At Rugby, the average class size is 9, maximum 10. examination 25 lessons x 40 minutes per week. Total contact time 16 hours, 40 minutes. Intensive examination at Rugby 30 lessons x 40 minutes per week. Total contact time 20 hours. All students prepare for the Graded Examinations in Spoken English. At, Ascot and Leatherhead, students prepare for the examination at grades 19 (beginner to upper intermediate); at Rugby and, grades 111 (beginner to advanced). These grades are aligned to levels pre A1C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. 2 Education materials Student Book included. Textbooks supplied on loan. 3 Endofcourse certificate with weekly assessments on progress ( certificate sent 1213 weeks after the examination). 4 English School Friends in each class at, Leatherhead and Rugby. 5 Fullday excursions one per week to places of cultural interest: eg. Brighton, Canterbury, London, Cambridge, Oxford (depending on the centre). 6 Afternoon sports and recreation activities six days per week, including one halfday excursion per week (to London each week from, Ascot, Leatherhead and ; to local places of interest such as the National Space Centre, Leicester and Warwick Castle from Rugby). 7 Evening recreation programme seven evenings per week. 8 Full board accommodation English breakfast, lunch and evening meal. At other times or from other airports an individual taxi service can be provided at an additional charge. Airport meals are not provided. Additional Options ACADEMIC Rugby: FCE or IELTS examination Students at Rugby can choose to follow an FCE or IELTS examination course as an alternative to the Intensive examination course. The courses run parallel to the course so that students have the opportunity to join other international students in the Rugby afternoon and evening recreation programme. Maximum class size is 10. 30 lessons x 40 minutes per week. Total contact time 20 hours. Please do not book flights before we have confirmed your place on the course. 2 We check course availability and send you confirmation of registration and an invoice. If you need a visa, we will issue a Letter of Invitation on receipt of required personal information. 3 You pay 400 nonreturnable deposit on confirmation of registration either online, by credit/debit card or by bank transfer. Bank details are on the invoice. All payments must be in pounds sterling. The balance of fees must be received at least six weeks before your arrival. (If you book less than six weeks before arrival, full fees will be required on confirmation of registration.) 4 You send the Transfer Form to us with your flight details no later than five weeks before your arrival. 5 We meet you at London Heathrow airport and transfer you to your chosen centre (or you make your own arrangements if transfer has not been requested). 6 The course begins with a language ability test for placement in class. IELTS examination B1/ G56 100 July 05 July 30 4195 FCE/IELTS students take the appropriate examination at the end of the course. Fees are 120 for the FCE exam / 155 for IELTS. Examination fees are in addition to course fees. AFTERNOON ACADEMIES In addition to the Multiactivity recreation programme, the Academy options give students the opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy personalised tuition from qualified instructors. Each Academy course consists of 3 afternoons per week of 2 or 3 hours per afternoon, depending on the Academy chosen. Each course is externally validated. Terms of Business 2018 1 Deposits and payments 1.1 A deposit of 400 is required on confirmation of registration and the balance of payment must be received at least six weeks before the course begins. Students booking less than six weeks before their arrival must send full payment on confirmation of registration. All payments must be in pounds sterling. 1.2 Payment can be made either online, by credit/debit card or by bank transfer. 1.3 If payment is made by bank transfer, the transfer must be identified by student name and Thames Valley Summer Schools invoice number. All bank transfer charges, including UK bank handling fee ( 15), to be paid by sender. Bank details are on the invoice. 1.4 Thames Valley Summer Schools reserves the right to cancel a registration if fees have not been paid in full. 2 Cancellations, unless replaced by an equivalent booking, will be charged as follows: Six weeks or more before arrival Loss of deposit Less than six weeks before arrival Loss of full fees 3 Health 3.1 Thames Valley Summer Schools accepts students on the assumption that they are in good health. 3.2 It is the responsibility of the student s parents to inform Thames Valley Summer Schools of any particular health or special needs requirements at time of registration. 3.3 Thames Valley Summer Schools appointed nurses/first aiders will administer nonprescribed medicines (such as cold and flu medication, allergy tablets) as necessary, except when advised by parents not to. 3.4 It will depend on each student s eligibility whether or not they are entitled to free medical care and treatment while in the UK at either a doctor s surgery or at a hospital. To obtain further information, please visit the UK s Department of Health s website at www.dh.gov.uk 3.5 If urgent medical treatment is required, Thames Valley Summer Schools shall use all reasonable endeavours to seek the parents consent. However, when this is not possible in the circumstances, the parents authorise Thames Valley Summer Schools to give consent on behalf of the student to receive such medical treatment. 3.6 In the event that the student is taken to hospital, a senior member of staff will accompany the student. If the hospital s advice is that the student is to stay for more than 24 hours, a parent or delegated responsible adult will be required to attend the hospital to take over care of the student from the senior member of staff within 48 hours from the time of admittance. In the event that the senior member of staff is required to stay at the hospital, either at the parent s or delegated responsible adult s request, or because the parent or delegated adult has failed to attend within 48 hours, a charge of 250 per day will be made. This sum will be charged whether a member of staff is required for the full day or part of the day. 3.7 All matters concerning student welfare should be referred to Thames Valley Summer Schools Windsor office and not directly to the course centre. 4 Arrival and departure Students must arrive and depart on published course dates. Latest checkout from centres on departure days is 14.30. 5 Flight details Optional transfers are available from/to London Heathrow airport at additional cost. Arrival and departure flight details are required in writing at least five weeks before course commencement. Thames Valley Summer Schools cannot guarantee to arrange transfers if details are received later than this. Transfers arranged within 7 days of arrival will incur an additional 100 arrangement fee. 6 Spending money and clothes 6.1 Students are advised to arrive with enough English money for the first day in this country. 75 a week spending money is suggested, although this may vary according to the individual. Students are advised to deposit their money, passport and airline ticket with Thames Valley Summer Schools for safekeeping. responsibility can be accepted by Thames Valley Summer Schools for losses occuring as a result of ignoring this advice. 6.2 The English climate is famous for its unpredictability and Thames Valley Summer Schools recommends that students bring some warm, waterproof clothing as well as light summer wear. 7 Bad behaviour 7.1 Thames Valley Summer Schools reserves the right to permanently exclude a student on any of the following grounds: (a) if following disciplinary action by Thames Valley Summer Schools, the student continues to be abusive, aggressive, violent or threatening (both verbally and physically); or (b) in the reasonable opinion of Thames Valley Summer Schools, the student s behaviour is putting at risk the wellbeing of the other pupils, staff or himself/herself. 7.2 If a student is permanently excluded then the parents will be notified in writing. 7.3 If parents have not made arrangements for the removal of the student within 48 hours of notification of expulsion Thames Valley Summer Schools reserves the right to place the student with a guardian family which has been assessed by Thames Valley Summer Schools (in its discretion) as suitable for children and which has DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance, and whose contact details will be given to parents. 7.4 The parents shall be responsible for costs, charges and expenses incurred as a result of such expulsion including, but not limited to, any additional care, accommodation and transport. Fees are not refundable if the student is excluded. 8 Liability 8.1 Thames Valley Summer Schools shall not accept liability for any loss or damage to any property of the student, or any loss, delay or inconvenience in respect of a person in Thames Valley Summer Schools care, provided that Thames Valley Summer Schools and its Agents shall have exercised all reasonable care and diligence in the exercise of its obligations under these Terms of Business. 8.2 thing within these Terms of Business excludes or limits the liability of Thames Valley Summer Schools for death or personal injury caused by Thames Valley Summer Schools. 9 Insurance Thames Valley Summer Schools strongly advises that all students attending courses are insured against cancellation, accident, illness, loss of personal property and damage to third party property. Students are responsible for any damage caused to property during their stay. 10 Miscellaneous 10.1 Parents/students are responsible for ensuring that all permits, visas and any other applicable documentation (including but not limited to passports) are valid and up to date. 10.2 As part of participation on a Thames Valley Summer School course, students shall have the option of taking part in various sporting activities. If there are any particular sports that parents do not wish their child to take part in they must inform Thames Valley Summer Schools in writing. 11 Copyright It is normal practice for films and/or photographs to be taken during Thames Valley Summer Schools courses by us and the students, with the possibility of such films and/or photographs being used in future promotional material for Thames Valley Summer Schools. We therefore would firmly request that any parent who wishes to object to their child having a photograph taken or a film with their child in it for the purposes of promotional material, or any student who objects to any promotional material with themselves in it, inform Thames Valley Summer Schools in writing immediately. Parents and students must also be advised that some of the photography and film may be shared with third parties such as agents or other schools. If parents or students object to any photographs or film with that particular student in, then they must inform Thames Valley Summer Schools immediately in writing. 12 Amendments Thames Valley Summer Schools reserves the right to make changes to arrangements that may prove necessary. However Thames Valley Summer Schools will endeavour to notify any significant changes in writing as early as possible. In the case of cancellation of a course, Thames Valley Summer Schools will use all reasonable endeavours to provide a comparable replacement. In case of nonacceptance or no suitable alternative course being available, the booking will become invalid and all monies received returnable to the client. 13 Statutory Rights This Agreement is governed by and shall be construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
