School Report Card 300 S. Pathway Ct. Crystal Lake, IL 60014 The Better Schools Accountability Law of 1985 requires public school districts to report on the performance of their schools and students through school report cards. Immanuel Lutheran School is not required to publish a School Report Card but provides this information to give our parents some basic information about our school, our faculty and our students. Beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year Immanuel implemented the Northwest Evaluation Association s Measures of Academic Performance (MAP) testing in the curricular areas of Math, Reading, and Language Arts. The comparison charts use the national norm of more than 2.3 million students. Immanuel Lutheran School Pre-School through Eighth Grade Accredited by National Lutheran School Accreditation Certificate of Approval State of Illinois State Recognized

FROM THE DESK OF ED BOWER, PRINCIPAL The primary purpose for putting this information together is to give our parents and supporters some basic information about our school, our faculty and our students. During our most recent accreditation visit, the visiting team made the following statement, Immanuel is a good school. This was reflected in your self-study but also by the observations made by the members of the visiting team. The school speaks out for the Christian faith to the students and to the community very effectively. Immanuel Lutheran School received an Overall School Performance Level of 2.92. At the exit meeting, ILS was told that this was one of the highest scores seen by the members of the NLSA team. Likewise we had our visit by the Illinois State Board of Education. They do a visit to verify that the school is deserving of State Recognition. The final comment made by Assistant Regional Superintendent was very positive even going so far as to say that Immanuel was one of the best he has seen. MAP testing is performed three times per year for students in grades kindergarten through eight. Parents receive information about their child s performance through written evaluation. The reports are used to determine areas of strength and need. They are also a source of information for instructional planning and a point of reference for the teacher. Please review this information about our school and feel free to ask any questions you may have. In His Service, Ed Bower Principal

Kids of the Kingdom Singing at Nursing Home NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOL ACCREDITATION (NLSA) During the 2014-2015 school year, Immanuel went through the yearlong accreditation process. Then in the spring, a NLSA team conducted a site visit examining the educational setting of the school, including courses of study, learning materials, student needs and interest, staffing and facilities. The visiting team assessed the effectiveness of the total school program in meeting the educational objectives the school has established for itself and in meeting national NLSA standards. The Visiting Team s Overall Impression of the School Immanuel Lutheran School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students. Much thought and planning have gone into creating a positive learning environment. A dedicated, competent faculty provides quality instruction to ensure student success. The school enjoys strong support from the congregation and its leadership. Parents provide support through an active Parent Teacher League and through volunteer hours. The school administration provides dedicated and competent educational leadership. Outstanding Strengths 1. The purpose of the school is carried out through the highly evident teaching of the Christian faith. 2. The school s facilities provide a quality environment conducive to learning. 3. There is a high priority for student safety and security. 4. The school functions as an effective ministry of the congregation. 5. The school s strategic planning is positioning them for future growth. 6. The faculty and staff are dedicated to the mission and ministry of the school. 7. Pastoral support for the ministry of the school serves to strengthen and unify the purpose and mission of the church and school.

NWEA MAP TESTING MAP testing is performed three times per year for students in grades kindergarten through eight. Parents receive information about their child s performance through written evaluation. The reports are used to determine areas of strength and need. They are also a source of information for instructional planning and a point of reference for the teacher. These test scores become a part of a child s permanent record. Furthermore, the information gives school administrators information they can use to evaluate the overall effectiveness of the education program at Immanuel Lutheran School. Comparisons can be made to the national norm group of over 2 million students. MAP tests are just one of the many tools used at Immanuel Lutheran School to provide a quality education to its students. RIT Tests developed by NWEA use a scale called RIT to measure students achievement and growth. RIT stands for Rasch UnIT, which is a measurement scale developed to simplify the interpretation of test scores. The RIT score relates directly to the curriculum scale in each subject area. It is an equal-interval scale, like feet and inches, so scores can be added together to calculate accurate class or school averages. RIT scores range from about 100 to 300. RIT scores make it possible to follow a student s educational growth from year to year.
