St. Michael s CE School BOARD OF GOVERNORS 2017-2018 Name: James Bawn. Role: Associate Governor Background: I have worked in St. Michael's school since 2008 and have taken on many different roles during this time. Class teacher, PE coordinator, ICT coordinator, Phase Leader, Assistant Head and Deputy Head. I am delighted to be a Governor and it is a privilege to support the school in this different capacity. Having lived in the area since 2008 and with children already at the school, I feel very equipped to support the Board of Governors with my experience as a local parent as well as a teacher. As a regular worshipper at Christ Church Earlsfield, I also strongly support the Christian ethos that permeates school life. Name: Caroline Clark. Background: As a member of the church and having lived in the Southfields community for several years, I was delighted to be asked to be a Foundation Governor. I have a son in Year 5 who has enjoyed being a pupil at St. Michael s since reception and who has thrived being part of our church and school community. A significant part of my working life has involved running managers and teams in large sports and health clubs and most recently I have taken a position working for a Community Schools Trust. Name: Paul Davidson. Role: SDBE Foundation Governor Committee: Background: I have been fortunate enough to have three children attend St Michaels, two of whom are still there in years 5 and 6. I think my children have had a wonderful education, and in being approached to be a part of the team, I hope I can in some way make a contribution back to the school and see other local children have the same great experience. Australian by birth, I have been a resident of Earlsfield and Southfields for over 15 years, attending St Barnabas Church throughout this time and enjoy a good rapport with Ian and Joy. I run a video production company creating content for large corporates, and I hope this experience will help in what appears to be challenging times for the education sector. Name: Ian French Role: Parent Governor Committee: Chair Finance & Premises Background: I am a parent of two children at St. Michael's in years 4 and 6 and one that left two years ago for secondary school. My family has been resident in Southfields for twelve years. I became a Parent Governor in September 2015. Through my experience leading teams in mining and risk companies and running my consultancy business I have a good understanding of planning and leading change, and designing commercial governance frameworks. I hope to use my time as a parent governor to be a constructive but critical friend of the school, ensure that it continues to engage and stretch all the pupils - your children - and remains at the heart of our community.

Name: Richard Holmes Role: SDBE Foundation Governor Committee: Background: I have lived in Southfields for nearly 20 years which even though not a London resident I feel this surely gets me close to being a local? My son is currently in year 4 and having a great time at St Michael's. Last Summer my daughter left after having been right through the school from reception. It was wonderful to watch her grow in confidence and awareness and I felt so proud of what she had gained from the school and especially how well prepared she was for secondary school. I have been a member of the congregation of St Barnabas for many years and have served as a member of their PCC. I am delighted to have been approached to join the board and am especially looking forward to strengthening the link between the school and St Barnabas. Work wise I have worked in the charity sector for over 20 years mainly in public affairs roles which basically means trying to influence MPs towards particular causes/issues. I have also worked for a Member of Parliament. I believe both my long standing residency in Southfields and my work has given me a great commitment to and understanding of various communities. I have been a Trustee of a number of organisations and I think this along with my work background again enhances what I might be able to offer to the Board. Name: Tim Hughes Committee: Finance & Premises Committee Background: As a Southfield resident and member of St Michael s Church, I m honoured to be a Foundation Governor for the school. I relish the opportunity to be more involved in our local community and to be part of our children s development at such a key stage in their lives. I have largely worked in the health and fitness industry both as head of finance and operations, and more recently as project manager for a software company. Outside the office, I spent 12 fantastic years as a leader for the St Paul s School Christian Union (in Barnes), with 4 years as treasurer and member of the executive. We ran activities for teenagers every Sunday as well as Christian sports camps during the Easter and summer holidays. I look forward to the challenges in my role as school governor and to draw on my experiences to help make the best possible decisions for the well-being and rounded development of the children. Name: Alex Johnstone Committee: Chair Human Resources & Pay Committee, Steering Background: I am a school parent - my twin girls joined St Michaels in Autumn 2013. I have lived in Southfields since 2005 and in London all my life. As a longstanding Wandsworth resident, I am passionate about this community and I am so pleased to be able to contribute my time and skills to this wonderful school. I have always loved learning and it is fascinating for me to participate in school life from a very different perspective. I am a Commercial and Intellectual Property lawyer and have worked for various media companies and latterly a large charity, which was useful when the PTA registered to become a charity. I currently run a consultancy providing legal advice, tutoring and coaching. I am lucky enough to work part time so have been able to accompany the children on several school outings and was class representative to both classes when my daughters were in Year One. Our family enjoys belonging to St Michael's Church and the varied ways it allows us to grow in our Christian faith. I am a member of the church's Giving Committee which grants funding to local and international charities to support its mission and am the church ambassador for Christian Solidarity Worldwide.

Name: Dr Khan. Role: Associate Governor Committee: Curriculum and Pupil Affairs Background: A member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Association and a long standing member of the Southfields Community whose children attended St Michael s. Name: Rachel Lee. Role: Staff Governor Background: I have been a class teacher and the MFL co-ordinator at St Michael s since 2014 and am lucky to be part of a truly dedicated and supportive staff team. I am delighted to have been appointed as a governor so that I can contribute further to the school community. Although not born and bred in London, I have been a resident of Wandsworth for 22 years. I originally obtained a degree in art and design and started my career in the jewellery industry; designing, manufacturing and retailing. I was chair of the PTA at my children s primary school for 2 years when they were young. I have worked in education since 2007, initially as a qualified teaching assistant prior to studying a PGCE. With a daughter at university and two sons at secondary school, I have first-hand and current experience of the expectations, challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of primary school for young people today. It is my passion and commitment, as a teacher and as a governor, to help St Michael s pupils to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally. I believe that every child should be able to move on from this exceptional school as a well-rounded, well-equipped individual with a love of learning and happy memories. Name: Aidan Magill. Committee: Finance & Premises Background: I am retired and a local resident, my family and I having lived in the area since 1981. Both our children went to St. Michaels and I am a committed Christian attending St. Michael's and St. Stephen's Church. My last job before retirement was an Administration Officer at Southfields Community College, latterly for the ICT and Business Studies Departments. I also worked in the Adult Education Department and in other areas of the school and for nine years as a School First Aider. So I have nearly ten years experience of working in a school environment, including preparing returns for the DoE and working on the Self Evaluation Forms (SEF) for the ICT department. Prior to this I was, for 18 years, a Computer Consultant working on Banking, Management Reporting and Payroll systems and have experience in the selection and use of computer software. Name: Sarah Marshall Committee: Vice Chair of Governors and Chair of Curriculum & Pupil Affairs Background: I have lived in Southfields since 2002 and both my children have been lucky enough to attend St Michael s School my son is currently in year 4 and my daughter has now moved to secondary school. I am grateful that both my children have had the opportunity to attend this outstanding school and I was honoured to be appointed a Foundation Governor in September 2013. I am currently Chair of the Curriculum and Pupil Affairs committee which is a very interesting role. It is great to see how well the school has stepped up to meet the challenges of the new curriculum you will see from our latest KS1 and KS2 results the impact of all the hard work of both staff and pupils. Over the next 12 months I am looking forward to seeing how staff and pupils enjoy the new Cornerstones curriculum and to learning more about growth mindset and its positive impact on our children.

In addition to the committees that I sit on, I have link governor responsibility for safeguarding and school journeys. In the world of work my experience spans operational leadership, business change and project management.
