Accessing the Blackboard Vista Gradebook and Manually Changing Grades Blackboard Vista includes a fully interactivee Gradebook tool that allows you to track the performance of your students within your course. The Gradebook is a central location within Blackboard that contains all of the student grades from every assignment, assessment, and various other tools that are part of Blackboard Vista. In the Gradebook, you can view and edit student grades and calculate course grades for your students to use. Please see the instructions below to access the Gradebook and manually edit student grades. 1. Click on the Teach tab inside Blackboard Vista. 2. Once inside the Teach tab, look for the Instructor Tools menu on the left side of the screen and click on the Gradebook option. 1
3. The Gradebook screen will show the names of each student and the name of each gradedd Assignment, Assessment, Discussion Board, etc. contained within your course. The Student Name is comprised of the Last Name and First Name columns in the Gradebook. Each column with the exception of columns containing identification information such as First Name represents a gradable tool such as an Assignment or Assessment. The column will show the name of the tool and the type of tool that it represents. A numeric grade will be located in cells in a column. assigned for student performance. In the Blackboard Gradebook, there are multiple ways to edit grade values depending on the circumstance. It might become necessary to alter grades for an entire column or all grades for a specific individual. The Blackboard Gradebook has the flexibility to alter grades using a variety of methods that are detailed below. 2
Updating Individual Grades 1. To change a single value, locate the column that has the grade value you need to change and click on it. 2. A new window will appear. Click on the Change To option and then enter the new value into the field directly to the right of Change To. In the example below, the score is being changed to 3. In the Comment field, type the reason for changing the grade for audit purposes. 3. Click on the Save button. 3
4. Notice that the grade has been updated with a value of ^3. The ^ symbol means that the grade has been manually updated. Updating Grades by Column 1. Locate the column with the values that need to be changed. Click on the ( ) symbol in the column that will be edited and then click the Edit Values option. 4
2. A new window will appear displaying the names of all the students in your course with the current grade values for the column you have chosen to edit. In the Change to column, type a new grade value for each student. In this example, the Demo Student grade value was changed from a 3 to a 4 whichh is circled in red below. In the Comment field, be sure to explain why you changed the grade. 3. Click on the Save button 4. Notice that the grades have been successfully updated. 5
Updating Grades by Individual Student 1. In the Gradebook, find the student that needs a grade change. Click on the ( student name and select the Edit Member menu option. ) next to the 2. The Edit Member screen will appear and display the name of the student you originally clicked on. Locate the grade that needs to be changed and type the new grade into the Change to field. Look at the image below to see an example. In the Comment field, type the reason for changing the grade in case your course is audited. 3. Click on the Save button. 6
4. The individual student s new grades will appear in the Gradebook. Look at the image below to see the updated grade values. 7
