Just a reminder that all children will be bussed to Santos Stadium and permission slips are due back tomorrow. Children can wear their normal sports uniform or they can wear a plain t-shirt in their house colour. School hats are compulsory. Please apply sunscreen to your child before school and children wanting to put coloured hairspray in their hair need to do this before arriving at school as well. Permission slips were sent home last week and spares copies are available from the office or the school s website. This is always a wonderful community event and I encourage all those who can, to come along. SUMMER UNIFORM As we are transitioning into the warmer weather, summer uniform may once again be worn as of tomorrow. Please ensure that plain black shoes are worn with the summer uniform. The shoes may be sneakers, but they must be all black. It is expected that all students wear the correct uniform at all times. Commencing next term, uniform reminder notices will go home with students not in correct uniform. Thank you for your co-operation. CATHOLIC SCHOOL S MUSIC FESTIVAL On Tuesday evening, our year five choir joined 800 other primary school students from Catholic schools to form the Festival Choir as part of the Catholic Schools Music Festival. This year, the event was held at the Entertainment Centre over two evenings. The choir was joined on stage by a host of acts from Catholic Secondary and Primary Schools. The showcasing of talent on the evening is testimony to the high quality programs run in the state s Catholic schools. Congratulations to the boys and girls from Stella Maris who performed on the night and a big thank you to our school s choir trainer, Mrs Lainio, who ensured the children were well prepared for the performance. Well done boys and girls, it was an evening to remember. THANK YOU I would like to say a big thank you to all those who make Stella Maris the school it is. Today is World Gratitude Day an opportune time for us to say thanks to those who help and support us. Your Sincerely, 1 Syme Ave, Seacombe Gardens SA 5047 Phone: 8296 3928 Fax: 8377 2232 contact@smps.catholic.edu.au www.smps.catholic.edu.au facebook.com/stellamarisparishschool Sean Hill PRINCIPAL

Page 2 Term 3 Week 9 21 September 2017 RE News Catholic Charities The month of September is dedicated to fundraising for Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Adelaide. Schools are encouraged to have fundraising events for important charities in the local Adelaide area. Today you will receive a brochure outlining the charities that are supported by the Catholic Charities appeal. We will be having a Catholic Charities fundraising day on the first Thursday back next term-it will be in October but due to a crowded calendar in September we have decided to hold it then. Children will be involved in setting up little stalls to either sell things they have made, play a game they have set up or food items. It is advisable to send the children with no more than $5 in coins, if possible in a snaplock bag with their name on it-particularly for the younger students. Community prayer will have focus on Catholic Charities too and the stalls will take place from 11.15am until around 12.15pm. You are most welcome to come along and help on the stalls or just join in the fun! Term 4 Swimming The swimming dates for term four are: Week 6 (20 24 November). Years 4 & 5 will be doing Surf Ed at Somerton Surf Life Saving Club and Reception to year 3s will be doing swimming at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre. Full details will be sent home early next term. Our Newsletter is paperless Instructions to subscribe to the newsletter online: 1. Go to our website www.smps.catholic.edu.au 2. Click on the news and events tab. 3. Click on newsletter. 4. Click on newsletter subscription, enter details and click on the submit button. Paper copies are available from the office. Library News Please return all library books by Monday morning. Thank you. P&F News School Disco Friday October 27 Children s Liturgy Every week at 9.15am Sunday Mass at Holy Spirit Church, children can be involved in the children s liturgy. This involves the children processing out of the Church into the hall with 2 adult leaders who look at the Gospel of the day in a child friendly way, usually with a hands on activity. The children return to the main body of the Church at the Offertory procession. This helps the children to gain a better understanding of the Gospel stories in a child friendly environment and also helps you as an adult to engage in the Mass without the distraction of youngsters. If you would like more information please come and see me. Regards and blessings, Cathy Tilley Assistant Principal From the Bursar If you are not on a payment schedule and have not fully paid for the year your fees are now overdue.
