Year 6 SATs Information for Parents
Why are we here tonight? To inform you about Year 6 SATs To encourage you to support your child and make a significant difference to their learning.
What are the SATs? Statutory Assessment tests which all pupils take at the end of Key Stage Two They provide a snapshot of attainment in English and Maths Used to inform Secondary Schools to ensure smooth transition into Year 7
SATs 2019 English* - Reading, - Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. Maths - Arithmetic Paper 1, - Reasoning Paper 2 & 3 Science - Teacher Assessment for 2019 * Writing will be teacher assessed in June 2019.
SATs 2019 Pupils will be judged to have either: Not met Year 6 expectations; Met Year 6 expectations; Exceeded Year 6 expectations (mastery/higher standard/greater depth).
SATs 2019 Pupils will receive their results in July and will be given both a raw and scaled score: Raw score number of marks the pupil answered correctly in the test. Scaled score the raw score will be converted into a scaled score. The scaled score must be 100 or more in order to attain the expected standard.

Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Test English Skills GPS All Year 6 pupils will undertake externally marked test focusing on spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary (45 minutes plus spelling) Challenging content wide range of technical information is tested.

Grammar Test Children are required to know a range of technical vocabulary. They will need to understand these terms before they can apply them to answer questions.
Grammar Test This allows children to apply literacy skills they have learned throughout Key Stage 2.
HOW MANY TECHNICAL TERMS DO YOU KNOW?
Reading Test The Reading Test will include three different texts. Past examples include stories, diaries, letters, interviews, explanations and poems. One hour to read texts and to answer questions. (Total of 50 Marks)
Reading Test Some questions will ask the children to find answers directly from the reading booklets.
Reading Test Others will require the children to infer or deduce answers by using words or phrases as evidence. To read between the lines.
Reading Test Some questions will ask the children to evaluate what they have read, again using the text to back up their answers.
Mathematics Test There are three tests: Paper 1 Arithmetic Test (40 marks) Paper 2 Reasoning Test (35 marks) Paper 3 Reasoning Test (35 marks)

Mathematics Test The first questions in the paper are generally at the expected difficulty with the more challenging questions towards the end of the exam paper, which are targeted at the Mastery/ Greater Depth difficulty.

Special Arrangements Some children, who need questions read to them, will have a reader. Some may have a scribe to write for them. Some may have longer time to complete tests. Pupils who are ill on the day of a KS2 SATs test will be able to sit it within a week.

The Big Day! Children are encouraged to arrive at school at 8.30am for juice and a cereal bar.
What are WE doing? Intervention groups to reinforce understanding. Small group support in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Challenging opportunities to reach greater depth content in every lesson. Cross-curricular teaching. Test preparation making everything relevant. Making children feel confident. Fun hard work but no additional stress on the children!

CGP Revision Booklets Specifically designed for SATs revision. Cover Reading, GPS and Mathematics papers, including arithmetic. Useful for short, sharp revision bursts 10 minutes per day! Answers included, along with a chart for children to keep track of their progress.
CGP Revision Booklets These booklets will replace English and Maths homework from Wednesday 27th February 2019. Spellings and home reading will continue as normal alongside the revision booklets. We suggest 1 test from each booklet per week - 30 minutes of revision.
After School Revision Optional for all of Year 6 Monday evenings 15:40-16:30 Reading, GPS, Maths Mr Taylor, Mrs Burns, Mr Steel Focussed sessions on different curriculum areas. Consolidates & reinforces content covered in class. Refreshments will be supplied for pupils.
What can YOU do? Keep a positive attitude towards SATS Reassure your child. Read with your child at every opportunity. Revise the multiplication tables. Talk about their learning. Use revision guides and websites to support your child s learning. Encourage them to use educational games on the computer (see websites). Go through some practice papers together. Ask if you have any concerns or questions!
