Sport & Game Instructor is in search of a seasonal/part-time sports & games instructor to complete the sport & game team for our Winter/Spring recreation program. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the responsibilities listed below, meet our basic requirements and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively instruct in our program. The open position is focused on a variety of organized sports including soccer, basketball, tumbling, etc. and general physical education; please refer directly to these subject areas in your cover letter. RESPONSIBILITIES Perform educational responsibilities, including: o Coordinate with staff to plan & schedule classes & programs. o Instruct classes in a specialty area. o Communicate with staff regarding supplies, space, & other needs. o Develop a rapport with class members & respond to questions & concerns. o Observe progress & discuss with students when appropriate. o Set up & take down class equipment as necessary. o Demonstrate appropriate classroom & facility management at all times to ensure safe & effective classes. o Follow all Portland Parks & Recreation rules, policies, & procedures. o Maintain excellent communication with all staff & customers through verbal & written means. o Wear Portland Parks & Recreation name badge or staff clothing while on duty. o Attend all mandatory staff meetings & required trainings. o Recognize and promptly respond to safety hazards and emergency situations. o Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Possess basic knowledge & skills related to assigned area of instruction. Ability to work a variety of hours, including days, evenings, weekends & holidays. Maintain First Aid & CPR certifications Ability to assess, develop and implement curriculum to meet the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child. Ability to work with families and children from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic background. Ability to use positive discipline techniques. Ability to perform custodial duties as needed.
