I hope that everyone had a safe and relaxing Easter and holiday break. A hard copy of our calendar for this term has been sent home with all students and is also included on our website. Reminders will also be included in the weekly newsletters. I thank all our school community for their understanding and support this week. The school had no power until late Wednesday night and no phones or internet until yesterday afternoon. The school suffered some flood damage with the water a metre over the oval on Wednesday morning. A big thank you to our General Assistants, Adrian and John and to parents Craig Gustard, Greg Crellin and Elise Blomfield who assisted with the cleanup yesterday. Thanks also to the staff who spent yesterday cleaning up. We will be holding our special 100th Anniversary ANZAC Day service today starting at 2.00 pm. All parents are invited to attend this service. On Monday during the day two of our parents, Eddie Furnell and Stephanie Buckle will be coordinating talks and a display of ANZAC items in the library. Our school activities have been supported by the Ourimbah RSL sub branch and in particular its President, Mr David Pankhurst. All students have been involved in a number of activities related to ANZAC Day including poster and colouring in competitions. Winners of these will be announced during the service with books being donated by Ourimbah RSL. On Saturday our students have been invited to participate in the ANZAC Day march at Ourimbah. The march will begin from Yates Road at 2.30 pm. Students are asked to meet at 2.15 pm. It would be great to see a large number of students and parents in attendance to commemorate the 100th anniversary. Students are asked to come in school uniform. They will march behind the school flag. At the conclusion of the march a short service will be held in the COLA area of Ourimbah Public School. Also over the next three Mondays the NRL will be holding coaching sessions with all K-2 classes. Our Peer Support Program begins next Monday. The program will run for eight Mondays and will involve all students in Yrs K-4 being placed in small groups to complete a program of activities led by the Stage 3 students. Over the next two Mondays we will be having visits by the Police Liaison Officer. She will be running sessions with all stages. 1

During the holidays the refurbishment of Bailey Cottage was completed. I thank Steve Graham for his work which was funded from money raised from the P&C s recent Country Fair. For parents of students in Year 4 the applications for Year 5 opportunity class [OC] placement in 2016 opens on Monday 27th April and closes on Friday 15th May. All applications must be made online by going to the following website: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/ocplacement All students seeking Year 5 opportunity class placement in 2016 will be required to take the Opportunity Class Placement Test on Wednesday 22nd July 2015. If you have any questions about the application process please contact me. A big well done and thank you to the following students who represented the school at the ANZAC Day service held in Gosford last Saturday morning. Teighgan McCormack, Kasey Pryor, Saskia Andersen, Zac Andrews, Emily Crellin and Zoe Clarke were involved in the combined school s choir who performed during the service. Thanks also to Mrs Sheather for coordinating our involvement and attending the service. Unfortunately our school chaplain, Lynda Rivers, has had to resign from her position at our school due to other commitments. I would like to thank Lynda for her work with students and families at our school over the last year. I am liaising with the Chaplaincy provider Coast Care about the appointment of a new chaplain. I am hopeful that we will have someone in the position in the next couple of weeks. We have been notified that MacDonalds Road will be closed for approximately five weeks whilst work is undertaken to the water and sewer mains. The road will be closed from The Ridgeway to east of the kiss and drop zone. Road closure will be from 7.00 am 5.00 pm daily.
