AQA English This is being taken by all Key Stage 4 students. It is a combined English Language and Literature course. It results in TWO English GCSE grades in Summer 2019. GCSE English Language GCSE English Literature Your child will have a separate teacher for each GCSE. It consists only of Terminal Examinations No tier of entry every student sits the same exam! AQA English Language Paper 1: 1 hour 45 mins 80 marks 50% of the GCSE Section A (40 marks) One single literature fiction text 4 questions of varying length and difficulty Section B (40 marks) 1 extended writing question: creative writing Paper 2: 1 hour 45 mins 80 marks 50% of the GCSE Section A (40 marks) Two linked texts 4 questions of varying length and difficulty Section B (40 marks) 1 extended writing question: persuasive writing
AQA English Literature Paper 1: 1 hour 45 mins 64 marks 40% of the GCSE Section A (30 marks) Students will respond to an extract from Macbeth and link it to the play as whole. Section B (30 marks) Students will respond to an extract from Jekyll and Hyde and link it to the novel as whole. Paper 2: 2 hours 15 mins 96 marks 60% of the GCSE Section A (30 marks) 1 essay question on either Lord of the Flies or An Inspector Calls. Section B (30 marks) Comparison essay on two poems from the Love and Relationships cluster. Section C (32 marks) Two questions on unseen poetry

BBC GCSE Bitesize (Great for revising lots of information, revision and tests) GCSE POD (Superb, high level, free podcasts on all texts studies and skills covered. Purchase the revision books through parent-pay.
Maths Subject overview Split in to 5 key areas. Number Algebra Ratio and Proportion Geometry and Measure Probability and Statistics In addition, the 9 1 GCSE demands Better reading and comprehension skills The ability to recall most formulae Extended problem solving skills A greater focus on the ability to interpret and communicate mathematically.
Edexcel Maths How is it assessed? Edexcel Linear Maths. Two tiers Higher Grade 9 3 Foundation Grade 5 - U 100% Examination. 3 x 1½ hour papers. 1 x Non-calculator and 2 x Calculator sat at the end of year 11
Edexcel Maths What can parents / students do to ensure success? To get better at Maths, they need to be doing Maths! There is always work that can be done. Students must be equipped for ALL lessons. Encourage homework to be FULLY completed. Email class teacher if there are concerns.
