We hope that our learners used their time productively in order to prepare for the examinations. The Mid-Year Exams have started in all earnest and will continue until the 22nd July. ANTIGONE Congratulations to the directors, cast and back stage crew on staging a sterling drama production. Ms Cowell and Ms Eagar can be proud of their drama students. Thank you also to our grade 9 learners under guidance of Mr Williamson and who hosted their entrepreneur s event on Concert evenings. PREPARATORY SCHOOL CONCERT The preparatory school will be staging Aladdin on the 16th and 17th July. Please support the Preparatory school. The production as always promises to be a must-see event. NETBALL Congratulations to our Netball girls and their coaches, Mrs Shepstone, Mrs Leta, Ms Wilsch and Ms Maupe on attaining collectively first place in the D1 League. We are exceptionally proud of this achievement. WINTER SCHOOL The grade 12s will be attending Winter School from the 10th-28th August. All grade 12s have received the timetable today. These are compulsory scheduled lessons. Learners must please ensure that they do attend these lessons. The grade 12 Information Technology learners are being urged to book a space to attend the University of Johannesburg s JAVA Winter School from 17-21 August. Booking is essential and only learners who pre-book their spaces will be accommodated. The workshop will be held at the Kingsway Campus in Auckland Park. Bookings can be made telephonically on 011 559 2967. It is the learners own responsibility to book their spaces.

The target is only 15 units. Please donate blood. Parents are also most welcome to donate blood as well. LEADERSHIP INDUCTION CEREMONY The prefect Induction Ceremony will be taking place on the 24 th July at 07:50-08:45 in the school hall. Invitations will be sent out on Tuesday 14 July. INTER HOUSE ATHLETICS Inter House Athletics will be taking place on the 5th August at Wits School of Education campus in Parktown. Learners need to be at school at 07:50. Safe transport will be arranged for all learners to and from the venue. Learners will be back at school at 14:30 to catch their normal transport home. This is a compulsory school event and no learners will be excused from the event. Learners must wear their full school tracksuit and Physical education kit with takkies on the 5th.
The aim is that all learners must participate and represent their house. Learners who really cannot do sport will be accommodated as helpers on that day at the event. There will be a tuckshop available to learners provided by the Wits School of Education. The final costs regarding the bus fee will still be communicated to parents and learners. All parents are most welcome to join us on the 5th to see their children participating. PARENT TEACHER CONSULTATIONS All parents are being invited to come to school on the 6th August to sign for the 2nd Term progress report. The Mid Year and Prelim Exam dates might be extended with a day or two. MANDELA DAY Mandela Day will be celebrated on the 18 th July which falls on a Saturday this year. Due to the fact that learners will be busy writing exams on the 17 th July we are kindly requesting that all College learners commemorate Mandela Day this year by donating one loaf of bread towards charity. Learners are required to bring the loaf of bread to school on Friday the 17 th. The bread will then be donated to charity as part of the schools charity drive commemorating 67 minutes for International Mandela Day. GRADE 12 AFRIKAANS ORAL MODERATION All Afrikaans Grade 12 learners have to be at school on 9 October 2015 at 13h00. Non-attendance would imply non-compliance and will result in possible failure in Afrikaans.
CREATIVITY COMPETION The Creativity Competition which was won by Vanessa Sibiya in grade 9. She wrote an excellent Essay entitled The Espionage. She won a beautiful goodie hamper donated by About Marketing. Gratitude is being expressed to About Marketing for the generous donation. EID Eid will probably fall on Friday the 17 th July. This will impact on our students from our Muslim community. A meeting was held with students who will have to attend Mosque on Friday morning. A joint decision was taken that our students who celebrate Eid, who were scheduled to write exams from 08:00-11:00, will then write the scheduled exams from 11:30-14:30 on Thursday the 16 th July. Obviously learners who are not scheduled to write exams on the 17 th will not come to school on the 17 th and will be able to celebrate Eid with their families for the full duration of the day. Grade 10 students scheduled to do the Drama practical exam during the second session on Friday will then have to do the drama practical tomorrow, 9 th July during the second exam session. ATHLETICS TRAINING Athletics training will commence in the afternoons after school from the 23rd July until the 30th July daily between 14:45 and 16:00, except for Friday afternoons. There will be no other extra mural activities scheduled for these afternoons. All learners are being encouraged to participate.
