Rachel Brantley earns NOC studentathlete of the week honors Rachel Brantley of Broken Arrow has been named Lady Mavericks soccer studentathlete of the week at Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa. Head Women s Juan de Dios Castillo made the announcement for the week ending Oct. 23. Rachel is a midfielder that has scored 1 goal and has 9 assists, Castillo said. Rachel is one of our power engines in the midfield and brings great dynamism to our team. She is a very smart player and sees the game as a top player. She works very hard in practice and wants to be better every day. Brantley is a freshman at NOC and a graduate of Broken Arrow High School.
Open Gym with NOC Maverick Cheerleaders set for Dec. 4; learn & improve skills See the liability waiver on the NOC Website Hannah Nealis NOC Tonkawa SAW Hannah Nealis, a graduate of Jenks High School, has been named women s basketball student-athlete of the week at Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa. Greg Krause, head coach for the NOC Lady Mavs, made the announcement for the week ending Nov. 13. Nealis, a 5 9 freshman, averaged 20.7 points per game, 3.7 assists per game and 2 steals per game for the week. She shot 52 percent from the field and 48 percent from the 3- point line. Hannah is adapting very well to the flow of college basketball, Krause said. Additionally, she has taken on the point guard position due to an injury on the team. She is playing with confidence. The Lady Mavs record is 6-0, following a 99-70 win over the Brown Mackie Lady Lions from Salina, Kan. Nov. 11. The next home game is Nov. 19 against the Tyler (Texas) Junior College Apache Ladies.
Open Auditions for Shrek the Musical open to students, faculty & the entire community Musical Theatre OPEN AUDITIONS! OPEN TO STUDENTS, FACULTY & THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY! COME JOIN US ON STAGE!!! The Northern Oklahoma College Department of Musical Theatre is having open auditions for our upcoming production of the delightful SHREK THE MUSICAL! Everyone (students, faculty, community members) is invited to audition and join us!!! Audition Dates: Monday, December 5, 7:00 pm, SINGER OPEN CALL Tuesday, December 6, 7:00 pm, SINGER OPEN CALL Thursday, December 8, 7:00 pm, CALLBACKS Rehearsals Begin:January 17, 2017 Performance Dates:February 23 26, 2017 Audition Requirements For the singer open call, you may come Monday the 5 th or Tuesday the 6 th. Prepare one or two songs (Broadway or Disney style) for the singing audition. An accompanist will be provided for those who have sheet music, but you may also bring pre-recorded accompaniment (CD or phone). No sign up required just show up! A callback list will be posted (on site and via email) Wednesday morning the 7 th, along with music and script sides to prepare for callbacks. Callbacks will consist of singing from the show, reading scenes from the show, and a short dance audition that will be taught on site. A final cast list will be posted on Friday morning, and scripts will be available for the cast to pick up immediately. Our first meeting will be January 17 th, where we will begin music rehearsals. Rehearsals are Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 10:00 pm, with some Fridays and Saturdays added as the performance draws closer. Cast members must be available for all rehearsals and performances. Mexican Pile On Mav Cheerleader fundraiser set for Dec. 7 Late-Night Breakfast at NOC Enid Dec. 6 (FREE) Whitney Metker NOC Tonkawa SAWs Announced Grace Brzozowski of Harrah and Whitney Metker of Lindsay have been named women s basketball student-athletes of the week at Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa. Greg Krause, head coach for the NOC Lady Mavs, made the announcement for the week ending Nov. 27. Brzozowksi is a 5 11 freshman and a graduate of Harrah High School. She averaged 12.5 points and 6 rebounds per game. Grace is beginning to play more aggressively and it s showing up with her game production, Krause said. Her strong play is so valuable to our team s strength heading into the heavy part of our conference play. She s making quick progress as a freshman. Metker, a 5 10 sophomore, averaged 21 points and 6 rebounds per game. She shot 55 percent from the field and 71 percent from the 3-point line. She is a graduate of Lindsay High School. According to Krause, Whitney is one of our co-captains and is an excellent team leader. She always competes hard. This year she has also been shooting exceptionally well. The Lady Mavs record is 7-3. The next home game is Dec. 3 against the Labette Community College from Parsons, Kan. Tipoff is 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men. Grace Brzozowski
NOC Tonkawa Cookie exchange set for Dec. 7 Happy Holidays Happy Holidays NOC Regents Elect Officers At their Nov. 16 meeting at NOC Stillwater, Northern Oklahoma College Regents elected officers, heard a presentation by Business Division Chair Cara Beth Johnson and approved a request for the college to change to a self-insured group health plan. Jeff Cowan, Ponca City, will chair the Regents. Linda Brown, Ponca City, will serve as vice chair and Chad Dillingham, Enid, will act as secretary. Johnson told the Regents that NOC was the first community college in the state to be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Northern offers four degree programs with four additional options: associate in science degrees in Business Administration, a transfer program; Computer Science, which has grown tremendously; Enterprise Development, offered through the State Regents; and an associate in applied science degree in Business Management. In four of the past five years, NOC s Governor s Cup Business Plan Competition teams have placed in the top six of all Oklahoma college teams in the Small Business Division. The Regents approved a request to change to a self-insured group plan as participants in the Oklahoma Higher Education Employees Interlocal Group (OKHEEI), authorized Evans to delegate authority to the Chief Financial Officer to make decisions regarding OKHEEI Board of Trustees matters and approved the creation of an agency special account fund to administer OKHEEI premiums, claims and expenses plus a budget revision to include this fund. Dr. Pam Stinson, vice president for academic affairs, updated the Strategic Planning report regarding Northern s measures for assuring faculty and staff professional development and accessibility to students. Personnel actions included the hiring of Taelor Turner, assistant coach for the NOC Enid women s basketball team. Anita Simpson, vice president for financial affairs, reported total net assets of $8,866,507.74 for the fiscal year 2016-2017 and presented October financial reports for the Regents approval. Regents also approved monthly allocation requests totaling $180,000 for various projects at Enid and at Tonkawa, as well as requests for November purchases, including renovation of Memorial Student Union and a new fire alarm system for Threlkeld and Boehme halls, all at Tonkawa. Present were regents Jeff Cowan, Ponca City; Stan Brownlee, Enid; and Chad Dillingham, Enid. The Board of Regents will meet Dec. 14 at NOC Tonkawa. Reggie Scurry is NOC Tonkawa SAW Northern Oklahoma College Maverick Reggie Scurry has been nominated men s basketball student-athlete of the week ending Nov. 27, according to Donnie Jackson, head men s basketball coach. Jackson selected the 6 7 power forward for the honor, saying, Reggie is having a very productive season for us so far. He had 24 points and 9 rebounds in our game against NOC Enid [Nov. 21] and has been a very strong inside presence on both ends. He is putting things together as a player and person and is very deserving of this recognition. I'm proud of who he is. Scurry is a sophomore from Atlanta, Ga. and a graduate of North Clayton High School. The Mavericks season record is 6-3. The next home game is Dec. 3 against the Labette Community College from Parsons, Kan. Tipoff is 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men. Earn college credit while traveling abroad with NOC Global Education programs Welcome back to the new academic year. I hope your first few days at Northern have been fantastic and you are looking forward to a productive semester, said Dean of Global Education Wade Watkins. As a student at NOC, you're a part of a historic institution continually ranked as one of the top community colleges in the nation but we are also ranked as one of the top community colleges to send students abroad on short-term study abroad programs. We've sent 1,000+ students overseas to more than 30 countries on all seven continents. Our programs allow students to broaden themselves academically, personally, and professionally, and earn college credits towards a degree. NOC study abroad program courses include: Humanities, Service and Leadership, Lab Science, Nursing, Social Science (history, economics, politics, etc.), International Studies, and Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Management. Students can typically earn 3-6 credit hours by participating on a 10-14 day study abroad program. These experiences are fast-paced, but the learning opportunities are seemingly endless.
