PAGE 4 GREENUP COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS TRUTH & CONSEQUENCES: THE CHOICE IS YOURS PROGRAM A SUCCESS Based upon the format of the 4-H Reality Store, 77 Raceland-Worthington students role-played scenarios including: possession of prescription drugs; driving under the influence; sniffing; possession of alcohol, drug paraphernalia, or illegal drugs; trafficking; and stealing drugs; etc. in the first Truth & Consequences program in Greenup County on April 17. Depending on the scenario, students visited appropriate officials and/or agencies to experience and consequences of their behavior. Parents are encouraged to participate with their children. When parents are unable to participate, Kentucky Extension Homemaker members or community volunteers assume the role of parents to the youth and accompany them as they visit the law enforcement agencies, judges, school officials, hospital, coroner, etc. The program was a partnership effort of the Greenup County Extension Office and 17 community partners. KEHA CULTURAL ARTS AWARDS If you had an article that received 1st place at the Northeast Area Annual Meeting, please bring the article to the County Extension Office and Claudine Williamson will take your article to Louisville to be exhibited at the KEHA Annual Meeting. Have your article at the Extension Office by May 1, 2015; and have it properly labeled.
PAGE 5 GREENUP COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS DIABETES EDUCATION CLASSES TO BE OFFERED AT EXTENSION OFFICE Greenup County Extension Office and the Greenup County Health Department are partnering to offer a four-part series of Diabetes Education classes. The classes will be held at the Extension Office at 1pm-3pm on the following dates: May 11, May 18, June 1 and June 8. Topics to be covered are the effects of medication on diabetes, diabetes nutrition, oral care, and cooking for diabetics. There will also be door prizes. If you would like to attend these four classes, you must register with the Extension Office at (606) 836-0201 by Friday, May 8. There is no charge for the classes. BARN QUILT SQUARE CLASSES A SUCCESS Two Barn Quilt Square classes were held in April at the Extension Office, and they were quite a success! So much so, that a third class has been scheduled for May; and has already filled up. Students picked a quilt pattern, drew the pattern on a 2 x2 wooden square, and painted the pattern to their liking. The squares were allowed to cure over the weekend, and then painted with sealer so that squares could be displayed outdoors.
