Their results have seen OLSH College increase our median score to 33 - an excellent effort. In addition we have been ranked in the top 10 catholic schools in Victoria. Well done to all. 2 Class of 2018 Success Congratulations to the OLSH College Bentleigh Class of 2018 on their excellent VCE results. We celebrate the College DUX, Lauren Earls, who achieved an ATAR score of 96.85. We are very proud of all of the girls, not just for their study efforts during this year, but for all of the hard work they have put in during their time at OLSH College. We acknowledge and thank their families for their support and special thanks go to the teachers whose dedication and professionalism have helped the students to achieve their best.
3 Faith and Mission News A joyous end of year Mass was celebrated on Friday 7 December. Despite the heat all members of the community joined Fr Martin in giving thanks for all of the blessings we have received throughout 2018. The music was fantastic and got everyone into the Christmas spirit. We were joined by representatives of St Vincent de Paul s who gladly accepted hampers of gifts that OLSH families donated. 4 Wellbeing News Important Dates First Day of School 2019 Years 7 and 12 (and Year 11 students taking Unit 3/4) All students Opening School Mass Wednesday 30 January Thursday 31 January Friday 1 February Students are to wear Full Summer Uniform (No PE Uniform). Caremonkey Profiles Parents are reminded to update their daughter s Caremonkey file before the commencement of the 2019 school year. Any changes to student and parent contact details must be done through Caremonkey as only parents have access to edit student profiles. 5 Year 8 City Experience OLSH College Bentleigh Year 8 students went out and about exploring Melbourne as part of their City Experience on 5 December. It is amazing who you can bump into in town, none other than Peter Mitchell from Channel 7. A fantastic day of exploring for the girls, and thanks go to their teachers for all of the organising they have done to make the day such a success.
6 Curriculum News Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program Congratulations to Year 10 student, Laura Campbell, who has been selected to participate in the 2019 Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program at the University of Melbourne. The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program designed to support high achieving students and give them a taste of university life. Participants have the opportunity to develop leadership and community involvement skills, whilst having access to the University of Melbourne s resources, academics and events at the Parkville Campus. Laura competed against 1700 students from across Victoria and adjoining boarder regions to gain this prestigious place in the Program. Congratulations Laura and to all the other students who submitted an application. Lauren Stent Years 9 and 10 Program Leader A Fine Way to Graduate Year 12 graduate, Sinead Fernandes, has been accepted into the Victoria College of the Arts in 2019. Sinead, pictured as Morticia Addams below, will be studying Fine Arts Theatre. It is rare for a Year 12 graduate to be accepted directly from secondary school so this is a wonderful achievement for both Sinead and VCE Drama Teacher, Ms Christine Lucas- Pannam. Congratulations to you both.
7 Team Work An exciting opportunity was presented to the OLSH College Bentleigh Year 9 students who see Mathematics, Science and or Engineering as a future pathway. They were invited to attend a week long program at Melbourne University (Melbourne Entrepreneurial Center) to design and create a sustainable living city using state-of-theart equipment and technology at the University. The girls designed a very innovative project working together in a team, a great effort.
8 Performing Arts News Music Soiree Reflection Thank you for hosting, running and organising such an amazing soiree night on 29 November. It allowed all the students of voice and instrumentalists to showcase their talent and progression that they have made through the year. I speak on behalf of the students when I say how grateful we are to have nights like these, helping us extend ourselves to go beyond out limits in performing. Thank you all so much. Jessica McKiggan Year 10 OLSH Rocks Out What a fantastic opportunity for the OLSH College Bentleigh Rock Band having their own recording session at the Glen Eira recording studio on 4 December. Jessica McKiggan, Emma Callanan, Aria Pisano, Charlotte Coulson and Ruby Looker won two days in a recording studio after winning in the 2018 Sounds of Glen Eira Competition. The girls are recording a demo CD and gaining great experience in working with sound producing technology.
9 Sport News Congratulations to Year 8 student, Amelia Braldey, who took home some incredible achievements in Term 4 Cheerleading with her team the Bullets Allstars. In September Milly came 1st in the State for Senior 4 All Girls Team and also won the Grand State Championship. The Bullets was the highest scoring team for Level 4 of the entire competition. In addition, in November Amelia took part in the National Cheerleading Competition in Queensland and won 1st in Senior Level 4 Assisted Stunt Partner and her team was undefeated all year.
10 The Great Victorian Bike Ride After some serious long days and unwelcome weather the 2018 OLSH College Bentleigh Team successfully completed the Great Vic Bike Ride camping and cycling their way through stunning Victoria and parts of the neighboring states which was a tremendous accomplishment. Thank you to Ms Bronwyn Verrell, Ms Robyn Rayment and the tireless support of our community of David Sturt, Neale and Tanya Sturt, Karen Gorman, Emma Sturt, Chloe Lewis and Sharon Sturt.
11 2019 House Swimming The wild weather did not stop the OLSH College spirit shining through on Monday 3 December as students went all in for the 2019 House Swimming Carnival. 12 Community and Development News Year 7 2020 and 2021 Updates The College has concluded its Year 7 2020 Enrolment Process as of Friday 2 November. Families who still wish to submit applications will be placed on our waitlist and contacted if a place becomes available. Families wishing to enroll their daughters for Year 7 2021 may do so up until August 2019. The College has already received a large number of applications and we are advising families to book in for our Open Morning in February 2019 if they wish to take a tour of the College.
