Admissions Policy Student requirements to enter Archbishop MacDonald High School & the H/ IB-MYP Programmes ( Grade 10) Entrance into H/IB-MYP Programme at Entrance into French Immersion Programme at Minimum of 75% in each of the following Grade 9 Subjects: Religious Studies Language Arts Mathematics Social Studies Science *Marks in these subjects are NOT averaged but a per course minimum of 75% Minimum of 65% with no final grade less than 60% in any of the following courses: English Language Arts 9 Études Sociales 9 French Language Arts 9 Mathématiques 9 Religion 9 Sciences 9

Grade 10 IB-MYP Programming: Grade 10 H/ IB-MYP Programmes: Grade 10 students have 3 IB-MYP Enrollment Options: Full IB- MYP H/IB- MYP Course French Immersion Candidates Candidates Candidates All Students will be enrolled in some of our grade 10 H/IB-MYP courses. This includes Alberta Learning Curriculum using IB-MYP Standards Amalgamation of IB global contexts, key concepts and related key concepts into the Alberta Program of Studies. The Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning become integral to better understanding curriculum objectives. Students are assessed using Alberta Learning Curriculum that incorporates MYP criterion. This prepares students for the possibility of entering the IB Diploma Programme in their Grade 11 year.

Full IB-MYP Candidates (Grade 10): Full IB-MYP Candidates A Full IB-MYP Candidate is a student who completes year 5 of the IB-MYP programme coming from their Junior High IB- MYP Programme. The student must complete the full complement of H/IB-MYP Courses (8) and conclude with the Personal Project. Full IB- MYP Candidate Course Load (Total 8 Full Blocks) English 10-1 H/IB MYP Second Language 10-1 H/IB- MYP (French B, Spanish ab initio) Social Studies 10-1 H/ IB MYP Science 10-1 H/ IB MYP Math 10-Combined H/ IB- MYP Physical Education 10 Wellness H/ IB- MYP Design Studies 10 H/ IB- MYP Religious Studies 15 MYP Personal Project Advantages of the Full IB-MYP Programme Expand academic potential in all subject areas. Receive the unique H/IB-MYP Approaches to Learning, Key and Related Concepts as well as Global Contexts that allow for inter curricular connections. Work on their personal projects through PLT sessions as well as a ONE DAY workshop during exam break. Become familiar with IB Diploma classes through exposure to command terms and IB Diploma assessments. Become better prepared for the IB Diploma through the completion of the Personal Project. Receive and MYP certificate as well as an MYP final report card. Receive 5 credits for the completion of the Personal Project. MYP Explorer award recipient will be honoured. IB Gala showcasing Personal Projects. Mentoring Grade 9 students who have chosen to complete their MYP certificate.

H/IB-MYP Course Candidates (Grade 10): H/ IB MYP Course Candidates An H/IB-MYP Course Candidate is a student who takes H/IB-MYP courses but has not completed year 1-4 in their respective junior high. These students include all of our Grade 10 students who are not a full IB-MYP candidate. H/ IB-MYP Course Candidate Load (Total 8 Full Blocks) Mandatory Courses: English 10-1 H/IB MYP Social Studies 10-1 H/ IB MYP Science 10-1 H/ IB MYP Math 10-Combined H/ IB- MYP Physical Education 10 Wellness H/ IB- MYP Religious Studies Students will need to select additional courses which may be part of the H/IB-MYP course offerings at the grade 10 level. The following are H/IB-MYP options possible: Second Language 10-1 H/IB- MYP (French B, Spanish ab initio) Computing Science 10 H/ IB- MYP Art 10 H/ IB MYP Computer Technology 10 H/ IB- MYP Design Studies 10 H/ IB- MYP Drama 10 H/ IB-MYP Instrumental Music 10 H/ IB-MYP Benefits of the H/ IB-MYP Course Programme Expand academic potential in all subject areas. French Immersion Candidates (Grade 10): Grade 10 French Immersion Candidates Full academic bilingual program with opportunities for exposure to IB-MYP Standards. Grade 10 French Immersion Course Load (8 Full Blocks) Students Must take the following French Immersion Courses at the Grade 10 level: FLA 10-1H Études Sociales 10-1 Mathématiques 10C Sciences 10 Additionally students must take: English 10-1 H/IB MYP Physical Education 10 Wellness H/ IB- MYP Students will need to select additional courses which may be part of the H/IB-MYP course offerings at the grade 10 level. The following are H/IB-MYP options possible: Second Language 10-1 H/IB- MYP (Spanish ab initio) Computing Science 10 H/ IB- MYP Art 10 H/ IB MYP Computer Technology 10 H/ IB- MYP Design Studies 10 H/ IB- MYP Drama 10 H/ IB-MYP Instrumental Music 10 H/ IB-MYP Advantages of the French Immersion Programme The continuation of French Immersion at the high school level benefits the students for post-secondary and lifelong opportunities. At MAC our French Immersion students are exposed to a variety of learning experiences nationally and internationally through video conferences with the Centre for Global Education. Our French Immersion students are proud to share their bilingualism skills and French culture globally and within our MAC community.

Full IB Diploma Candidate ( Grades 11 & 12) A student who takes the full complement of IB DP Programme courses. The full IB DP Programme allows students the following: expand academic potential (depth and breadth) in all subject areas recognized as university level study nationally and internationally. receive the unique IB DP approaches to learning and teaching that allow for intercurricular connections reap the full benefit of balanced skill development with the additional IB DP core courses. Possibility of IB DP Scholarships both at the school level and university level, Awards and University Transfer Credit in multiple subjects. Minimum of 80% advised plus a teacher s recommendation for the pre-requisite grade 10 course. The IB Diploma Programme ( DP) is a unique 2 year ( Grade 11 & 12) educational choice for students; it focuses on: A rigorous academic programme that prepares students for university level studies and life by increasing the breadth and depth of content and skills instructed and learned. 2 IB Diploma Programme Options IB Diploma Course Candidate ( Grades 11 & 12) A student who takes 1 or more IB DP courses but does not enroll in the full IB DP Programme. Benefits of Each IBDP Programme The IB DP courses allow students the following: explore with greater depth and breadth select subjects recognized as university level subject specific study nationally and internationally. Possibility of IB subject University Transfer Credit.

Course Loads for each IB Diploma Programme Option Full IB Diploma Candidates IB Subject Courses A full IB Diploma Candidate must take a minimum of 1 course from groups 1 5 + 1 additional course from groups 2, 4 or 6. When selecting subjects a full IB candidate must ensure that a minimum of 3 of their subjects are Higher Level (HL), the remainder may be Standard Level ( SL) Subject Goups: Group 1: English A- Literature (HL) IB Group 2: Second Languages, a choice of: French B ( HL or SL) IB Spanish ab initio ( SL) IB Group 3: History (HL) = Social Studies IB Group 4: Sciences, a choice of: Biology (HL) IB OR Physics (HL) IB Chemistry (SL) IB Group 5: Mathematics ( SL) Group 6: The Arts, a choice of: Theatre Arts (HL or SL) = Drama IB Visual Arts ( HL or SL) = Art IB Music ( HL or SL) = Music IB IB Core Courses A full IB Candidate must take the 3 core courses.
