5 Year 8 City Experience OLSH College Bentleigh Year 8 students went out and about exploring Melbourne as part of their City Experience on 5 December. It is amazing who you can bump into in town, none other than Peter Mitchell from Channel 7. A fantastic day of exploring for the girls, and thanks go to their teachers for all of the organising they have done to make the day such a success.

6 Curriculum News Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program Congratulations to Year 10 student, Laura Campbell, who has been selected to participate in the 2019 Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program at the University of Melbourne. The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program is an academic enrichment program designed to support high achieving students and give them a taste of university life. Participants have the opportunity to develop leadership and community involvement skills, whilst having access to the University of Melbourne s resources, academics and events at the Parkville Campus. Laura competed against 1700 students from across Victoria and adjoining boarder regions to gain this prestigious place in the Program. Congratulations Laura and to all the other students who submitted an application. Lauren Stent Years 9 and 10 Program Leader A Fine Way to Graduate Year 12 graduate, Sinead Fernandes, has been accepted into the Victoria College of the Arts in 2019. Sinead, pictured as Morticia Addams below, will be studying Fine Arts Theatre. It is rare for a Year 12 graduate to be accepted directly from secondary school so this is a wonderful achievement for both Sinead and VCE Drama Teacher, Ms Christine Lucas- Pannam. Congratulations to you both.

7 Team Work An exciting opportunity was presented to the OLSH College Bentleigh Year 9 students who see Mathematics, Science and or Engineering as a future pathway. They were invited to attend a week long program at Melbourne University (Melbourne Entrepreneurial Center) to design and create a sustainable living city using state-of-theart equipment and technology at the University. The girls designed a very innovative project working together in a team, a great effort.

8 Performing Arts News Music Soiree Reflection Thank you for hosting, running and organising such an amazing soiree night on 29 November. It allowed all the students of voice and instrumentalists to showcase their talent and progression that they have made through the year. I speak on behalf of the students when I say how grateful we are to have nights like these, helping us extend ourselves to go beyond out limits in performing. Thank you all so much. Jessica McKiggan Year 10 OLSH Rocks Out What a fantastic opportunity for the OLSH College Bentleigh Rock Band having their own recording session at the Glen Eira recording studio on 4 December. Jessica McKiggan, Emma Callanan, Aria Pisano, Charlotte Coulson and Ruby Looker won two days in a recording studio after winning in the 2018 Sounds of Glen Eira Competition. The girls are recording a demo CD and gaining great experience in working with sound producing technology.
