Sponsored by Bentley Systems Preactive MC 2 Mid Continent MicroStation Community Adjective take-charge, energetic, driven, bold, dynamic August 16-17 Overland Park Convention Center Overland Park, KS Serving the Greater Kansas City area: Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa and beyond The 2011 MCMC Conference finds us in an age of unprecedented, rapidly accelerating change. It s too late for proactive: we need to become preactive. The dictionary defines proactive as being take-charge, energetic, driven, bold, dynamic. We all know the drill. Don t wait, do something NOW take action! But, things are changing so fast that it is easy to be doing something that doesn t need to be done. How do we know the action to take is the right action? Being proactive is all about solving today s problems before they grow worse. This is no longer good enough. We need to solve tomorrow s problems the ones that are predictable and solve them BEFORE they happen. To be preactive is to anticipate the future events and take positive action to meet those needs. Stop thinking of change as disruptive. Shift from proactive to preactive, from reaction to anticipation. Rather than live in constant crisis management, take initiative. Become an opportunity manager. If you become preactive, you are in opportunity mode and you are looking at problems before they occur. Instead of reacting to change from the outside in, you can create change from the inside out. Purposeful. Constructive. Inside-out change that directs your future. So take the next few days and immerse yourself in the sessions and workshops at the conference. Find the solutions to the problems that you are in a unique position to see coming in the near future. Then go back and put these solutions into action. Be preactive! August 2011 Call to Arms for involvement We always need new members like yourself to help plan the conference, present or host meetings beyond the annual conference. The current leadership and committee members have donated much of their time and we would like you, the conference attendee, to get involved. While there is real effort involved, participation is rewarding and can be a huge step in your personal and career development. Please, find a Committee Member and ask them what you can do to help! Thanks to you! Thank you for attending and have a great conference! Kirk Reh Kirk Reh - Chairperson, MC 2...and the whole committee

US Army Corps of Engineers - Day 1 USACE BIM Success Stories...9:30 10:30 Presented by Stephen Spangler, US Army Corps of Engineers, ERDC-ITL It is hard to believe it has been over five years since the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers first began using BIM in design projects. Like the old Virginia Slims slogan You ve come a long way, baby, the Corps truly has come a long way in adopting BIM. This presentation will present a history of that adoption and the successes achieved. Contract Language What Exactly Does the Corps Want?... 10:45 11:45 Presented by Steve Hutsell, US Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a hot topic in the industry, and the Corps of Engineers is leading the way with its use and its requirements for A/E/C Partners to deliver projects. This session will discuss the history and need for the contract language, the current state of the language, the different versions of the language (Center of Standardization projects, non-center of Standardization projects, and BIM Neutral ), the submittal of a BIM Project Execution Plan (PxP), clarifications and other Q&A items frequently submitted to the Corps. USACE Design Review Workflow Using i-model Technology...1:00 2:00 Presented by Travis Wollet, Bentley Systems BIM software is just one small piece in the BIM process puzzle along with collaboration, real-time coordination and many others. This presentation will examine the USACE Dynamic Review BIM workflow leveraging Bentley Navigator V8i. It Is Easy Being Green: Achieving LEED Certification Through BIM...2:15 3:15 Presented by Stephen Spangler, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ERDC-ITL and David Pratt, CEO/President - LoraxPro Energy/water use reductions are being heavily pursued in both new and existing buildings within USACE. One way to achieve these reductions is to LEED certify buildings. This presentation will focus on USACE's current efforts in LEED certifying buildings and how AECOsim: Compliance Manager is one tool that can aid in those efforts. The ROI of BIM: A Qualitative vs. Quantitative approach...3:30 4:30 Presented by Bill McNamara, Bentley Systems This session will review the return on investment (ROI) of implementing the BIM process. Changing from CAD to BIM offers many areas for improvement including better communication, time savings and improved quality. For many these improvements have not translated into shorter schedules or a reduction in man hours so where did the savings go? We will look not only at the quantitative ROI data but also the qualitative data. US Army Corps of Engineers - Day 2 Creating a Successful Project Execution Plan for USCE and your Company...8:15 9:15 Presented by Steve Hutsell, US Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District This session will focus on understanding the value of early collaborative planning for BIM. Attendees will learn a four-step procedure for developing a BIM Project Execution Plan and discover how to embed BIM planning requirements into the capital facilities delivery process. The presentation will illustrate the benefits of implementing the BIM Project Execution Planning Procedure as either a project team effort or as part of an owner s procurement process. Presenter will describe the adoption of the BIM plan requirements for standardizing deliverables and level of detail. COBie: Let's Not Recreate the Data Ever Again...9:30 10:30 Presented by Beth Brucker, US Army Corps of Engineers, ERDC-CERL Current contracts require the handover of paper operations, maintenance, and management manuals. This documentation is typically gathered at the end of a project and copied from approved submittals, boxed, and delivered two years after beneficial occupancy. There are large costs associated with this process. The Construction and Operations Building information exchange (COBie) is an information exchange format for easily capturing and delivering life-cycle information to the facility managers. In this approach, the information is added as it is created during design, construction and commissioning.. This presentation will contain a brief overview of CO- Bie, how to provide COBie deliverables, information on current COBie pilots, and give an update on vendor implementations of the COBie standard. Knowledge Level: All Levels Looking Beyond the Building: A Bentley/USACE Campus Information Strategy...10:45 11:45 Presented by Bill McNamara, Bentley Systems Campus Information Management projects are some of the most complex multidiscipline implementations found throughout the Geospatial industry. Bentley Systems has developed the Campus Information Management Workshop Program to implement a common platform that accesses multiple data sources and technologies. This presentation will introduce participants to the Bentley Campus Information Management Workshop Program including an overview of the Campus Architecture, data and integration requirements. BIM and Civil works: It s not just for Buildings Anymore...1:00 2:00 Presented by Brian Huston, Bentley Systems This presentation will review the USACE New Orleans District Civil Works Information Model (CWIM) Pilot Production project completed in 2010. Lessons learned will be reviewed in the pilot projects that were identified to assess new modeling and analysis processes deployed with a ProjectWise Managed Environment and the USACE Tri-Service Workspace. The review of CWIM generated models using Navigator will be demonstrated and CWIM candidate projects that are currently being assessed at other USACE Civil Works Districts will be critiqued. So Where is USACE Heading? A Panel Discussion...2:15 3:15 We will see a lot of great things at this conference regarding what USACE has been doing with BIM. So what is next? This session will include panel presentations on possible future directions for USACE, as well as addressing any lingering questions through a wrap-up Q&A with the audience.
