.00pm 2 March 2015 Composition Concert Performances of A level compositions from current students.

They are an opportunity for GCSE candidates to demonstrate their skills and experience at the end of the course, applying them to an extract of script for examination. The different styles and choices of script are always diverse and exciting, demonstrating the tremendous range of the young actors and giving them an opportunity to show their wonderful creativity and performance abilities. A showcase of raw acting talent. This evening of very short plays is an opportunity for older non-drama pupils to display their skills as performers in challenging, modern, edgy repertoire. 12 March 2015 Foyer 20 March 2015 14 March 2015 Wells Cathedral Wells Choral Concert 7.00pm / Tickets from the Music Office 01458 444404 Day House Concert A celebration of the musical talent of our day pupil community which raises significant sums of money for local charities each year. The Millfield Chorale, our adult community choir, combine with the school choir to perform Mendelssohn s epic Elijah.

23 March 2015 28 April 2015 Wells Cathedral Choral Eucharist A more formal concert occasion featuring some of the most accomplished young musicians in the Millfield Senior School community. Towards Pentecost - Choral Eucharist, half way through the Easter Season celebrated in Wells Cathedral. 26 March 2015 Concerto Concert Sixth Form musicians performing movements from concertos with a professional orchestra. 27 April 2015 A more formal concert occasion featuring some of the most accomplished young musicians in the Millfield Senior School community. AS Drama Performance The AS Drama Performance is a breath-taking theatrical event. AS pupils are directed in plays packed with intensity and emotion. Junior Play The Junior Play is one of the highlights of the Drama calendar. Recent years have seen exceptionally creative productions of Frankenstein and Alice, a modern take on Alice in Wonderland. The Junior Play always attracts an enthusiastic and committed cast and crew from Year 9 and 10 pupils and gives them a wonderful opportunity to perform a full scale show. 21 May 2015 4 June 2015 14 May 2015 Foyer 18 May 2015 Dance Studio Tea and Dance Foyer Leavers Farewell performances from Year 11 and Sixth Form pupils who will be leaving this year. 4.30pm / Free admission to all The performance will consist of solo work choreographed and performed by the girls in Bazique who are leaving us this year. Also, featuring performances from Millfield Senior School pupils. The annual Poetry Festival is a celebration of Millfield s talented young poets, in a showcase of their work. Also on the bill will be a professional performance poet. Come along and delight in the possibilities of language! For one night only the Meyer Theatre plays host to the final event of the theatrical calendar. Come along and enjoy the buzz of imaginative short plays, written and staged by our pupils!
