ANTI RAGGING Ragging is a social evil and criminal offence under provisions of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and students should not indulge in any form of ragging in or out side the campus. Ragging constitutes one or more of any of the following acts: Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other students. Indulging in rowdy or indisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student. Asking any student to do any act in which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher. Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or other students. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd act, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, various or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student. Any act that affects the mental health and self- confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher or any other student. Punishable ingredients of Ragging: Abetment to ragging Criminal conspiracy to rag Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging Public nuisance created during ragging Violation of decency and morals through ragging Injury to body, causing hurt or grievous hurt Wrongful restraint Wrongful confinement Use of criminal force Assault as well as sexual offences or even unnatural offences Extortion Criminal trespass

Offences against property Criminal intimidation Attempts to commit any or all of the above mentioned offences against the victim (s) Physical or psychological humiliation All other offences following from the definition or Ragging. Measures for prevention of ragging: Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Ragging Committee of the institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall be any one or combination of the following: Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges. Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other evaluation process Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process. Withholding results Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc. Suspension/expulsion from the hostel. Cancellation of admission Rustication from the institution for period ranging from 1 to 4 semesters Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specific period. Fine of Rs.25000/- and Rs.1 lakh. Collective punishment: When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment.

Ragging within or outside any educational institution is prohibited Ragging means doing an Act which or is likely to cause insult or annoyance or fear or apprehension or threat or intimidation or outrage of modesty or injury to a student. NATURE OF RAGGING Teasing, embarrassing or forcing or criminally intimidating a student. Assaulting or using criminal force or criminally intimidating a student. Wrongfully restraining or confining or causing hurt to a student. Causing hurt to or kidnapping or raping or committing unnatural offence upon a student. Causing death or abetting suicide. NATURE OF PUNISHMENT Imprisonment up to 6 months or fine up to Rs. 1,000/- or both. Imprisonment up to 1 year or fine up to Rs. 2,000/- or both. Imprisonment up to 2 years or fine up to Rs. 5,000/- or both. Imprisonment up to 5 years and fine up to Rs. 10,000/- Imprisonment up to 10 years and fine up to Rs. 50,000/- o Action taken plan & Photos Displayed The following Anti-ragging measures are implemented in Drs. Sudha & Nageswara Rao Siddhartha Institute of Dental Sciences. Drs. Sudha & Nageswara Rao Siddhartha Institute of Dental Sciences, received the copy of order dated 11-02-2009 passed by the Honorable Supreme Court of India in Civil Appeal No. 887/2009 for perusal and compiled the direction contained their in including para 27 with strict implementation and enforcement. Also the instructions by University Grants Commission are also implemented. The following anti- ragging measures are implemented in our College: Anti-ragging committee and vigilance(anti-ragging) Squad which include staff, and students including girls have been constituted. Their contact phone numbers including principal s are displayed in the college common rooms, class rooms, library, hostels, mess, in each room of the hostels and on notice boards. Regular and surprise visits of anti-ragging squad is done both in the college and hostels. Full time deputy wardens are working in boys and girls hostels to oversee the prevention of ragging in any form in the hostels. Separate block is allotted for fresher s as to minimize mingling with the senior students in hostels. Counselling of senior batches of students is done by senior faculty with the nature of punishment for each act of ragging. Identify the raggers in the institution. Measures against raggers are displayed in the campus. Concerted action to be proposed against the culprits(raggers). To involve the media and civil society in the exercise. Yoga and Meditation classes to seniors and juniors are conducted, so that they become more "Satwik" in their approach. Already conducted basic course in "The Art of Living & Sudarshan Kriya" and the results are excellent.

Banners of punishments deterrent to the raggers are displayed at the entrance of the the college and hospital, all the nine departments(clinical and non clinical), all the lecture halls, library and hostels in the campus for boys and girls. Form of undertaking by each and every student and their parent/guardian, informing them of the punishment for ragging have been taken along with parents declaration. Distributing pamphlets which are having information of punishment of ragging. Conducting meeting among seniors and explaining about the problems of ragging and trying to prepare them against ragging. During college hours regular supervision by the anti-ragging committee members, faculty and ministerial staff in the campus. Wardens in the hostel keep any eye on senior students and warn them against ragging. Consultant psychiatrist is appointed to give counselling to deal with psychological aspects of ragging. The Government of India started a toll free anti-ragging help line to work around the clock No. 1800-108-5522 and it works as a deterrent to an act of ragging. Mentors or counselors: Twenty doctors are selected from the teaching staff and each given five freshers and they are the counselors through out BDS Course to counsel students regarding anti-ragging; health problems and academic progress and maintain record of each student. C.C.T.V.s are placed to locate vulnerable points to keep watch of ragging incidents. Fresher s day is being organized as early as possible to stop the menace of ragging.
