Assessment of Writing Greater emphasis on composition for effect. Can children use correct style, structure etc for the audience and purpose? Children have to show evidence of a secure fit against the criteria although discretion may now be applied if a pupil has a specific and particular weakness in one element of writing but overall there is strong evidence that they are meeting the relevant standard. Evidence has to be across a range of independent curriculum work, not just in Literacy. Schools assessments will be subject to moderation. Independent writing can include work where the pupil has been able to go back and edit/check for errors and/or improvement. A piece of writing may include evidence of some independent and some supported assessment criteria. e.g. help with complex punctuation.
