P A G E 2 From the Principal s Desk I can t believe I have come to the end of my first term at Cathedral Grammar. It has flown by, I guess it does when you are having fun! Whether through chatting in the playground, meetings, the quiz night, or the parent forums, I have had the opportunity to meet with quite a number of you and I really appreciate the warm welcome you have extended to me. It has been great to begin to build connections and understanding as we plan for the future of our school. The forum results are being collated and we will be in a position to share these, along with the broad plan for the next steps, with you early next term. I wish to clarify that the holiday programme run here at school is for Y1-8 pupils together. I understand that this is a change as the younger pupils in Y1 and 2 were previously in the Pre-School holiday programme, however it has been brought to the school s attention that it is in breach of our Early Childhood License to have school aged pupils together with Pre-School pupils within the Pre-School. This is why the change was made last term. I would suggest that most, if not all, primary schools that offer holiday programmes have their Y1-8 pupils together. This also fits with our family based values and there is an expectation that the older pupils support and encourage our younger pupils during the programme. A lot of them are brothers and sisters! Our ratio during the programme is 1:12, and 1:8 when going on trips outside of school. The decision is yours as to whether this meets your needs or not, but we are not prepared to breach our license. This ruling regarding the mix of the age groups will clearly impact Family Room, so from next term Family Room will be held in the Junior School hall. I do hope you will enjoy Bugz and The Wizard of Oz over the next two nights! The pupils and staff have poured a lot of power, time, energy, skill and expertise into it and I m sure both they, and you, will thoroughly enjoy the performances. Thank you to everyone involved huge team effort! Please take note of the details below regarding the next few days. Have a wonderful holiday (three weeks!) and see you on October 17. Mr Scott Thelning Principal

P A G E 5 Prep Schools Operetta Make-up For those pupils who are not principals Please apply the make-up detailed to your child s face at home, before they report to St Margaret s College at 6.30pm on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 September. The make-up is essential to prevent sweating under the hot theatre lights and also to add colour to your child s face, as the lights make actors appear very pale. So apply liberally! Do not apply moisturizer - the make-up will slide off under the heat! Please also place your child s lipstick in a named, re-sealable plastic bag to be brought to the theatre so that their lipstick can be reapplied during the show as it is inevitably chewed off. Those girls who have long hair must have it secured in a high pony tail, a plait or bun that will not work loose while dancing energetically.
