Page 3 Dental Screening The dental nurses came last week for the screening of new students. The dental van will be here on April 30th to check up last years students and complete any further dental work. ANZAC Day This Wednesday the 25th of April is a public holiday so there will be no school on the day. We will be marching in the ANZAC Day parade and our school captains will lay a wreath at the memorial during the service. If you are able to attend please have your children at the post office by 9:45am in their school uniforms. ANZAC Day badges are now available for purchase at the school office. Sacramental Preparation This year our parish are offering the sacrament of Confirmation to any students or community members who wish to continue the journey of becoming a catholic. Usually this is for the Grade 2&3 students but it is open to older children if they wish. Preparation sessions will be held on the following dates:- - Tuesday 19th of June after school (Term 2 Week 10) - Tuesday 26th of June after school (Term 2 Week 11) - Tuesday 17th of July after school (Term 3 Week 1) - Tuesday 24th of July after school (Term 3 Week 2) The celebration of the sacrament will be held on Sunday 29th of July at St Colman s church at 9am Mass. Cross Country We will hold our annual St Colman s Cross Country on Friday 4th of May at Tea Tree Lake. We will leave school at 11:30am to walk to Tea Tree Lake and the event will begin at 11:45am. We hope to finish and return to school by 1pm for our usual lunch break. We would appreciate parental help with the walking to and from the venue and acting as marshals on the course. The successful 10, 11 and 12 Year children will have the opportunity to compete at a district level on Friday 11th of May at the Noorat Football Ground. The distances for each age level at our event are:- 11 & 12 Years 3 kilometres 10 Years 2 kilometres 9 Years 1 kilometre and 6, 7 & 8 Years Shortened distance. Please ensure that students wear their sports clothes and some clear indication of their house colour. They will also need warm clothes over the top for when they are spectating and a drink bottle.
Page 4 Mini Mission As part of the Praying Towards 2020 we will be hosting two of these missionary priests in St Colman's parish on the weekend of April 28th and 29th. In this time there will be the opportunity for mass and prayer services to ask God for support for this project. The school children will attend Mass with our missionary priests on Monday 30th at 10am. Parents are most welcome to join us. ANZAC Day Presentation Once again we are privileged to have Lachie Lee come to our school to speak to the Senior students of the significance of Australia s war history and how this shaped our nation. He will be here at 9am Tuesday morning to provide the children with a better understanding of this topic before our National commemoration on ANZAC Day Wednesday. Project Compassion During Lent, families were asked to raise money for Caritas, the Catholic church mission agency. Today we measured the volume taken up by the coins and notes brought to school and it was the juniors who won the hot chip lunch. Page 5 NEWS Soon Fundraising At the meeting last week the association began planning for our Trivia/Auction night and the school fete. The first task for the Trivia/Auction is to organise items to be sold on the night. We have a list of the businesses that contributed last year and we are asking for people to volunteer to approach these again this year. There will be a master sheet on the office door to ensure that we don t Double up. There will also be a sheet for fete activities for people to volunteer to coordinate at our Fete in 4th term.
