Education Management Services (EMS) and Christ University, Bangalore Regional workshops on Dynamics of Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions We are happy to announce that Education Management Services (EMS), in collaboration with Christ University, Bangalore, are organizing a series of Three day workshops on Dynamics of Quality Assurance in Higher Education Institutions for the different regions of the country. All these workshops will be conducted at Christ University, Bangalore during the month of April-May 2009. These workshops are planned to enable the participant institutions to enrich themselves in understanding the quality imperatives of Higher Education and more specifically, the Quality Assurance System in Higher Education Institutions. In addition, the purpose of these workshops is to create awareness among the participant institutions, the significance of their role as Faculty and/or as Administrators in promoting and sustaining a quality culture in their respective institutions. Context Quality improvement in Higher Education is imperative in the context of liberalization, privatization and globalization, in order to sustain itself. It calls for reforms in the management of the entire system of higher education. This will ensure quality of services it provides for ensuring optimum development of the students. Therefore, all higher education institutions need to measure the quality level of inputs, processes and outputs to understand whether they meet the required standards. The inputs of higher education are the students, teachers, the research groups, administrative and support staff, technology, finance and all the learning resources. These inputs are processed by the Higher Education System through effective leadership and management processes. All these put together should create an ambience for effective learning, teaching, research and other co-curricular and outreach programs. The output or the products of the system are graduates, the competencies they have acquired through learning and research and the employment destinations they have reached. All these components or subsystems determine the overall quality of the higher education system. This must be the concern of every one who are associated with the system.
In Quality Assurance of Higher Education, there are four dimensions of accountability: Everyone in the system has a responsibility of maintaining the quality of the input, processes and output. Everyone in the system has a responsibility of enhancing the quality of the output /service. Everyone understands, uses and feels ownership of the system. The management/customer/client regularly checks the validity and viability of the systems for assuring quality. This means that an institution which takes quality assurance seriously emerges as a self critical community of students, Faculty, and Administrative staff together with the head of the Institution, each contributing to and striving for continuous improvement because of the popular demand and the necessity for excellence in education in a competitive world.
