The example of this project is used in the three grades to match the science/math standards such as gravity, life science etc. The board thanked the teacher and students for the demonstration. John Pringle, Aquatic Manager and BJ Kuntz, Athletic Director gave the following timeline to the board. Discussion points: Goals with the PE department Work with committee and community & Parks Board Use of facilities, much use is already in place Identify core issues in the community Who can we depend on to help educate the community. Main theme is to teach our community to swim and water safety as well, taking into consideration how many rivers and lakes there are in our area. Ideas to reintroduce Bruce Campbell s program to test and teach middle school students to swim using our high school pool. This is a problem across all cultural groups, nonswimmers Funding, grants other outside resources are available Programs to examine and teach swimming, like YMCA & City Parks department. Educating adults to the enormity of the problem What are goals, important to have access for youth to get everyone involved. Train all players to help, make a real effort countywide. Learning to swim is only part of the problem, water safety is another whole piece of the picture. Booth at Apple Blossom, annual event to focus on in our community. Page 5 of 7

Survey at the high school level - who knows how to swim etc. National curriculum to teach teachers how to teach swimming and evaluate the swimmer American Swim Coach Association Identify the future of the program and make a Vision for our community Have in place by end of January Money is not a factor when it comes to the safety of our children Logistics of Bruce Campbell s program The Bond Committee needs to support this issue There is a broad base of support for this issue The board thanked the committee for the update and showed enthusiastic support.
