P a g e 2 KERALA VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) came into existence on 14 th June, 2010 as per Ordinance No.44/2010 and later Act 3/2011 of the Government of Kerala. The establishment of the University was the result of the recognition of the need to advance animal production sector activities. KVASU now under takes academic, research, extension and entrepreneurship activities in animal production and dairy sector FACULTIES Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University has three faculties, viz. Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science, Faculty of Dairy Science and Faculty of Poultry Science. CONSTITUENT COLLEGES The University has five constituent colleges: 1. Colleges of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur 2. College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, Wayanad 3. College of Diary Science and Technology, Mannuthy, Thrissur 4. College of Diary Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram 5. College of Avian Sciences and Management, Thiruvazhamkunnu, Palakkad Each of these colleges undertakes academic, research and extension activities in the areas assigned to them. The University owns about 1000 acres of landed assets and is planning to acquire some more for its developmental needs. College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy came into existence in 1955 as the Government Veterinary College, to train sufficient veterinary professionals for Kerala State. Subsequently, the college was renamed as Kerala Veterinary College and Research Institute in 1961 and as College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in 1972, when it became a constituent faculty affiliated to Kerala Agricultural University. Subsequent to the formation of KVASU, it became a constituent college of the new University. The College is located about 7 km east of Thrissur town, on the Thrissur-Palakkad stretch of National Highway-47, in a campus spreading over an area of 400 acres. P a g e 3 district. The headquarters of the newly formed Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is also being located in this campus. Wayanad hills, contiguous to the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu and Bandhipur in Karnataka, are known for its evergreen forests, plantations, wildlife, mist clad mountains and valleys. During summer the temperature goes up to a maximum of 35 C and during winter the temperature goes down to a minimum of 15 C. The college was established in the district of Wayanad with a vision to disseminate technical knowledge to the rural farmers via technology innovation for the uplift of the northern backward districts and for working in the area of Conservation and maintenance of indigenous/exotic breeds of livestock and poultry in the agro-climatic conditions of Wayanad. The University plans to develop the Pookode campus as a primary research and development centre in Animal Sciences. Tech (Dairy Science and Technology). The college is located at Mannuthy, Thrissur on the side of NH-47. Campus recruitment programmes for B. Tech (Dairy Science and Technology) graduates are conducted by famous dairy institutions every year. The graduates are also absorbed as Dairy Extension Officers in the Department of Dairy Development in the Government of Kerala. P a g e 6 M.Tech. PROGRAMMES 2014 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University offers M.Tech. Programme M.Tech.(Dairy Technology)for the academic year 2014-15. The programme comprises four semesters with an intake capacity of five students. The admission to Tech. course is through an entrance examination and interview conducted by the University. Eligibility : B.Tech (Dairy Science and Technology) or B.Tech. (Dairy Technology).(Students waiting for the result can also apply. They should produce attested copy of the final year mark list on or before 15.07.2014) Duration : Two Year (Four Semesters) No. of seats : 5 (1 seat reserved for ICAR candidates and 1 seat reserved for residency programme) Campus : College of Dairy Science and Technology, Mannuthy, Thrissur Senior Residency Programme In addition to the existing regular M.Tech programme, University introduces residency system for M.Tech programmes from this academic year onwards. One seat is reserved for this new innovative programme. The selection for Residency programme will be done based on option and merit of the candidate. The details and the conditions of the Residency programme is furnished in Annexure. KVASU ASSISTANTSHIP/ SCHOLARSHIP A fixed number of candidates admitted for M.Tech. Programmes are eligible for Assistantship at the rate of Rs. 10,000/- per month.candidates for Assistantship are selected from the rank list prepared for this purpose. All the students admitted for M.Tech are eligible to get a scholarship amount of Rs. 4000/- per month. Candidates who are awarded any other fellowship/scholarship will not be eligible for the above benefits. The candidates on deputation are also not eligible for these benefits. The assistantships are intended for candidates planning a research/teaching career and shall be awarded only in such deserving cases. ASSISTANTSHIP FOR M.Tech PROGRAMMES (RESIDENCY) M.Tech. cum Residency Programme will be introduced from the Academic year 2014-15 onwards. The students will be paid fellowship at the following consolidated rates.

P a g e 7 First year (1 st and 2 nd semester) Rs. 20,000/- per month Second year (3 rd and 4 th semester) Rs. 25,000/-per month Third year( 5 th and 6 th semester) Rs. 30,000/-per month Fourth year Rs. 35,000/-per month Fifth year (Optional) Rs. 40,000/- per month University offers Laptop to all candidates who take admission for M.Tech. Programme. RESERVATION OF SEATS AND ADMISSION FOR SPONSORED CANDIDATES 25% of the seats shall be reserved for the eligible candidates sponsored by the ICAR based on All India Entrance Examination to be conducted by them. At the time of admission, the candidate should remit the fee for application form and registration and submit the filled in application to the University. SYSTEM OF TEACHING AND EVALUATION Semester system of instruction and internal/external evaluation will be followed. HOW TO APPLY All candidates, seeking admission for M.Tech should submit their applications on-line. Candidate should fill the online application form available in University website www.kvasu.ac.in, uploading his/her passport size color photograph (150WX200H pixels) and signature (250WX90H pixels). The size of photograph and signature shall not exceed 30 kb. Thereafter the candidate should make the remittance of the application fee in any of the methods, furnished below. Making payment at Federal bank branches through chalan:- Submit the application filling the details in application form. When the application is submitted, a chalan in triplicate (with student copy, bank copy and University copy) will be automatically generated. Take the printout of the chalan and remit Rs.1,020/- as the application fee and bank processing charges in case of General Category, and Rs. 520/- in the case of SC/ST (Native of Kerala origin) using the chalan at the nearest Federal Bank counter. Through credit card/debit card/internet banking:- Remit the fee at the time of submission of the application form through online payment mode using credit card/debit card/internet banking. The candidate should remit Rs.1,020/- as the application fee and bank processing

P a g e 8 charges in case of General Category and Rs. 520/- in the case of SC/ST (Native of Kerala origin). Documents to be enclosed with the application University copy of the chalan, if the remittance of the application fee is made by the chalan Community Certificate obtained from a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Village Officer in the case of SC/ST candidates (Native of Kerala origin) A Non Objection Certificate and experience certificate obtained from the controlling officer concerned in the case of in-service candidates. Attested copies of certificates in proof of age, qualifications, mark list of qualifying examination, experience, sports activities. Attested copy of nativity certificate in the case of candidates from outside Kerala Attested copies of the certificates with regard to extra-curricular activities Attested copies of Experience certificate, if any Attested copy of certificates in support of any other reservation/claims made in the application. Incomplete applications and the application not enclosed with requisite documents will be summarily rejected. Points to be noted 1. Application will be received only through online. Hardcopy of the application after putting signature in the space provided should be sent to the University Headquarters. 2. Hardcopy of the application shall be enclosed with University copy of the chalan, if the payment of application fee is made through chalan. 3. Attested copies of the certificates mentioned above. 4. Separate application is to be submitted if the candidate wants to apply for more than one course. PENALTY FOR FALSE INFORMATION Any candidate who is found to have willfully or otherwise given any particulars which are false or has suppressed material information or does not satisfy the requisite qualification for admission shall be disqualified. They shall not be allowed to continue on the rolls of the University, if it is detected at any stage of his/her studentship in the

P a g e 9 University. ADMISSION TO FOREIGN STUDENTS Details in connection with the admission of foreign students have been notified in the University site separately. SELECTION As a part of selection procedure there will be a separate entrance examination and interview. Entrance examination will be of one hour duration consisting of multiple choice questions. Selection shall be done on the basis of the OGPA in the qualifying exam, score in the entrance exam, experience, interview and the extracurricular activities of the candidate. Candidates will be considered for admission only if they secure a minimum of 40% marks in the entrance examination. The minimum is 30% for SC/ST candidates. As ordered in G.O. MS 285/72/HD dated 6.1.1972, 10% of the total intake capacity will be reserved for SC/ST. Fractions of half or more than half in the actual working out of the percentage will be rounded off to one. List of communities to be considered under SC/ST will be as per the list approved by the Government of Kerala. REJECTION OF APPLICATION AND DISQUALIFICATION OF CANDIDATES Applications received late or defective or incomplete in any manner or which do not contain any of the enclosures specified above are liable to be summarily rejected. Applicants who attempt to canvas or influence the members of the Selection Committee directly or otherwise will be disqualified. TEST AND INTERVIEW The candidate should download the admit card from University website from 06.07.2014 onwards using User ID and password. The University will not send admit card to any candidates by post. Entrance examination and Interview will be conducted at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur, Kerala on the days as mentioned in the schedule furnished below. It may be noted that for all those who applied for the course, Hall tickets shall be issued. On detailed scrutiny, the applications with discrepancies or not satisfying the criterion, if any found, shall be rejected. The issue of hall ticket for appearing in the examination will not, in any way, entitle for any claim for the selection even if he/she passes the entrance examination or has been called/appeared for interview. If it is found that the candidates are not fulfilling any of the essential eligibility, the candidature will be cancelled at any stage of selection process and no appeal against such cancellation will be entertained.

P a g e 10 Candidates will be required to attend (at their own expense) the test and interview at the place and time to be notified. Candidates coming after commencement of the examination will not be permitted to write the examination. Similarly candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination hall in the middle of the examination. The originals of all certificates and documents should be produced at the time of the interview and at the time of admission. Those who do not produce the original documents at the time of admission/interview, shall forfeit their seat and the seats will be filled from the waiting list or in any other manner deemed fit by the University. Candidates selected will be admitted to the course, provided they pay the prescribed fees in full on the due dates fixed. Candidates opted residency programme while filling the application form will be considered for Residency programme at the time of counselling. In the case of those candidates selected for admission who have not paid the fees in time and not joined the course on the date fixed, their claims for admission will be cancelled without notice and the seat thus becoming vacant will be filled up with eligible candidates, if any, from the rank/ waiting list. Candidates in Government service/university service are expected to make their own arrangements to get relieved from their posts in time. Candidates should produce the original certificates in proof of age, qualifications, TC, Conduct certificate, medical fitness certificate obtained from any Medical Officer not below the rank of Civil Surgeon. Candidates who secured their degrees from Universities outside Kerala state should produce Migration Certificate from the respective University.. A student admitted to the post-graduate programme shall pay all fees as stipulated by the University and report in person to the Head of the Institution on the date of registration. The Head of the Institution will direct them to the Head of Department concerned. In absentia registration is not allowed. If the student admitted to the programme finds it difficult to register in the first semester on the due date prescribed, he/she may request in writing for extension of joining time to the Head of the Institution through the Head of Department on or before the last date of registration. Such cases may be sanctioned by the Head of Institution and reported to the Director (Acad. and Res.). The extension of joining time (which will not be counted towards the minimum time limit) shall not go beyond one semester under any circumstances. Candidate who avail the benefit of temporary discontinuance/extension for joining time during the first semester after admission and temporary discontinuation in the second semester shall be permitted to register in the subsequent semester. A special caution deposit of Rs. 25000/ will be charged at the time of granting extension of joining time/discontinuance which will be returned to the student on rejoining the course. For SC/ST students the special caution deposit will be Rs. 10,000/-. The candidates who have secured assistantship are not eligible for temporary discontinuation. In cases of discontinuation of any nature the candidates are liable to refund the amount realised as assistantship as per Government of Kerala recovery rules. In exceptional cases the Vice Chancellor is competent to waive the refund on the recommendation of the Head of the Institution.

P a g e 12 Candidate who discontinues the programme permanently has to remit the actual amount spent by the KVASU, for the student as liquidation damage subject to a minimum of Rs. One lakh. The chairperson of the advisory committee shall work out the amount and intimate the same to the Head of the Institution. If the amount so worked out exceeds Rs. One lakh, the excess amount shall also be remitted. If the discontinuation is in pursuit of a higher career opportunity and in overall public interest, the Vice Chancellor of KVASU is competent to waive the damages on the recommendation of the Head of the Institution. FEES The fees furnished below are liable to be modified by executive order of the University and admitted students shall follow it. A special caution deposit of Rs.2500 is to be paid at the time of admission in the case of candidates from outside the State/Foreign country. This will be refunded when he/she leaves the University after completion of the course. All the post graduate students should also subscribe to Parents Teachers Association. EXEMPTION FROM PAYMENT OF FEES Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates will be given exemption from payment of fees subject to the grant of concession by the Scheduled Caste Development Department, Government of Kerala. However, they will have to pay various caution deposits. They should also submit applications for concession in the prescribed form. No exemption from payment of fees will be granted to candidates who are likely to be eligible for any other type of fee concession. But the fees paid by them will be reimbursed if and when the concessions are sanctioned. No relaxation with regard to payment of fees will be allowed in the case of employees on deputation/study leave or those who are holders of I.C.A.R. Fellowships. They shall have to remit fees on the due dates prescribed and make their own arrangements to get the same reimbursed from the respective authorities. The Hon ble High Court of Kerala will be the only judicial body to decide on the disputes arising if any, in the matter of admission. The prospectus is subject to further modification/addition as may be considered necessary by the University and will be issued as executive orders/ notifications and the students are liable to obey the rules and regulations so amended or modified. 19. P a g e 14 Guidelines for Residency programme University introduces M.Tech. cum Residency programme from the Academic year onwards. Guidelines and general rules with regard to resident programme are furnished hereunder Duration : Three years( six semesters) During the first four semesters, the student can register 35 credits of course. (Jr. Residency). Maximum credit load per semester shall not exceed 10 excluding non-credited courses. During the 5 th and 6 th semester the student can register 10 credits or research. (Sr. Residency). Sr. Residency can be extended to 4 th and 5 th year based on the recommendation from the Head of Dairy Plant and Dean concerned and approval from KVASU. Under no circumstances the student is allowed to continue residency Programme beyond 5 th year. System of Education The semester system shall be followed. The course work will be done during the first two semesters and research during Sr. Residency (Third to Sixth Semester). Credit Requirement Course work - 35 Major - 20 Minor and supporting - 14 Seminar - 1 Noncredit compulsory - 6 Total course work - 41 Research work - 20 Grand total - 61 Payment The students will be paid fellowship at the following consolidated rates. They will not be eligible for any other allowances. First year (1 st and 2 nd semester) Rs. 20,000/- per month. Second year (3 rd and 4 th semester) Rs. 25,000/-per month. Third year( 5 th and 6 th semester) Rs. 30,000/-per month. Fourth year Rs. 35,000/-per month. Fifth year (Optional) Rs 40,000/- per month

P a g e 15 On successful completion of the course work and comprehensive examination, they can join for the senior residency programme. The selected candidates need pay of Rs.1/-(rupees one only) as tuition fee.but they need not pay any of the university fees. Duties of the Resident student General rules a) The student has to work in the Dairy plant on all working days (minimum 5hrs/day) as per roster published by the Head, Dairy Plant. Attendance on holiday dates shall be compensated with suitable compensation leave following KVASU rules throughout the residency Programme. b) The student is also bound to assist in the undergraduate practical classes in the various disciplines of Dairy Science and Technology as well as in the concerned parent department as decided by the Head of the Department/ Plant/ Major advisor c) A minimum of two hour theory class/week in their discipline) in addition to the practical class assistance in the various departments are to be handled by the student. d) The student s under this scheme are expected for round the clock duty in the Dairy plant required. e) The student has to submit the synopsis of research work at the end of 2 nd semester. f) The student has to complete the complete the comprehensive viva before the end of 3 rd semester and must be qualified to conduct the research work during Sr. Residency. g) The candidate has to submit a report of work done in addition to his/her curricular activities every month. Satisfactory report from the Major advisor/head of Plant along with the report of work from the candidate has to be forwarded to Dean with a copy marked to DAR every month before release of fellowship. h) The selected students under this scheme have to execute an agreement or bond for an amount equivalent spent by KVASU till date of discontinuance of the course, if any as liquidation charge. a) The selected candidates will be under the administrative control of the Head of the Dairy Plant b) Courses and research problems shall be selected by the candidate in consultation with Major advisor based on the subject in which, the student is admitted.

P a g e 16 c) Either the Head of the Plant or any of other nominated senior staff member of Dairy Plant shall be a member of the advisory committee of all students admitted under this scheme d) Major guide of the student shall be from the Department of Dairy Technology/Allied Departments such as Dairy Chemistry/Dairy Engineering/Dairy Microbiology. Formation of advisory committee shall be in accordance with the KVASU Academic rules. e) Candidates will have to attend the duties of Dairy plant on all days during the senior residency period as per the direction of the Head of the Dairy Plant. f) On successful completion of the 3 rd year Programme, apart from the certificate for Masters Degree, a work experience Certificate for 2 year senior residency Programme shall also be issued. g) The students under this scheme shall not be eligible for any other scholarship/fellowship/assistantship. h) In case, if the student is discontinuing the course in between, the candidate has to remit back full expenditure incurred to the student by KVASU. A bond has to be executed at the time of admission safeguarding the interest of KVASU as well as the student. i) Accommodation shall be provided free of cost to the student in the hostel. j) Professional accident indemnity provision shall be extended to the resident student. k) The common courses/ compulsory courses may be offered so as not to interfere with the plant duties of the students. l) For all other practical purpose the student shall follow the rules as in the case of general category students. m) Upon successful completion of the residency, he/she can give an option for registering PhD Programme without undergoing admission process
