Introduction Workshop part of the 3-day event to celebrate the United Nations Public Service Day and Awards 2010: The Role of Public Service in Achieving the Millennium Development Goals: Challenges and Best Practices, co-organized by UNDESA and Government of Catalonia. Workshop on Engaging Citizens in Development Management and Public Governance for the Achievement of the MDGs in a Nutshell Address policies, strategies, practices and tools for public administrations to promote citizens engagement in development management to achieve the MDGs. Exchange experiences, best practices and lessons learnt on the ways to enhance citizens engagement in policy making and public service delivery. Presentations by key citizens' engagement experts and open and group discussions with all participants on innovative approaches, methodologies and tools for citizens engagement in development management. Networking among participants contributing to global knowledge sharing, including through an online Public Administration Knowledge Space (PAKS) developed by the Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM/UNDESA). Key findings of the workshop deliberations will be reflected in the Barcelona Communique Focus on Ways Forward Project funding and research proposals Beginning of a continuous process

Presentations by the Winners of the UN Public Service Awards 2010 From Thought to Practice, Getting Things Done: New Initiatives on Promoting ICT-Based Citizens Engagement Each session consists of presentations and open discussion *Same overall themes for all three workshops and the Expert Group Meeting
Working Groups and Barcelona Declaration At the end of the second Workshop day all participants split into three separate working groups on the themes of the Sessions I,II and III Each group to appoint a Chairperson and rapporteur Each Working Group to formulate recommendations on Ways Forward on their topic for the joint Barcelona Declaration, presented during the UNPSA Awards Ceremony Chairperson of each Working Group to meet with the recommendations drafting committee after the Workshop ends on Tuesday Important: Fill in the Working Group selection form
