Careers Fairs During the 2012/13 academic year, the Career Development Centre is further enhancing the range of targeted careers fairs offered to students and employers. Fairs will be promoted to all students at UCD and to subsections of the student population when appropriate. For details on cost and to book, please refer to the booking form which accompanies this information. For all other fair related queries, please contact Aoife Collins on 01 716 7572 or email careersevents@ucd.ie UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School Fairs October 2012 Memorial Hall, Blackrock Campus The UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School hosts two separate Careers Fairs. The first is designed for the professional services firms who offer training programmes in audit, tax and management consultancy. The second fair represents an opportunity for employers from a range of sectors to promote their graduate vacancies to students from a wide selection of business disciplines. Both events attract up to 500 students each year. Tuesday 2nd October 2012, 1-4pM Audit, Tax and Management Consultancy Friday 5th October 2012, 12 4pm Finance, Sales & Marketing, Management, Supply Chain, ibusiness, International Business and HRM Nursing & Midwifery Careers Fair Tuesday 11th September 2012, 11am 1pm Health Science Centre, Belfield The second Nursing & Midwifery Careers Fair will bring together final year and graduate nursing and midwifery students with potential employers in Ireland, the UK and internationally. Students at UCD s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems develop their clinical skills for professional practice within a wide range of care settings and contexts, making them highly employable upon graduation. Law Careers Fair Wednesday 3rd October 2012, 1pm 4pm UCD s dedicated Law Fair will be open to the UCD student population at large. This Fair is being organised in conjunction with the School of Law and law students will be a targeted population. As we can accommodate a limited number of exhibitors only, we recommend early booking. Business, Finance and Management Careers Fair Thursday 4th October 2012, 12pm - 4pm This is the inaugural UCD Business, Finance and Management Careers Fair. It has been introduced in response to employer feedback suggesting that our traditional general Careers Fair did not allow employers to target the student groups they are interested in. As a result we have split the general fair into two, the Business, Finance and Management Careers Fair and the Science, Engineering and Technology Careers Fair. The UCD Business, Finance and Management Careers Fair will be advertised and promoted to UCD students across all academic disciplines. We are anticipating in excess of 40 exhibitors and 1000+ students at this event. Science, Engineering and Technology Careers Fair Thursday 25th October 2012, 12pm - 4pm Building on the success of last year s inaugural Science Opportunities Fair we are delighted to introduce our expanded Science, Engineering and Technology Careers Fair. The 2011 Science Opportunities Fair generated excellent feedback from employers and students alike and based on demand, we have decided to expand this year s fair to incorporate employers from the Engineering and Information Technology sectors. This fair provides a unique forum for employers to promote their internship and graduate vacancies to a targeted audience of undergraduate and postgraduate students across all scientific disciplines, including maths and computer science, and all engineering disciplines (including mechanical, electronic, electrical, chemical, civil and structural). We are anticipating in excess of 35 exhibitors and 700+ students at this event.

Internships & Volunteering Fair Wednesday 13th February 2013, 1pm 4pm Internships are an increasingly popular way for employers to recruit for longer term positions. When interns return to their studies in UCD they can in effect act as on-campus advertisements for the opportunities your organisation has to offer. Now in its third year, this event hosts organisations advertising internship opportunities with advice on how to apply. Languages and International Careers Fair Wednesday 20th February 2013, 1pm 3pm The Languages and International Careers Fair is designed to respond to employers needs for graduates with language skills and to allow employers to promote international career opportunities to students of languages, international students and students seeking careers abroad. Languages taught in UCD include French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese (Mandarin) and Irish and we have an international student population of 5,000. Education Careers Fair Wednesday 20th February 2013, 5-7pm This Fair is designed for current and past PGDE students and other students interested in teaching as a career. The fair will provide information on some of the teaching qualifications available as well as opportunities to teach upon qualification. Representatives from exhibitors will give advice on available jobs and how to make effective applications. UCD Agriculture, Food Science & Human Nutrition Careers Day Thursday 21st February 2013 Astra Hall, Student Centre, Belfield This event is organised by final year students registered to the UCD Bachelor of Agricultural Science, BSc in Food Science and BSc in Human Nutrition degree programmes. Over 30 exhibitors are expected to attend this year s event, which will be officially launched by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. A number of keynote addresses will be provided by leading industry personnel and graduates relevant to UCD Agriculture, Food Science and Human Nutrition. To find out more about this important event, contact the UCD Agriculture and Food Science Programme Office at 01 716 7194 or e-mail agandfoodprogrammes@ucd.ie Computer Science Opportunities Day Friday 5th April 2013 This event is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to showcase their project work and for companies to network and raise their profiles amongst our students. Organised in association with the School of Computer Science & Informatics, many of the project outputs on display are potentially commerciable as they focus on cutting-edge research areas in which the School has expertise. Prior to the event a booklet will be produced for employers detailing the final year project of each student.

Services for Employers Advertising Vacancies The UCD Career Development Centre hosts an online vacancies portal- Careers Connect - for employers to advertise graduate and internship opportunities, part-time/vacation work for students and jobs targeted at experienced hires, i.e. graduates who have a few years work experience. Careers Connect is accessible only to UCD students and graduates. It provides a user-friendly interface through which employers can register their company profile and upload vacancies themselves. Once a vacancy is uploaded to the system and approved by a member of the Career Development Centre team it is normally visible to students within one working day. Presentations on Campus Each year, a number of employers choose to offer recruitment presentations on campus. We are happy to coordinate this for employers by booking rooms with the equipment needed. When necessary, for example if catering is requested, we will refer you to the most appropriate member of staff. We promote presentations actively to maximise your potential audience. Presentations targeted at specific subject groups will be located in the relevant School (if possible) and those employers seeking applications from all degree disciplines will be hosted in a central location on campus. Please note that employers seeking to deliver a presentation during the peak recruitment period of October must make arrangements at least four weeks in advance. At all other times of the year, presentations need to be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance in order to ensure appropriate scheduling and marketing to your target audience. Contact: To deliver a presentation at the main UCD campus, please contact Aoife Collins at careersevents@ucd.ie. To deliver a presentation at the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, please contact Cathy Ní Luanaigh at cathy.niluanaigh@ucd.ie When appropriate, we also target specific groups of students via email with vacancy details. Please note that we advertise vacancies supplied by recruitment agencies when names of clients are released to the Career Development Centre. Contact: If you require information on our vacancy service or instructions on using CareersConnect please contact Jessica Coyle at careers@ucd.ie Workshops on Employability Skills During the 2011/12 academic year, we offered a Skills for Working Life programme targeted at prefinal year students. This consisted of a series of twohour interactive workshops, delivered by graduate employers, covering a variety of employability skills, for example networking, leadership, teamwork and emotional intelligence. A non- credit-bearing Certificate is awarded to students who engage with these workshops. This academic year, we are looking for employers to offer a two-hour workshop in areas such as team work, leadership, negotiation, making business presentations, effective applications and interviews. Contact: If you have a business game, case study or other relevant activity and wish to be included in this programme, please contact Aoife Collins, Employer Liaison and Events Assistant, at careersevents@ucd.ie

MBA Recruitment The MBA Programme is the flagship programme on the UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School, the only business school in Ireland to hold triple accreditation and to be ranked in the Financial Times and Global Intelligence Unit s highly competitive global ranking. Participants on the UCD Smurfit School MBA programme undergo a rigorous selection process to gain admission, based on their personal and professional experience, their intellectual ability, their motivation, leadership potential, and the contribution they make to business and society. Our MBA Participants represent a cultural diversity and variety of backgrounds from engineering to financial services, sales and marketing to technology. These individuals are dedicated to the enhancement of their careers and their contributions to organisations like yours. If you d like to learn more about how to engage, such as by submitting a project to the MBA Consulting Initiative or viewing the online CV Book, contact Brian Marrinan, MBA Careers Manager at brian.marrinan@ucd.ie or call him on 01 716 8926. Post-Doctoral Recruitment As a research intensive university, UCD is host to many post-doctoral researchers across all academic disciplines, but particularly within the sciences. A significant number of PhD graduates with experience of research at postdoctoral level go on to employment in the private sector, where their highly developed analytical and problem solving skills and their contribution to innovation in a knowledge-based economy are invaluable. If you are interested in engaging with post-doctoral researchers please contact Mark Cumisky, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Adviser, at mark.cumisky@ucd.ie Sponsorship Opportunities September 2011 saw the launch of the second UCD Career Guide, which is produced by specialist publisher GTi. This one-stop-resource aims to help students plan their career, make effective applications, better understand the graduate recruitment process, recognise, develop and articulate their employability skills. The Guide presents employers with an excellent platform to promote their company, internship and graduate opportunities to the full range of students at UCD. The UCD Career Guide was distributed to around 5,000 students during 2011/12. Longer term deals to sponsor Careers Fairs are available. This provides employers with prominent branding alongside UCD Career Development Centre, free slots at Careers Fairs and inclusion in promotional activities in the run up to the event. We have opportunities for employers to sponsor smaller items such as our range of professionally produced leaflets and pamphlets. Contact: If you are interested in sponsoring an event or product, please contact David Foster, Director, at david.foster@ucd.ie.
