ACADEMY OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME Developing Leadership in Practice (DLiP ) THE PROGRAMME FOR NEW AND ASPIRING PARTNERS

DLiP is as much about understanding yourself as it is about being a successful partner and good leader. It focuses on playing to your strengths. Richard Dade, Associate Partner, Hazlewoods LLP There are few professional transformations quite as psychologically complex as the transformation to partner. You need a new and different professional identity to lead with confidence and credibility, and redefine your position in the firm and how you can contribute. That s where DLiP comes in. 5 month programme 8 opportunities to learn and engage with your new networks The DLiP programme has been specifically designed by experts in practice, to help professionals develop, project and hone the leadership qualities expected of a new or aspiring partner. TRANSFORMATIVE BENEFITS Gain insight on the role of a partner and leadership skills required both broadly, and specifically, within your firm. Shift your mindset from being a professional to a commercially confident leader. Learn to generate new ideas and perspectives, then apply them strategically. Build the vital skillset how to drive strategic growth, attract and retain new clients, and meet challenges head-on. DLiP is a five-month programme. With four stimulating workshops, supported by world-class facilitators. Four one-on-one coaching sessions with acute, insightful coaching. Giving you the time and space to focus, reflect, and practise. You will develop a confident commercial mindset. Gain vital leadership skills. And return to your firm ready to make a significant strategic impact. WHY DLiP? Gives you a rigorous combination of tools including exercises, group discussions and case studies. An emphasis not just on learning theory but on applying key skills usefully and practically. Learning from peers in a collaborative and supportive environment, through exchange of ideas and benchmarking yourself against others who share similar goals. Coaching from industry experts and leaders with plenty of eye-opening stories to share. 2 3

DEVELOPING NETWORK LEADERSHIP OF FINANCIAL PRACTICE LEADERS (DLiP (NFL) ) The DLiP programme provides you with a real understanding of what is required to make the successful transition from senior employee to partner. All of the delegates on the programme were at similar stages in their careers and it was quite reassuring to know that there are others out there facing the same challenges associated with progression. The real value with the course was sharing thoughts with others, to hear of their experiences and the challenges that they had faced. I feel that I got a lot out of the course as it has provided me with the tools to develop further in the partner role. Steve Watson Partner, Harris+Co DLiP Alumnus The holistic approach DLiP is run by highly knowledgeable and multi-talented facilitators, all of whom are chartered accountants and have many years of experience developing leaders in firms of all sizes. The facilitators use a coaching style that allows you to learn effectively through sharing and exploration, developing your own personal solutions. You also get the exclusive opportunity to develop your network with like-minded peers from other organisations. DLiP IS LIKE NO OTHER LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME 180-DAY PLAN You make clear commitments to yourself and your firm, about what you will do in the next six months. Which, importantly, does not only include your activities, focus and priorities, but also what behaviours you will change/introduce in that timeframe and what strategic impact you will have on the business. You will present your 180-day plan to the rest of the group at the end of Workshop 4 and then return to work to present it to your sponsor partner(s). COACHING Get coached by our highly experienced facilitators, to consult with, and challenge you in complete confidence and with reflective insight. The one-to-one coaching will enable you to get a vital edge, make better-informed decisions and get pushed beyond your own expectations. We had been searching for some time for a suitable leadership development programme for new/potential partners the type of course that large firms typically offer in-house. The DLiP programme offered by the ICAEW Academy ticked all the boxes. DLiP is specifically tailored to leadership development for new partners in practice and its practical case-study model, coupled with sharing of experiences and dedicated support between modules is ideally suited to independent firms. Paul Hinchliffe Partner, Harris+Co DLiP Sponsor REVIEW PEER LEARNING AND ALUMNI NETWORK Share knowledge, experiences and practical insights with peers. Explore new, diverse approaches to problem-solving, critical thinking and action planning. Join an immense network of professional contacts. Continue sharing ideas and information long after your programme is complete. PLAN DLiP DO MBTI (MYERS BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR) Gain deep, constructive insight into yourself: how you take in information; make decisions; adapt your behaviour in different environments and see how to effectively apply your results to improve your performance. Your facilitator will spend time making sure you understand the meaning of your MBTI results, and you will have input into verifying their accuracy. 4 5

Programme structure DLiP is structured so that participants can go back to their firms and put their new tools and techniques into practice, to refine and embed them before embarking on the next workshop. Held at approximately four-week intervals, each one-day workshop incorporates practical exercises, group discussions and case studies with the emphasis on the application of key skills. In addition, delegates benefit from one-to-one coaching calls with facilitators throughout the programme. PRE-WORK AND HOMEWORK: BUILDING AND REINFORCING CAPABILITY Before the programme starts and with input from their sponsors, delegates construct a set of objectives and a personal 180-day plan. This helps focus effort and provides a benchmark against which to measure progress. The 180-day plan is developed and refined throughout DLiP, before being presented to the group and sponsor(s) at the end of the programme.
