March 11, 2019 Point Place Business Association FROM THE PRESIDENT SPRING AHEAD! Let's hope Mother Nature follows the rule... Spring brings warmer weather activities around our community. Six weeks until our 44th Annual Easter Egg Hunt, 11 weeks until 29th Annual Point Place Days begins and 19 weeks until Legacy & Scholarship Foundations Golf Scrambles. It will soon be time for the beautification committee to get the flowers in the planters and the American flags to be hung. Another project I would like to continue is Adopt a Garbage Can. For a few years there are a few businesses and residents that have adopted one of the black garbage receptacles along Summit St. I would like to get this started again. Contact me if you are interested in helping out. Hope to see you at the dinner on March 16, Celebrating Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur. Tickets are still available but contact me today. Remember that our April dinner meeting will be the 4th Wednesday, April 24th. This will be the Scholarship Banquet at Ottawa River Yacht Club. Think Spring! Joyce Ejhinger President

Visions of Cullen Park By the time you receive this, the time change will have taken place...yea! Reports say the fishing will be great and we will ask for a dock to be put in by the end of March (weather permitting.) At our last meeting there was discussion about how to proceed in prioritizing our goals. We will keep our focus primarily on Cullen Park. With the Biggest Birding Week approaching in May we are mulling over an advertising plan. It was reported that Bayview Park is the #2 spot in the city limits for bird species and Cullen Park is 16th in Lucas County. We will address a method of being able to identify the light poles in the event of needed maintenance. Also there will be a follow-up on the surveillance camera. HEADS UP! Mark your calendar. The April meeting is being switched to the 3rd Wednesday (the 17th). The next meeting is March 27. Till the next time, THINK SPRING. Vee veestader@gmail.com KINDNESS IS CONTAGIOUS! It s time for PPBA's 44th Annual Easter Egg Hunt Our Annual PPBA Egg Hunt will be at 10 am on April 20, 2019. It will take place at Friendship Park. It is for children from Birth to 10 years of age. Over 2000 eggs will be filled with candy and spread out in circles for 5 age groups, throughout the park. In addition, each child, if they get an egg or not, will line up and take home a prize. Grand Prize Eggs will be hidden in the 5 circles for a few lucky children to win larger prizes. Grand Prizes such as a wagon from Scott Woods @ State Farm, bonds or gift Certificates from Attorney James Nowak or a filled Easter Basket from Merchant s Landing Mini Storage, have been donated in the past. Gift Cards to a local store for a small shopping spree or restaurants for free pizza, hot dogs or ice cream, are also great prizes. PPBA strives to promote our great businesses in the Point & Shoreland Community. It is our goal to have a clean, safe and beautiful business community. The Easter Egg Hunt is just one way to give back to our community for buying local... If you would like to promote your business at the egg hunt by having a card table at the event, you can pass out literature, business cards and of course Easter Eggs. In past years Great Clips has handed out discount cards and did free braids and temporary hair color for the kids. Arnold's Home Improvement has sent out their buddy Arnie the Hammer along with representatives to hand out flyers and goodies. You can promote your business in your own way, as long as you remember the kids. Contact Nancy or Joyce at the numbers/emails below if you are interested in having a table to promote your business. Cash donations are also appreciated. You can send a check made out to PPBA WITH Egg Hunt in the Memo. Mail it to our PO Box 5074, Toledo, OH 43611. Volunteers are needed. We gather at Friendship Park at 8 AM and are cleaned up by 11:30 AM. Contact Chairman, Nancy Anderson if you can volunteer. Feel free to invite friends & family to come and help. Point Place/Shoreland Parade & Point Place Days 2019 Point Place/Shoreland Parade Century of Champions Cheer Committee: Get well wishes to: Lindsay Webb Candy Maenle (McDonald s manager) The annual parade this year will be June 1, 2019 at Noon. We will have the same parade route as last year. Our theme this year is Century of Champions. This theme was put together with the thought of the Willard - Dempsey fight in 1919 and the 100 th anniversary of Toledo Ice Yacht Club and the 100 th anniversary of Toledo Yacht Club, so there are many opportunities for your float selection. We will be having T- Shirts for sale, they will start the 1 st of April, and you will be notified through Facebook. These are all online sales. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the parade. Our next planning meeting is April 1, 2019 at Harbor Light Lodge, 3024-131 st St. at 6:00 pm. Thank You Tom Stagner, Parade Chairman Membership Report From 2 nd VP Michael DeLong: We currently have 60 Full/Paying members for 2019, along with 19 Life members for a total of 79 active members. There are still 14 members from last year who have not renewed for 2019. In addition, we have 33 Honorary members, for a grand total of 112.
March 11, 2019 Imagine Clay Avenue Community School - This is our newest Honorary Member. The students from this school marched in our parade and will participate in celebrating Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur on March 16. As part of our standards of excellence, it is important to us that we help to create strong global citizens with a thorough understanding of what makes our country great, as well as an understanding of how government and change in governance works for Americans. Part of this understanding can be gained by visiting historic sites in and around Washington, D.C. Here are just a few of the places we are most excited to experience: The Capitol Building Ford Theatre Mount Vernon National Holocaust Museum National Museum of African American History and Culture We are going to learn so much during this trip! To attend, students need to meet certain academic and behavioral requirements outlined by the school. The cost of the trip is approximately $700 per student. Most students at ICACS cannot afford to be a part of such an educational opportunity, as our school is a small Title 1 community school with a student population who all receive free lunch. Our student population poverty level is 100%. We are doing some fundraisers to defer the cost, but with our population, fundraising presents its own challenges. We hope to have the opportunity to send all 39 eighth grade students to engage in this transformative activity. We are asking you to partner with us to make this trip a reality for our students. Please consider donating to ICACS to make this trip possible for every student on our team. In order to help defer costs for our students, we are looking for Sponsors. We are asking for your support to sponsor a student at the cost of $500. As a sponsor, you will receive pictures and trip updates. In addition, your company s name will appear on our official trip t-shirt. Imagine Clay Avenue Community School is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, and any contribution you make will be tax-deductible. Our tax exempt form is available upon request. Thank you for your time and dedication to help educate our future leaders! If you have any questions about the trip or your contribution, please call Imagine Clay at 419-727-9900. Thank you, in advance, for your support. Sincerely, Jodi Johns Imagine Clay Middle School
