Although I spent a good deal of time during two different class periods discussing this assignment, as well as providing written more detailed guidelines than past semesters AND modeling a museum report, I will remind all students that the Writing and Reading Center exists for their benefit. And I will inquire with the Center about the possibility of one of their staff members coming to one of our class meetings to talk about writing and research. I feel that this assignment is very successful. No changes will be made to it and I will move on to the next SLO. Although I spent a good deal of time during two different class periods discussing this assignment, as well as providing written guidelines for the report, I plan in the future to further refine the written instructions AND to provide the students with a model museum report. I will also remind students that I am available to discuss their museum reports BEFORE they turn them in. During this semester, very few students have taken advantage of my available (and flexible) office hours. As described above, I provided more guidance this semester in relation to the museum report. In future semesters I will continue to spend more class time modeling the museum report although I have decided against handing out a sample model report. I will use the examinations to evaluate the increased interaction among the students and the effects of increasing the number and complexity of the practice examinations. 2. If the results are not sufficiently increased, more interaction and daily practice quizzes will be inaugurated. Students achieved an acceptable rate. However, I would like to see even better results. I intend to build more reviews into curriculum to better prepare students for quizzes. ART G103 cslo 3 I will mostly continue doing things in a similar fashion. This semester I started offering 4

Only five students have taken me up on the extra credit assignment, so I will explore ways to make it more appealing. I will mostly continue doing things in a similar fashion. However, I would like to try to find a way to allow my students to have access to the images that we discuss in class. Some of them are in their textbook but many are not. As I use the ARTSTOR database to show images and there is no way to allow students to access that database unless the College has a subscription, I will continue to consider other possible ways to provide them access. 1. I will use the examinations to evaluate the increased interaction among the students and the effects of increasing the number and complexity of the practice examinations. 2. If the results are not sufficiently increased, more interaction and daily practice quizzes will be inaugurated. In the future I will stress the importance of completing all work and/or assign a higher point value to the assignment to encourage students to submit all required work. For those students who failed the assignment, or achieved a lower grade, I will also more deeply emphasize the connection between artist biography/context and how they manifest in the art of the time. 1. The methods of my teaching are apparent in the outcome of the students. I am not planning any changes except for the students that struggle with English will be referred to the appropriate office to get help or tutoring. There is an on-going evaluation of all projects by the instructor: Can the project be improved to generate a higher level of involvement and competency from the students? How can individual instruction be given equally to all levels of competency from the most talented to those who are struggling? How prepared are students at the end of the class to apply the principles learned to other areas? (From transferring to a 4-year school to application of design concepts to other areas of study.) I was unhappy with the work produced this semester by a number of students. Less talented students appeared to struggle with more open-ended projects (with greater creative opportunities) while the more talented thrived. It is my intention to tweak those projects next semester, to produce positive results from students with all levels of competency yet it is essential that all members are prepared to display skills needed to transfer to the requirements of a 4-year school. This is a very successful assignment; however it was brand new as of this semester, which provided some difficulties and a little confusion at times. I am hoping that the next time that it is taught, a higher ratio of students will gain competency with greater ease due to having student examples to aid in comprehension of the assignment and a reworded project handout. In future classes I plan to integrate additional arts vocabulary within the various projects. This will even further expose the student to more in-depth arts concepts and communication skills. I am satisfied that the students are capable of identifying the different lettering families and the major characteristics of each family. I will continue to use this method to facilitate the learning outcome. As a pre---cursor to the assignment, I will also be implementing student groups/team interaction in a game---like presentation to help them memorize more of the lettering families. I will continue to use this method to facilitate the learning outcome and move on to assess another SLO for the following semester. And to reiterate the lessons taught throughout the semester. Also, the introduction of films that feature contemporary artists who use the same or similar methods that are taught during the semester Though the students achieved success at an acceptable rate, I am still trying to improve the ease with which they understand and implement drawing concepts. In order to facilitate learning about placement and measurement, I recently created a simple exercise that is based off of a very tried and true method of drawing using a grid. I created a handout with an image of a pitcher with a grid over it. The students use this to draw the same image on their drawing paper at a larger scale. I have students complete this exercise before they are instructed about drawing from an actual still life. It has proven to be an effective, introductory tool in helping students understand the concept of placement and measurement. The percentage of students left out of the assignment is unacceptable. In the future, I will develop a way for students to ride share and encourage them to view the assignment as a group activity. I can make sure every student in class has transportation to their museum.
