Act No. 24 of 2016) ADMISSION PROCEDURE A.Y. 2019-20 Bachelor of Arts (Journalism & Mass Communication) in English and Hindi INTRODUCTION: The Times of India Group is India s largest and oldest media entity, with a 180-years legacy of trust, knowledge and public service. Driven by the larger aim of enhancing India s higher education infrastructure, and building on our rich legacy, the Group has set up Bennett University, in Greater Noida. The University will provide its students a premium learning experience supported by research-driven faculty and a well-rounded industry-centric curriculum, preparing them to compete and prosper in a rapidly transforming world. The University has been established under the Bennett University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh Act, 2016 (U.P. Act No. 24 of 2016). The same has been gazette notified by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Vide No 1042/79-V-1-16-1(Ka) 25-2016 Dated 16 Sep 2016. It admitted its first batch of students in B.Tech., MBA and Ph.D. programs in 2016. Bennett University is located in Greater Noida, less than an hour s drive from South Delhi. Designed by the renowned Singapore-based RSP Architects, Bennett University s sprawling campus is visualized as a modern, user-centric, functional space, enabling an immersive and comprehensive learning experience. Industry-Centric Curriculum Entrepreneurial Thinking Life and Career Ready Students WHY BA (JOURNALISM & MASS COMMUNICATION) AT BENNETT: Times School of Media s programs are developed in conjunction with the Times Group, India s largest media conglomerate. The objective is to prepare students to excel both in traditional media as well as the new and emerging forms of media. The School s programs place special emphasis on academic rigour and on imparting skills required to succeed in today s highly 1

competitive, and rapidly changing, media environment. The BA(JMC) is a skill-based, industryrelevant, and research-led program geared to produce the next generation of media professionals. Students learn in a simulated environment to produce newspapers, create radio broadcasts, prepare TV news bulletins, run public relations campaigns, make video films, set up blogs, and work on social media platforms, under philosophy of - Be ready to challenge and be challenged- in new ways of thinking and expression. Gaining skill-based media education, students will become ready to work across industries, government organizations, and media houses in roles involving print journalism, television, radio, digital content management, social media, advertising, public relations, event management, communication, film studies, and digital photography. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Please carefully note the following before filling the application form/applying on line: 1. Qualifying Examination for Admission: A candidate appearing/qualified in any one of the examination may apply: Program (3 Years) Admission Based on 10+2 marks percentage * SAT Examination BA (Journalism & Mass Communication) Yes Yes *(Aggregate % shall be calculated based on five subjects as specified at Annexure-1 and including the compulsory subjects as per program opted, duly normalized for state boards by Bennett University). 2. Total Number of Seats (Approved Intake) ## - (i) BA (Journalism & Mass Communication (English) - 180 (ii) BA (Journalism & Mass Communication (Hindi) - 60 ## includes SC/ST, General category and 2 seats for Kashmiri Migrants; Additional 15% supernumerary seats are available for NRI/International category students. 3. Merely filling an application form does not entitle a candidate for admission. The admission is purely merit based. The University reserves the right to cancel/revoke its offer and/or acceptance of provisional admission at any point in time 4. No refund of application fee is allowed under any circumstances whatsoever. 5. Candidate cannot claim the seat, merely because it is available. University Admission Committee shall decide the cut offs for merit, in the program and same shall be final. 6. Candidate must fulfill all the eligibility criteria as laid down in succeeding paragraphs, if he/she wishes to be considered for admission. 7. Non- submission of Marks of 10+2 or equivalent examination and/or SAT Score, to the University, before last date of application shall debar a candidate from being considered for merit. 8. All candidates shall be communicated guidelines, results and other details including offer letters through e-mail. Candidates are advised to check their SPAM or JUNK folder regularly and white-list the email id: admissions@bennett.edu.in Please note that this is the only official mail ID of the University, for all communications related to admissions. Communications received from other mail IDs, may be advisory in nature, but cannot be quoted as official position of the University, specially w.r.t marks, eligibility, Merit and offers. 2

9. NRI/ International Category candidates (as defined in document below) having taken qualifying exams from boards abroad, shall be considered provided they fulfill other eligibility criteria. 10. Merit Scholarships are available in all programs, details of which are available on the University web site and shall also be provided in admission offer letters. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 1. Criteria of minimum Educational Qualification and Year of Passing. The candidate must obtain minimum of 40% aggregate marks in 10+2 or equivalent examination in any discipline (aggregate % shall be calculated based on 5 subjects selected only from the list as at Annexure-1, including compulsory subjects of English/Hindi as per opted program). Compulsory Subjects in 12 th Examinations (i) BA (Journalism & Mass Communication (English) - English Language (ii) BA (Journalism & Mass Communication (Hindi) - Hindi Language (iii) The candidates may be required to appear for a language proficiency test (English or Hindi as per the program selected); if the University decides to conduct this same. The format, and schedule will be announced well in advance but not later than 31 May 2019.The marks obtained in the language examination, may be considered for the overall merit. (c) The 10+2 examination must be passed in 2018 or 2019. (d) (e) (f) Candidates who are offered provisional admission based on declared scores in the application and/or marks in language proficiency test, will be required to produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination i.e. (10+2 or equivalent) to the University authorities, during document inspection at the time of registration (tentative - 3 rd week of July), failing which, such provisional admission will stand withdrawn. It shall be responsibility of the candidates to bring out variations in the scores/marks recorded in the admission offer letter and actual marks obtained in qualifying/eligibility examination, before accepting the offer. Any deviations detected even at a later stage after registration, shall render the offer of admission or admission itself, as invalid. If the results of 10+2 examinations are likely to be delayed beyond the date of registration (tentatively - 3 rd week of July), such candidates are advised to seek admission next year. No representations for extension of dates for verification of documents shall be entertained. Any wrong declaration of marks/scores in the application, which affects the merit/provide undue advantage, if detected even after registration, shall lead to disqualification of the candidate and withdrawal of admission or scholarship, as the case may be. 2. Criteria for Date of Birth Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 01 October 1999 (Date of Birth as recorded in the High School/Secondary Education Board/University Certificate only will be taken as authentic) are only eligible to apply for admission. 3

3. Eligibility conditions for IB/Cambridge qualified Candidates. (All candidates shall be required to obtain the 10+2 equivalence certificate from AIU before 14 Aug 2019). Failure to do so may lead to cancellation of admission. For IB Board (i) Student should have secured a minimum of 26 points/credits. (ii) Student should have passed minimum of three subjects at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). (iii) Should have completed DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay(ee). (iv) Should have passed English/Hindi at Higher Level (HL) out of 3 HL subjects as per (ii) above. (v) Students provided provisional admission based on predicted scores received from counsellors, shall be allowed to register only after providing regular Diploma mark sheet. For Cambridge International Examinations (IGCSE) (i) Percentage Uniform Marks shall be allotted equal weightage as 10+2 from CBSE. (ii) Candidates should obtain 40% aggregate in five subjects (including compulsory language, English/Hindi as applicable to the program) as required to obtain IGCSE 12 th equivalent certificate. (iii) Candidates should have passed minimum five subjects at O level including English, and minimum 2 subjects at A level. This is a mandatory requirement to obtain equivalence certificate from AIU. (iv) Should have passed English or Hindi at A level out of minimum 2 subjects as per (iii) above. 4. Eligibility conditions to be eligible for admission under NRI/International Category: NRI/PIO/OCI: (i) PIO (Person of Indian Origin). A person who or whose any of ancestors were Indian national and who is presently holding another country s citizenship/ nationality i.e. he/she is holding foreign passport. (ii) OCI (Overseas Citizen of India). A person registered as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder under section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955. (iii) NRI shall be a student, whose mother or father, first degree relation including the real brother and sister or grandparents both paternal and maternal are NRIs. (iv) This quota may also be availed by wards of NRI persons, who should be the nearest relation to include real brother and sister of father and mother i.e. real uncle and real aunt, first degree-paternal and maternal cousins. However, such persons, who have looked after such student as the guardian, need to produce an evidence to the effect, along with an affidavit signed by authorities in country where such person is residing. (v) NRI, in this context shall imply An Indian citizen who is ordinarily residing outside India and holds an Indian Passport. (vi) Students having done their 10+2 from foreign Boards and falling under categories (i) to (v) above shall be treated under NRI category admission. 4

International Student: All students who are foreign country pass port holders and have passed their 10+2 exams from a foreign board. 5. Routes to Admission: Candidates who fulfill the eligibility as above, shall be required to have one of the following routes for admissions, which are explained subsequently, in the document: (c) 10+2 or equivalent level Examination in any stream SAT Examination In addition The candidates may be required to appear for a language proficiency test (English or Hindi as per the program selected); if the University decides to conduct this same. The format, and schedule will be announced well in advance but not later than 31 May 2019.The marks obtained in the language examination, may be considered for the overall merit. 6. General Instructions on conditions of Eligibility: Candidates must produce certificate of proof of the above conditions at the time of registration (3 rd week of July 2019) for the respective program failing which, they will be disqualified, and provisional admission shall be cancelled. Admission granted, and scholarship offered to student may be revoked for noncompliance/not meeting the admission criteria/ being found ineligible, even if same is detected at a later date. All admissions will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/ documents of the candidates. The decision of the Admission Committee of the University regarding the eligibility of any applicant shall be final. APPLICATION PROCESS: 1. How to obtain and Fill the Application Form: The students may fill the application forms on line using net banking/credit/debit card at https://applications.bennett.edu.in. 2. There is no separate on-line application form for the NRI/International student s. However, students shall be provided an option to be considered under NRI category and which shall then lead to downloading of a sponsorship letter, which must be filled and sent to the University, to enable application being considered. 2. Cost of Form: Rs 1000/-(can be paid online or through Demand Draft) 3. Where to send. The completed Application Form, (only when hard copy purchased), must be sent to the following address: Admission Section - BA(J&MC) Bennett University Office, Plot No s 8-11, Tech Zone II, Near Dabra Village. Greater Noida- 201310, Uttar Pradesh, India. 4. Important to note before submission of Application Form. The candidates must go through and undertake the important terms and condition available at start of on line application form and ensure to read the admission 5

(c) (d) (e) procedure document carefully, as updated from time to time on the University s website before applying for admission. Application Status: Candidates applying shall receive a unique Application No. and an e-mail acknowledging the receipt, along with further guidelines. Candidates shall receive few reminder mails, if required, and thus must view the mails from the University and comply with guidelines. Candidates are also advised to keep a downloaded copy of Application Form. All issues regarding application form, marks or data filled there in, must be resolved by the candidate with admission section of the University, before declaration of merit. No appeals thereafter are acceptable. Photocopies of 10 th /12th standard mark sheets along with SAT score card as applicable, (if results have been announced) must be uploaded on the online form or while filling the marks and before submission of application PROCESS FOR ADMISSION: Submission of Application/Registration of candidature. Registration of candidature implies filling online application, providing the marks/scores and uploading of mark sheets as required: The candidate may fill the application form without waiting for the results of 10+2 examination, IB/IGCSE board results or SAT results. IB students, who fulfill the required eligibility criteria, may also fill the form of the University, based on predicted scores (provided by counselor only, directly to University at email ID admissions@bennett.edu.in referring to program and application number). (c) It is essential for the candidate to provide the marks of examinations as given at above, immediately, after declaration of results. The marks may be (i) filled online or (ii) candidate may provide score cards to the admission office before the date mentioned in table below. Non- Compliance shall be at candidate s risk and no claim can be made for consideration for merit. (d) Candidate must fill all mandatory details and submit the final application, before being considered for merit. (e) Further, the candidate has to produce the mark sheet of all relevant exams based on which provisional offer is made at the time of document verification during registration process (tentative - 3 rd week of July2019). (f) Candidate may be required to appear in the language proficiency test, if conducted by Bennett University, as per clause 1 (iii) above MERIT LIST AND ADMISSION OFFERS/ALLOCATION OF SEATS: 1. Eligibility for Merit - Candidates shall be considered for meriting process, only after they meet all of the following criteria: (c) (d) (e) Those who apply in the prescribed application form / apply online. Those whose applications are found valid. The applications are received before the due date. Those who fulfill the eligibility criteria, including performance in the language proficiency test, if conducted by the University. Where the applicants provide the required scores before the last date of application. 6

Drawing the Merit Lists and Admission Offers (General Category) (c) (d) (e) The merit amongst valid applications received shall be drawn based on the total marks obtained by candidate with due weightage to language proficiency test (if taken) and other qualifying examination like 10+2 or SAT. The merit list for SC/ST candidates and those belonging to the state of J&K (2 seats are reserved for Kashmiri migrants) subject to eligibility, shall be made by applying the cut off 10% below the merited marks as per above, obtained by the candidate, short listed in the unreserved category. The wards of Defense Personnel will get a 2% relaxation in merit criteria than that followed for other candidates. Differently abled candidates shall get a 2% relaxation in merit criteria than that followed for other candidates on a case to case basis. More than one list may be announced, as required as per schedule in table below. (f) Candidate cannot claim the seat, merely because it is available, in case he/she does not meet the minimum cut off marks decided by the University Admission Committee for this category of seats. 3. Drawing of Merit Lists- IB candidates. IB candidates, who may take SAT Examinations, shall be merited as per procedure explained above. Those candidates, who have not taken SAT examination; the merit shall be drawn based on IB points, subject to minimum of 26 Points, completing other diploma requirements and performance in language proficiency test (if taken). 4. NRI/ International Category. (c) Candidates wishing to take admission under this category must meet the definition as given above. The candidates opting for this mode of admission are also required to provide sponsorship letter and equivalence certificate of marks from foreign board, from AIU. The candidates opting for this mode of admission may also be required to undertake the language proficiency as per clause 1(iii) above. (d) The merit amongst valid applications received shall be drawn based on the total marks obtained by candidate in qualifying examination like 10+2 or SAT with due weightage to language proficiency test (if taken). 5. Official Communication of Merit and Information about Seat Allotment and Fee payment. (c) All candidates shall be communicated guidelines, results other details including offer letters through e-mail. Candidates are advised to check their SPAM or JUNK folder regularly and white-list the email id: admissions@bennett.edu.in. Please note that this is the only official mail IDs of the University for all communications. It is responsibility of the candidate to monitor the mails for the admission offers, as per general schedule /important dates announced, to know about their admission offers, fee payment schedule and guidelines and instructions etc. Ignorance of schedule or not checking the details in time shall not be accepted as an excuse to attend or claim for admission at a later date. 7

(iii) The Choice once exercised shall generally be treated as final. Given the rigor of the programs including class room work, it is recommended that all students avail of the hostel facilities. However, University shall allow day scholars.
