Countesthorpe Leysland Community College PROSPECTUS

college A community A

We exist for one reason: to help the children in our community become independent, capable, resilient young people, ready for life and work. Children go through a lot during their time at school. We build confidence in those early years and lay firm foundations for the rest of their education. As they make their way through school, they need room to grow and develop as individuals. By the end of their time with us, you will be proud of who they ve become. Our standards are high and so are our expectations. We monitor progress closely and reward success. We unearth talents and foster abilities. And all our students have access to facilities and opportunities that match their ambitions and open their eyes. Any school can talk about wanting its students to be the best they can be. It s what happens that matters. Many of our students go to university, including Oxford and Cambridge. Some have opened their own businesses; others have earned scholarships to study abroad or gone on to become award-winning actors and musicians. This is all easy to say. So once you ve read through this prospectus, come and visit. It s the best way to feel what Countesthorpe Leysland Community College is all about. You just might find something that surprises you.

Sharpening minds Broadening horizons

Making it happen Countesthorpe Leysland Community College is much more than a curriculum. We understand the importance of laying the foundations on which children can build a successful future skills and abilities valued by employers and universities such as collaboration, resilience, creativity and problem solving. All our students get the individual support and encouragement to understand what is possible in life and what they have to offer. We open eyes and minds. The world is changing, and we help our students become capable and well-rounded individuals who can make a real contribution.

Well educated Well rounded

Well prepared A preparation for life We are clear about what we want for every student who walks through our doors: young people growing and developing with the help of our personal approach, the high expectations we set and our enviable facilities. These facilities are available to everyone, because we are a community college.

Support that s a perfect fit

Doing the right thing You have seen a little of what we do to get the best for your child: support, opportunities, setting high standards and rigorously following through on our plans. We are committed to success and achievement, but we don t do it alone. We are clear what we expect from students, and they are clear what they can expect from us. Education is a partnership, and a vital part of that partnership is parents. We will make sure you know exactly what is happening with your child, and we ll work closely with you. Partnerships start with a conversation, and this prospectus is our invitation to you to come and see us. We re looking forward to meeting you.

Our Sixth Form community

Choosing where to study for A Levels is a big decision. These are the important questions to ask: How strong is the academic focus? Our results speak for themselves. Excellence is our watchword. How much support will I get for university applications, careers options, student finance and the rest? Your support package is tailored to you. We are particularly good at supporting applications to the Russell Group of leading universities, and we run a series of workshops and fairs covering all the important areas of the next stage in your education and career. What does it feel like here, and will I be treated like an adult? Our Sixth Form is the perfect size to maintain a broad range of subjects and still be personal enough for everyone to be known individually. There are plenty of opportunities to take on responsibilities that benefit the whole school. What goes on outside studying (as there s more to life than just results)? Employers and universities are looking for rounded individuals with experience of the world. Our programme includes international expeditions, volunteering opportunities and the chance to develop new skills outside the classroom.
