Our Lady s Catholic Primary School Newsletter 17th February 2017 PRAYER FOR THE WEEK. Dear Parents/Carers On Tuesday Years 3 and 4 delivered a wonderful assembly about their recent topic on China. The children spoke, sang and acted with confidence and enthusiasm. They shared so many interesting facts, memorising their information with amazing accuracy and enjoyment. It was lovely to see so many parents and friends attend and then take the time to stay for tea and biscuits. Thursday saw great excitement in Reception class when they had a Pirate Party Day. The children dressed up as pirates, as did Mrs Elmes and Miss Hemming, and did all sorts of activities linked to their topic. The day started with parents having tea and cake in the hall and then going to join their children in the classroom for a Stay and Play session where they happily got involved in all that was going on. A great time was had by all so luckily no one had to walk the plank! It has been a very exciting week for Reception as they also visited the library on Wednesday afternoon, where they listened to Kitchen Disco read by the book s author Clare Fogues. The children had a lovely time, not letting the terrible weather spoil the outing. In true pirate fashion they rallied their allies and weathered the storm, arriving safely back on dry land! Actually there was great excitement all around Our Lady s on Thursday as there was not only non uniform but also a cake sale. Once again your generosity ensured that the School Council s idea to raise money towards the cost of Mrs Lloyd s prayer garden was a great success, raising 160. We had some very heartening news from two parents last week who had mentioned the project to the manager of the company where one of them works. He then generously offered to supply any of their stock items whenever we are ready to go ahead. This will be a great help and keep the cost down. We just need to get our design ideas firmed up and hopefully enlist a team of volunteers to help create this special place. Even more money has been raised today as the cake sale continued. We are now up to the grand total of 240. Your kind donations are much appreciated and will be put to good use in the very near future. Once again if anyone would be interested in helping design the garden please get in touch. Please pray for James Lloyd and his family as next week will be the first anniversary of Adele s death. May she rest in peace.. Confirmation Wednesday 5 th July. Please pray for the Confimandi as they prepare to receive this PlPeasePppppp special pppleaseppppp sacrament. Have a relaxing half term. Spring is in the air! Mrs Unitt
Learning this week!... What a way to end Spring half term! This week year 3 and 4 performed their Assembly to the school and their families. They spoke clearly, looked the part and had lots of fun sharing all of the things they have learnt about China and the Shang Dynasty. We were even interrupted by a dragon- Nian! They are also lucky to be celebrating Chinese New Year (a little bit late!) this afternoon with delicacies from China. They have worked so incredibly hard this half term and Mrs Hastie, Mrs Bruton and I, are so proud of them. Even though we have had an extremely busy week this week, we have still managed to squeeze in lots of valuable learning time! We have been doubling numbers, innovating story maps and writing sentences! We have been learning how to add as well. Here is Oliver s independent addition work. In Year 5 and 6 this week we have been doing some PSHE work around empathy. As a class we discussed what empathy is and how it is different from sympathy. We also considered the 5 steps you need to take in order to be empathetic. The class then produced one-act plays to demonstrate what they had learned, and how they could show empathy in real-life situations. We all made the decision to make an effort to be more empathetic, in order to support our friends and family. Year 1 & 2 created some wonderful works of art this week! We collected various classroom objects (lego, 3D shapes - even fruit!) and used it do our own 'Indian block printing'. Thank you to our parents for sending in the wonderful Indian props for our role play area and thank you for all the delicious Indian snacks we have enjoyed this half term!!

Thank you so much to everyone who came to our Pirate Party. It was so heart-warming to see everyone getting involved (some with costumes and props too!) with the activities, sharing their child s learning journey and just having fun! Thank you for the positive comments and feedback about your morning, I am thrilled you all had such a wonderful time. Here are just a few of the photos from the morning
Despite the rain on Wednesday afternoon, the children in Reception thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Alcester Library! We listened to Kitchen Disco, a story written by Clare Fogues and had the chance to explore the library and read some books.
